If I had to hazard a guess, most of them probably have some underlying fear that they might be trans because they don't know how to prove that they aren't trans. Kind of like homosexual and heterosexual people often marginalizing bisexual/pansexual. (Edit: Just looked back at this and wanted to be clear that I'm not saying a large proportion of hetero/homosexual people are hating on bisexual people. It just caught my attention a lot more than I'd expected when I first started looking for it. Most people of whatever orientation are fine :) )

I agree with most of what you say.. I pro-trans (FTM/MTF). I still can’t wrap my head around the non-binary thing. It just doesn’t make sense and I notice many of the people in that community don’t seem to have a consistent stance on it. It’s sort of all over the place.🤔

It just means not in the binary, meaning not male or female. It can vary from feeling like no gender, feeling like multiple gender etc.

To my knowledge there's not as much research on nonbinary people as binary trans people, which is why there's so many debates about it. Gender is usually a more complicated thing to trans people because they have to find out why they don't feel comfortable as one gender, so it makes sense that being nonbinary is also a complicated thing. If someone asked you why you feel like the gender you identify as, you probably wouldn't have a very clear answer for it, anything else would just feel wrong. I don't fit in with men or women, so being outside of those groups feels right to me.

Just because I don’t understand or agree doesn’t mean I can’t treat them as much. I’m gay but don’t expect everyone to agree with my sexuality or choice to be with a man. As for pronouns, I can definitely try my best. I think it’s a complicated issue and often very hard to transition into using pronouns like they/them, as we have learned to use them linguistically for multiple people, so it is very easy to mess up. However, just as someone may choose to go by a different name than their original, I can respect using the pronouns they prefer. :-)

@@HeyoChris Believing nonbinary people don't exist because there's no obvious evidence that they do yet would imply that we already know everything there is to know about gender. I don't really know what makes people trans or cis, so how you can be nonbinary would rely on science about trans people. If there's something in the brain that makes you identify with another gender, nonbinary people would probably be different from strictly male and female. Most of our ideas of male and female are socially constructed anyways, so it's hard for me to distinguish between them. It's all so heavily linked to gender roles that it kinda puts me under pressure if I claim to fit into either side. Also, i'm not sure if it's just a weird choice of words or not but being gay or trans is definitely not a choice. You deserve support even when you choose to stay true to yourself and date a man.

Funny story, when I was living in Texas he was there during the women's march and had a booth that said "Rape culture doesn't exist, prove me wrong" and I got pissed off (mind you I wasn't on my psych meds) and went on a tirade/threw a box at his head because like fuck him. He posted the video called "Transgenders Attack". It wasn't a high point in my life but it still makes me laugh. Fun fact about co-ed gyms. If you're there to work out and you don't drop weights or disrespect the gym's rules or your fellow gym patrons? Nobody's going to be that sussed about you being there, cis, trans or whoever you happen to be. I'm an overweight woman who works out at a co-ed gym, and other than a little curiosity (natural, because I was a new person), everyone there either left me alone, or was super supportive.

Ok I feel like I’m the only one who sees this, but I feel like his motivation is even more insidious than it seems on the surface. I think he did this to show that “anyone can dress up like a different gender” in an effort to rile right-wingers up about “men going in women’s restrooms” etc. 🙄 So the fact that no one reacted to him I think WAS a win for him. That’s what he wanted, I think. He wanted to make fun of trans people (obviously) AND make fun of people who are accepting of trans people.
