Steve, another thing to consider... I don't know if you've changed anything in the physical parts, but the Ra value on the face of the lifter rollers and the cam should be somewhere around ~10. If they are too smooth (as in less than 8 or something), they will just skid instead of roll for lack of anything to bite. I worked in Mfg for bearings and rollers for a few years and this was always the rule. Granted, I haven't built an engine with more than 300HP ... but still worth discussing with an expert and checking.. it's the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw that.

I think what's going to hurt them is it's an 1/8 mile track. So they can't really use it for the big events like bradenton or Orlando get. If it was 1/4 mile it could have been a new track for these drag and drive events. But at least they did make it a stop on the way to help promote it.

People that are happy within in themselves seem to be able to cope with life and its issues and disappointments without throwing toys out the cot in a rant n rave...... Alan W, Steve, Clay M, Kevin Smith, Alex Taylor and it seems Brett la S are in that class. Life happens. Challenge is not to stop competing because you can't win, but to continue in the spirit in a joyful attitude DESPITE the fact you cant win. And that is what makes MEN and WOMEN a great human being. And these type of people have no idea the incredible positive impact they have on others, and especially the youth when they see their "heroes" experience failure and disappointment and cope in a manner that is inspiring to others. As an almost 70yo petrol head, this inspires HUGE RESPECT for these men and women that can overcome, or not, but still be joyful BECAUSR they are happy in them selves as a person. There are a lot of names we can add here like Cleetus and his guys etc etc...too many to name What an example, Steve and Kyle, kudos to you guys......

That new racing facility is awesome! I really wish someone would do something like that here in East Tennessee. My home track (411 drag way) closed years back, but they do still have the circle track. There’s still Knoxville and English Mountain in Newport, but those have seen their better days. Bristol is awesome, but it’s a 90 minute drive in a car, and is a bit more focused on the bigger races. There’s definitely a big gap in what’s available for us fans, ex-racers like myself, and current/future racers. We have the room, definitely have the fan base, we just need to facility. The amount of people in the area of Sevier county allow would be enough to fill the stands. That’s because of all the true fans and racers, but also all the tourists that are already here for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and all the attractions. Imagine a facility with a drag strip, speed shop, drift track, skid pad, a bar and grill, and maybe some go cart racing on the drift track, or letting people rent serious go carts or drift cars to go have some fun!?! It would have to make a killing and help bring more people into the sport. Just me thinking out loud.

An ideia. For "solving" the low oil pression during the long run's, create a electrical system/motor connect to the dry sump oil pump insted of the belt on the crank. With a regulator switch connect to that system you coud regulate the oil pression and go on 900/1000rpm.

So these issues with corrupted programs for fueltech are fairly common. Jump back to one of your old known good Tunes throw that entire file away and everything you have saved since the first day it's corrupt and fueltech won't know what's wrong with it they don't know what's causing it typically when I have that failure it starts turning on yellow outputs and leaving them on and gray outputs turn on randomly and it'll start clicking random things as soon as you turn the key on
@espenschjelderup4268 күн бұрын
Sounds a lot like the corrupted firmware I experienced a few times with a Megasquirt 2 about 15 years ago. It could happen if some data was lost in the communication between the ECU and laptop. The RS232 communication Megasquirt uses is prone to that, and they have since added much more safetys to the protocols. Since then I have experienced it only one time, a MS3 that got bricked. Just out of curosity, do you happen to know which kind of communication Fueltech uses?

It sounds like you have a harmonic on the lifter side of the valve train when driving on the street. This is in sync with the rolling circumference of the lifter. Ultimately, abrasively scrubbing the wheel on the cam. I'm guessing the hardness of the lifter is less than the cam or both are seeing wear.

So would it help for the drive between tracks to have a cut off route thru a more restricted or quieter exhaust for the travels in stead of track runs, or would the restrictions for drone sound be worse for the motor health and reliability?
@smithfamilyvegetables76668 күн бұрын
Lifter issue thought……Is it possible at lower RPM’s the lifters are hydroplaning on the camshaft? Due to the slick oil package additive your running. Could the oil film be thick enough, especially when its cold, that the slight friction on the lifter pinion is greater than the friction between the roller and the cam causing it to slide on the oil film instead of rolling on certain spots of the cam lobe?
@Spike-sk7ql8 күн бұрын
Even a set of stock LS springs would be more than enough pressure to keep a functioning roller, well, rolling. Yes there is a film of oil, but no matter how slick it is, a functional roller will not slide on a cam.
@bigdog20247 күн бұрын
Low oil pressure at idle, really stiff valve springs and you get flat spotted lifters. Steve knows his engine sounds like he knows his ABCs, when it doesn’t sound right he’s going to tear into it as a small problem can become a huge one in a split second with these motors. He’d dodged 2 bullets already with broken valve springs so he’s not taking more chances.

Metallurgy or hardening issue on the lifter rollers? Fine at idle under low load, but once you wack it on launch under full load it deforms due to the incredibly high static forces. Those forces cause a flat spot. Might need a harder roller, or something exotic.

@bubbleheadjack75817 күн бұрын
With REV X in the valve train, there's not enough friction to allow the cam and cam lifter roller to work properly at low RPM. Hate to say it, but the lifter and roller need to be larger. The reason it works at higher idle is those cam follower rollers have rotating inertia.
@Gil-p1t7 күн бұрын
Just thinking out loud, you wonder if you could try the DLC on the lifter bearings-similar coating to what is on the wrist pins. Additionally, with the Cam lift, profiles, etc., you wonder if it’s time to try a similar Tool Steel Material on the rollers of the lifters in combination with the DLC. As you know, there were similar galling issues with the Wrist Pins Galling with the vacuum added-where the tolerances were increased for oil lubrication-in combination with DLC, helped with the Wrist Pins Galling.
