This man had a stellar career in Irish traditional music back in the 70’s, built a new career as a singer songwriter in the 80’s, even had a song(Steel Claw) on Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer” album and continues to perform to a high level in 2024.

An audience listening to a performer like Paul Brady in that enthralled concentrated manner is just as good as a hand-clapping, foot-stomping screaming group of people -- this is equally compelling to a performer. This is actually what it's all about. This audience will go home without their ears ringing & they will remember...

I know a man, raised in circumstances nearly identical to mine. I don’t think he was ever dealt a good hand, but played every one of them as well as he could and stayed in the game far longer than most of us would. After finally leaving the table, he clings to shreds of pride smaller than most would kick away in the dust. I sit in the dark alone, and listen to this and think of him. Why a life of so many bad breaks? “The answer is nobody knows.”

Johnny's got high expectations He's gonna rise Everyone knows that Johnny is ready He's ready to fly Up on the rooftop he turns to the crowd No one is waiting No one is there Nobody knows why Elvis threw it all away Nobody knows what Ruby had to hide Nobody knows why some of us get broken hearts And some of us find a world that's clear and bright You could be packed up and ready Knowing exactly where to go How come you miss the connection? No use in asking, the answer is nobody knows No use in asking, the answer is nobody knows Johnny will keep his illusions What else can he do? And you can pretend that it would be different If it happened to you But up on the rooftop, it's a whole other world And who could see heaven And not want to stay? Nobody knows why Elvis threw it all away Nobody knows what Ruby had to hide Nobody knows why some of us get broken hearts And some of us find a world that's clear and bright

I stand corrected versus an older live single acoustic version of this by Paul years ago. It has mellowed and this is the best version with all the added technical artistry and the faces on the crowd and their being in his groove is really great. - )Jim from Minnesota and our travels with Mick to Adriene's Wedding in Goteborg). God bless Mick as well with all he has accomplished in his life on the traditional side. I will always like your decision Paul to keep mostly to the traditional acoustic sound with your beautiful sounding Lowden. Cheers!!

Great Artist, Great Song. Wonderful Irishman and a man of the world. Homes of Donegal, Lakes of Ponchetrain, Arthur mc bride and so on. I love the man. Don't agree with seated concerts.
@fromireland86632 жыл бұрын
Why?
@peadarduggan91912 жыл бұрын
@@fromireland8663 All Seated concerts denies fans the possibility to really feel the music and express themselves through movement, to go with the flow. Listening to song after song for 2 hours in a seat and clapping and cheering at the right moments is like being in a cage. It's more often than not purely waxing the artists' ego. They should be there to entertain and provide enjoyment and not to be adored.
@fromireland86632 жыл бұрын
@@peadarduggan9191 so what about people who cannot stand for long periods?
@peadarduggan91912 жыл бұрын
@@fromireland8663 I never said there should be no seats. Anybody who wants to sit should be able to sit, just like anyone who wants to move should be able to move. Being forced to stand at a concert would be just as imprisoning as being forced to sit.
@fromireland86632 жыл бұрын
@@peadarduggan9191 yeah, well maybe people don't appreciate their view of the stage being blocked by someone bopping in front of them. If it is that NB to you, check before booking and give the sit-downs a miss.

@davescott6068 Жыл бұрын
Watched it again tonight. Po faced audience, this is artistic, that's why we're here? - no, it's a heartbreaking song of why has it turned out this way. Tomorrow night I'll see the diametric opposite "Therapy?" still gigging around Ireland. Absolute nihilism, listen to "Knives" and say you haven't felt that way. I'd say both are artistic in capturing a feeling, and throwing it straight at you.
@davescott606810 ай бұрын
And these po-faced artistic types piss me off even more. Watching with "learned" smiles. Never faced with it, but inside desperately trying to understand. Simple, but difficult - nobody knows.
