curious how these work in hotter/full outdoor environments compared to prior models. I had a prior model for my gate access to my east and west side yards and they fried after about 10 months here in Las Vegas. Not sure if they are IP rated for that environment with wet during that season or due to the temps that get into 115 range in summer.. curious to see if any testing done on that.

Question, I have a traditional door locks. Meaning it has the top bolt one for a key and the bottom know that opens the door and also needs a key....that means that i would have to leave "open" or unlocked the knob one in order to enter the house with these devices? Because if i lock BOTH locks, its only going to open one (bolt one) and use the key for the knob. ....

At random times this lock makes an alerting sound. Yale said we should press the "yale" button first, but still happens when the "yale" button is pressed before entering code. When the door makes this alerting noise the lock will only unlock manually. Which is frustrating me and family when simply leaving for 10 mins to walk the dog. Yales tells me dismantle the door, and unplug and plug in a white cord to reset the lock, but it still happens. Thank goodness more then one person is home when this happens, but I have to replace it as my wife, and my teenagers have no confidence in this lock that continues to lock them out of the house.

@chriskelvin248

If you get the WiFi model, there is a small sensor that you can install called Door Sense. You countersink it into the interior door jamb or stick it on the interior door molding adjacent to the lockset. With this connected to the Yale Access App, you can configure the device to send notifications if the door is open, closed, or left ajar.

You don’t need the Wi-Fi module for HomeKit. The locks bluetooth will connect to your home hub (Apple TV or HomePod) and give you access remotely. I can confirm this works as I’m currently using the Yale assure 2 with Apple home without the Wi-Fi module.

I have the original nest Yale lock and my two biggest issues are the fact that you cannot add a passcode for a single lock. So if you want to create a passcode for somebody they have access to your house, your garage, your utility room and so on, If you have more than one lock. That seems kind of ridiculous. But anyway. The other main issue is that I have five locks and one is on its own nest connect. This one lock repeatedly goes offline whenever the batteries run out or there's a power loss. In either scenario I must remove the lock and re-add the lock.

To make this device better I recommend: 1. Build two additional battery ports to put 2 more pairs of batteries that engage when previous set drains. 2. add an upward camera like the Ring device so you can see the instant anyone touches the device. 3. Put a protective slide up cover to protect against the weather if device placed outside 4. add a biometric feature so you can use your finger print to open as an option to the key pad

Giving out your main WiFi password is a bad security practice in general. That gives people too much control over your home network, and even if they’re not intentionally malicious, you never know if their devices might be infected with some kind of malware that could spread to other devices on your network. You should enable the guest network on your router and give guests the password for that. This only gives them internet access without being able to see any devices on your main network.

You're not wrong about that. But the point of this lockset is to add convenience and flexibility offered by remote electronics without necessarily making it easier to break in that one door. Not to make the house harder to break into.

Who the hell in their company came up with a red circle to represent a locked door?

Yea know... that's a great point. I want green to mean locked and secured.

Red means no entry or stop and green means go. I think they got it right if colour coded. They could have used open / closed to cut out any confusion

@mikejoseph425 They may have the correct colors, but there is no obvious relationship between a lock icon/photo and a red circle and/or a green / green broken donut circle. I am not even going to mention why they have two exactly Yale / August apps (besides just confusing users).

Every electronic lock I've ever seen, red means locked.

Red typically represents armed in terms of security so it seems right.

Having to press the pad to wake it is too time consuming, should be able to just press the buttons or have a finger print sensor. Also having to press the check button after code entry.

Yale also has an Assure 2 with physical buttons instead of a touch pad. As for the check button, i think that just adds to the security. Personally, i'm not a fan either.

@@SteveDOES Having to press the check at the end is a security feature. Without that people can determine if you require 4/6/8 digits. If you just enter 4 and it errored out without the check then people know your code is only 4. Which is less secure with fingerprints showing. We get around the fingerprint issue by having everyone in the house with different digits so their is prints on most numbers.

@@onac3079to be fair, that could easily be worked around. For example, let's say your code is 1243. A burglar walks up and and types 1234.. instead of erroring out, they could have designed the lock to go up to 9 numbers before failing. Now, the thief thinks the combination is 9 numbers long when in reality it's actually 4 and yet the max is 8. Also, you no longer need a check 🙂. Seems like basic programming to me.

I have a "cleaning 'guy' " Will it work for HIM, too? Other annoying things. "We've got our...We've got our...We've got our..." Don't know about you, but it seems like WE, is you and it's more than annoying to have you constantly refer to we and us... YOU have it, I don't! Also,,, get a script or an outline. You're repeating yourself which is obvious in some of the re-edits. Also annoying.
