Video Interpretation: It benefits you to face your fears. When you run away from them you fear death. Steve Lacy was afraid to ask the girl out so he ran away. He was running away from his fear, but running away from his fear ironically resulted in a much bigger fear - death. This death was symbolic indicated by the rose petals representing his blood. These rose petals were scattered over the car that hit him while he was trying to run away. The car was driver-less. This indicates that his death was self-inflicted. He was the only one to blame for his death. He was dressed in a fancy suit that he probably would have worn on the night out with the girl - also ironic. Moral of the story, face your fears or you fear death. Like his friend said in the beginning, "I don't think that her saying no is the worst case scenario. I think you're over thinking it." Steve Lacy was over thinking and it caused the worst case scenario to happen - a self inflicted death. A death of one's dreams, aspirations, and ultimately one's self.

This may just be a matter of inconsistent set pieces, but if not, I'm pretty sure that a large majority of the video is him imagining asking the girl to prom, and not actually doing it. In the beginning, when he leaves to go ask her out, he takes an acoustic brand amplifier, but when he goes to ask her the amp is now a fender. When he gets ran over the headlights on the car that hit him are different from the Cadillac that he sits on. As he imagines himself asking the girl time goes by, and before he knows it, prom in the form of a Cadillac comes crashing in, and he awakes with no girl and the song slowed and pitched down to give the sad vibes
