"Excitement and exploration give way to repose as “Until the Real Thing Comes Along” receives a beautiful reading by Veronica Swift. Recalling iconic moments of this song’s rich history, from Andy Kirk to Jackie Wilson, Feifke’s arrangement ultimately is one of restraint, romanticism, even reverence. While softer textures provide a beautiful framing for Swift’s gorgeous singing, Feifke sneaks in indulgences for careful listeners: a tricky key change up by a tritone prior the vocals’ entrance is just one of many surprises quietly hiding in the soft textural clouds."

-----------------------------------------
Steven Feifke, born June 21st, 1991, is an award-winning pianist, composer and orchestrator with degrees from New York University and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with true luminaries of composition and orchestration, Gil Goldstein and Jim McNeely.
Feifke's tenure in New York City has led to big band and orchestral collaborations with artists like Veronica Swift, Chad LB, Santino Fontana, and more. "Kinetic" marks Feifke's big band debut with his own voice with his own band.
In addition to his New York Collaborations, Feifke's big band music has been featured by ensembles as far as the Malmo Band in Switzerland, and his orchestral music was debuted in August 2019 at the New Generation Festival in Florence, Italy. He has also written original works for television and film media; his music can be heard on Jerry Seinfeld’s hit Netflix show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
Feifke is a two-time semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano competition, and has been featured as a piano sideman on over 20 recordings, notably albums by Ulysses Owens, Jr., Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Danny Janklow and Alexa Tarantino. He is also the recent winner of the 2020 David Baker Prize in composition from the Ravinia Festival for his composition for piano trio and string quartet, “The Promised Land.”
In 2018, Feifke received an Arts Mid- Hudson “Pros Meet Pupils” grant for his curriculum designed to teach students jazz history through performance. He has also appeared as a guest lecturer and guest artist at educational institutions around the US like Yale University, Williams College, Moravian College, Northern Illinois University, and more. He currently sits on faculty at The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he teaches composition and arranging.
"Kinetic" features Feifke's regular 18-piece ensemble, as well as special guest appearances by Veronica Swift and Ulysses Owens Jr.

I love that storytelling! When the big band music started to play, the female sing a jazzy song because the male hero experiences a connection with her while she is singing and can have her. She tends to be out of the main hero's reach because she sings like a nightingale. I love that kind of music! First class!

I can’t express how grateful I am for every single arrangement you do. It literally has become just an inspiration to practice that same standard non stop til you post a new one. I wanna respect your future endeavors and time as much as possible, but PLEASE keep em frequent:’) I love them beyond belief, thank you❤️

Well, the "real thing" has definitely come along with Veronica Swift. Without much fanfare in the mainstream of popular music, female vocal jazz has made a real comeback in the last 20 years or so, and Veronica Swift is one of those latest shining lights. Ms. Swift definitely has the "pipes" and the jazz chops to join the female jazz singing greats. Some might say that she is just "channeling" greats likes Ella, Billie Holiday, or Anita O'Day, but Ms. Swift manages to put her own spin on all those influencers. Here she shows how a swinging jazz ballad should be sung. Also, a mellow, but swinging outing for the band. Jazz lives!
