Your recommendation prompted me to buy the XSY-AT1 inverter and the 1HP TEC motor. I couldn’t be more pleased it’s so quiet and smooth running it’s fantastic. The external control panel is going to be my next job. Great video Steve. Cheers. 👍. I’ll just add that this is on my Myford ML7.

The on off ticket maybe a little over engineered 😉. great post, any ideas what may cause the rotation to stop but run again after resetting safety stops, this can happen under load or running low revs with very light cuts after 30mins ish.

Hi Steve. Thanks for this video which is great timing for me. I am just putting my lathe back together having just changed the head-stock bearings for FAG angular contact bearings and replacing the plastic gears with metal ones. I didn't find anything actually wrong in the head-stock. Though I suspected a broken gear ,as it was so noisy, particularly in low gear. The plastic gears were pretty loose on the shafts and there was absolutely no lubricant whatsoever in the head-stock. I know in theory nylon gears do not need lubricant and nor do the sealed bearings, But I would have thought the selector fork assembly would have some grease on it. One of the original bearings they had painted over and it felt a bit crunchy, though the other bearing seems OK. I also drilled and tapped the holes in the head-stock that you showed in an earlier video for oiling the metal gears and of course replaced the grub screws on the change fork and lever. I should have the lathe all back together today. I have always intended to go the VFD 3 phase motor route with the lathe eventually, but there was little point doing it with the little clarke lathe that only uses 3" chucks, so decided to wait till I got my cj18a from amadeal. Been a bit to cold in the shed lately though so much has taken a back seat in my little workshop, looking forward to some warmer weather in the not to distant future. I always enjoy your videos Steve, I must admit to preferring your workshop projects to the product reviews. Though the reviews you do are are excellent also. Keep up the good work Steve.

Hi Stephen, It is always interesting when taking these lathes apart to see what one will find. You sound like you just get on with the job like I do when working on the mini lathe. I have found it too cold to go out in the workshop lately. I have been doing a few extra reviews lately whilst waiting for some warm weather. I have several machining and 'things to make' projects lined up, when it does warm up, which will be much more interesting. I actually like doing the machining and making videos best of all, so getting my lathe finished is a great start for the year. Regards Steve

Yes you have done well there Steve, great upgrade, I love it when a plan comes together. Did you know you can get a rubber grommet for the bottom of the control box where the feed screw goes through the box and that seems to keep out most of the swarf? Arc eurotrade sell those, (Arc Eurotrade are relatively local to me and they are always pretty helpful) they are quite cheap. Well the cj18a lives to tell the tale. I expected a bit of clatter from the metal gears, but mainly that is down to the change fork between the gears.However It is much quieter than it was. and the noises I can hear no longer worry me, as I know where they are coming from. Best Wishes Steve.

Steve, On the last shot of the control box it states that it is a 3 phase controller but in the description it states single phase Which is correct?I have a similar lathe and have been thinking about a suitable vfd / motor combination. What is the low rpm torque like? Mike
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael It is a 220v AC Single phase input to 220v Three phase output VFD. I find the low torque with my 1HP motor to be excellent and can use large drills. I have the same VFD and motor set-up on my Myford ML7 lathe, although on the Myford the VFD box housing is a different shape and color, with the same electronics.

Hi if it is the same VFD that I have you can't connect a single phase motor to it. You need a 3 phase motor. My VFD is single phase input. Three phase output.

To change the operation mode of the potmeter, just simply swap the wires of the COM and 10V/5V.😊 The same to do with the FWD/REV button.

@@SteveJordan Thank you for the reply. In your video, you use a latching or toggle type switch, I was wondering if you knew how to use 2 separate momentary type switches, one for Run and one for Stop. Upon further searching, I'm kind of thinking that this VFD can not use momentary switches to do this. Thanks, Jim
