wow - I had a1972 Dart Swinger I drove to high school every day in the late 70's. i'll never forget it had a half rubber ball on the drivers floor to pump washer fluid to the windshield - no electric pump needed that could break. and it had a thin rubber ring inset into the steering wheel to press anywhere on the perimeter to beep the horn. real cool car.

Love the model car episodes. Keep them coming. Maybe one on one of your custom AWB that pose but any will do!!!

My first car was a '70 Swinger. Gold with a white top and tan interior. In '84 it cost $550 and looked like it was new. A slant six auto with an AM radio and oddly, a Tuff Wheel, and power steering. I built a replica of it using a resin body. An AMT '71 340 Duster gave up its chassis, an AMT '68 Road Runner interior was modified and narrowed to fit, and the engine was sourced from a Lindberg '54 Dodge 330. I have two glass store displays and three china hutches filled with built models and probably 150 unbuilt, but that Dart sits in a special place, all by itself.

In the 80s I was collecting dealer promos. Pre interweb, you'd mail off to dealers for their list, and the early ones always had the note of "usual warp" or "unusual warp". I might still have a couple of those lists

I have a 1965 dodge dart 270 it’s got a 225 slant six torque flight auto it was sitting 30 years in the desert outside of Barstow California it took me about five hours to get it up and running including the brakes and then I drove it 85 miles back to my house in 111° weather! And now we live in Phoenix Arizona and she’s still going great original black plate California rust free Dart.

I just picked up a 1967 Dodge Dart garaged it’s whole life no rust but was parked 20 years ago with lots of fuel in tank rusted thru made a hole other then that. New fuel pump was leaking fired right up. Did yours need a new tank sitting that long it was pretty Cheap online with sending unit.

Thanks steve ! I love the old Johan kits ! The darts are my favorites. I built the 62 super stock & made it the Ramchargers car. I masked off the sides and hand lettered the Ramchargers name on in red. Turned out great ! That is my favourite team from the 60's. ! Also built the 62 gold dart that came as a funny car and had dragster skinny tires & wires on front - really was a small dragster with a body ! Love your model videos.!

Jo-Han was my favorite model company they always had cars nobody else would do- Dodge 330 and 61 Oldsmobile F85 wagon. AMT was my second place go-to. Seems like AMT had better quality than the others and were easier to build. Stay warm Steve.

I'll ALWAYS love Darts', My Grandad bought my Granny/God 1 back in mid-'73 because she wanted to learn how to drive. They drove 15-20 mins northbound up Laramie to the local dealership on the corner of Grand & Spaulding. Picked out a new 4-door baby blue, w/dark blue vinyl top & interior, a.m radio, 2-speakers, & trusty slant-6...they've all told me the story how I started "crowning" as she was driving her favorite Daughter (who incidentally happens to be my #1 choice favorite "Ma's" as well?) to the hospital...I can't figure out any other reason why I'm so unapologetically In Love with cars???? Damn, I think I MIGHT only have 1 or 2 Dart kits in my stash???? '68 Hemi kit of course...because God wouldn't respect me if I didn't...Amen

My first car at age 19, in 1983 was, I think a 1974 with the same spec's. And mine had a little turn-signal light on the front fenders. The person I bought it from had a nice stereo put in, with equalizer.

I lost all of my model cars in a house fire,mostly all vintage amt and promo kits from the 60s-70s,literally hundreds of them. That ended that. Got me into restoring cars,saving them from the crusher. Closing 1 door to open another I guess. The downside is they don't fit on a shelf in my living room and take alot longer to assemble

I think it strips the paint off the plastic. You can also use regular bleach ....put the car body or parts in a Ziploc bag with bleach and strip the paint without damaging the plastic.

The problem with acetate plastics is the very thing that gives the product its plasticity ( esters ) are given up or lost by the product causing it to warp over time.

You made a comment about a dip in brake fluid as if it removes paint. Did I understand that right?
@SteveMagnante2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if a model has been painted with most brush or aerosol paints, submerging it in DOT 3 brake fluid will loosen the paint. It takes a few days for heavy applications but won't hurt the plastic. This type of brake fluid also removes chrome plating from kit parts. I use a toothbrush to scrub the paint off the plastic. THANKS for watching, Steve
