Cause the way Steve has that stun lock on hit, and how light Sonic is, I needed to basically play extremely careful on my timings and try to mix up my use of air moves due to that stupid magma cube blocking the approach for a lot of easy hit moves like homing attack.

It's ironic how Steve started as a joke, but it was kinda shocking when he actually gets in. He's really faithful to Minecraft's base game too, unleashing all the creativity the player can do with placing blocks and making traps with TNT and anvil. Then by the end of Smash Ultimate's development, people hated him since well, kinda not fun when his gameplan involves hiding in safety behind walls as he mines and with one of the best edgeguard abilities in the game. Now with Phantom MLG discovered, he's just straight banned. No matchup knowledge or counterplay changes the fact Steve can simply deny combos and rather combo YOU instead.

@@EmperorPenguin1217 I think the main reason why the technique hasn't been seen much is, aside from being discovered about a month ago, Steve was pretty much immediately banned in most notable tournaments once PMLG came out. Either tournaments would try to ban and moderate the technique itself, which is an issue to try doing (like how to identify it, rewatching about every match to make certain, the punishment, and what if the accusation is false), or Steve's outright banned to not have to bother with the tactic in the first place.

Not including the new tech, he's got: Minecart: Busted A spike A kill throw Early kill-throw setups (block into backthrow spike off-stage) Major Gimping potential W/O BLOCKS Block-gimping, which completely ruins some match ups in Steve's favor Jump resets via blocks FUCKING BLOCKS IN GENERAL Anvil Lingering hitboxes due to blocks and crafting-bench Walking jabs and uptilts WHICH ARE SAFE Diamond: Fucking busted Good two frame moves like down-smash and down-tilt Insane recovery because of a combination of Up+B having a hitbox, resetting his jump, minecart and blocks Can't shark him cause of anvil and blocks *Edit: I forgot to mention his stupidly efficient combo game. Not too hard to input and you can get 50-70% ez on a stray, safe move. Stupid The combos are fun to watch, but really he's just unfair. I'm glad everyone finally pulled the trigger.

My honest opinion on Steve: I don't care about the broken tech or the janky mechanics or any of that. What I see is half of all the tournaments I view becoming Steve, and the other half is the rest of the roster. How to fix Steve in three easy steps: Step 1: Place Block is now Steve's side special. They can only place blocks on the ground or on blocks connected to the ground. Minecart is now the dash attack. Step 2: Steve needs gunpowder in order to use TNT. They now summon a creeper for their down smash which is the only way they can get gunpowder. Step 3: The crafting table requires Steve to have 4 blocks of wood and pressing shield and the special button to summon. Step 4: Don't let a Melee player ban the only black character.

@@EmperorPenguin1217 I have more ideas on how to fix Steve but: -The minecart would have a hitgrab hitbox, meaning it can be shielded like Isabelle's Fishing Rod. -I'd also change it so sand is a separate block and is also used in TNT, and the block itself would be bigger producing a larger explosion. High risk in getting the materials means high reward in a larger explosion. -You could still move the crafting table, you'd just press the special button while shielding in a different spot. All that changes is that Steve doesn't start off with it.

Making Steve only be able to place blocks on the ground would probably break him since not all platforms are at exact block level and blocks might not work because some stages have them SLIGHTLY off the ground, considering how much of a hassle they were to program already
