Hungary has elected authoritarianism. Translation, it is the will of (a significant number of) the people for Hungary to become another Belarus in ten to twenty years. An alliance with authoritarian countries by way of becoming one is not a marriage of convenience. That's a lousy excuse and a cover for an ideological decision they've made years ago. Countries like Belarus do not belong in the EU. I'd rather have them do Putin's bidding outside of the EU than the inside. The EU expelling Hungary would also send a strong message to others f*ing around, like Slovakia for example. In or out? I'm fully open to accepting new EU members who subscribe to the values of the union and defend them (Ukraine, Moldova, hopefully Georgia - and let's not forget the Balkan countries like Montenegro, and maybe Albania). We simply cannot afford to keep saboteurs in at this time. Too much is at stake.

Bullshit and undemocratic, Hungary sees the failures of wokeism, multiculturalism and the LGBT agenda across many nations like the UK, US, NL, France and Sweden and makes a stand against it, same as the American voters are now doing. Their Politicians are also a rare breed in that they actually work for their electorate, and carry out the will of the people, secure cheaper energy and industrial raw materials, and secure foreign investment.

Hungary is a stable member of the European Union, the others are not, and Hungary is entitled to pursue the protection of its culture, the securing of cheap energy and industrial materials to maintain its international competitiveness, and the protection of its citizens from what it sees as failed policy's globally on wokeism, multiculturalism, and the LGBT agenda as seen in the US, UK, NL, Sweden and France etc.

I am old enough to remember the Hungarian uprising in 1956. In my home country we received thousands of refugees with open arms. We are out there! Really, even Speaker Johnson supports Ukraine, he's just more worried about the illegals (see Musk's extraordinarily well put explanation of the threat to US politics / 2 party system.) As for Ukraine, Johnson's main demand was that Biden submit some sort of freaking goals and strategy. Even Ben Hodges has said that too. That requirement was included with the last support Appropriations bill. Have we heard a peep from Biden? Harris? Austin? Blinken? Crickets...

I think there almost has to be at least an element of "oh crap".* What the Ukrainians - the people as much or more than Z-Man need to do is make sure Trump understands they will fight, even if it takes a grim guerilla war, if any deal is made is too unfair. *Find the episode of Babylon 5, "Severed Dreams", where "Garibaldi" exclaims "Awwww, NUTS!" Then he and his men and allies go on to (grimly) defeat the invaders. This is the spirit Ukraine must have. If Z-Man accepts a crap deal, dump him. The Ukies have good experience with that sort of thing. P.S. Fun trivia note: The actor who played Garibaldi, Jerry Doyle, was actually injured in the filming of the battle scene. So, when he shows up in a cast afterward, it was a real cast!

@@rcmonks Andrew there is almost certainly either a Russian troll (just create chaos) or a fanatical Trump-hater. Trump has also said fairly recently that Putin's current positions / demands are unacceptable, and some time back he stated that if Putin was unreasonably he would send 3x the weapons. In fact, I think Trump should propose right now that he needs a negotiating lever: Propose that Congress appropriate 3x the weapons, to become effective upon his taking office, with the stipulation that the President can cancel or reduce it if a suitable "deal" can be made. This would fit right in with Trump's negotiating style in the past.

Despite my despair today, I also have kept thinking of your Illarionorov interview where he spelled out how little and how slowly the approved funds had been getting to Ukraine as weapons, and wondered why Harris was so silent on how she would do things other than "continue" on an issue that had bipartisan support. I get that Americans have a lot of internal problems on their minds but she did not even try to explain why preventing Putin from spreading his tentacles further is so important to the entire free world. Even if one only cares about business, the foundation most require is political stability. U.S. firms won't have that if the rest of Europe, a key U.S. customer, is faced with more war along and within its borders.

5 120mm mortar rounds can be produced using about the same resources required to make 1 155mm artillery round. Ukraine should be looking for more modern mortar systems such as Finland's Patria NEMO. Without the USA even more cost efficient strategies are required. Cheap drone production should continue to expand. New rifle production such as CZ Bren 3 should be expanded. Forget about the expensive end such as aircraft and precision missiles, it is clear that those will be available in decreasing numbers over time. Tanks and artillery are going to gradually run out of munitions and spare parts. Now it is trench to trench, house to house, grim and desperate.

I can't believe that someone could inyect a bit of cautious optimism in the post election doom and gloom. But today's guest did it. And pointing out the inefficiency of Biden's team as regards Ukraine is a good way of doing it. I just believe that team Trump has painted themselves into a corner as far as their Ukraine rhetoric is concerned.

OMG. Europe splitting up into a bunch of smaller "more effective" alliances is THE most sure route to WW3. Down the road, you can even take Russia out of the equation, as an aggressor. History is very clear on that one. I will say, the renewed cooperation between Hungary and Iran on nuclear tech surprised me, but on reflection, with Pooty steering Orban... Trump needs to learn of that ASAP, because he's very tough on Iran. Can some unimpeachable source be linked to regarding said deal?

I think it was a mistake for Zelensky and the Ukraine bubble to side with the Democrats so clearly. Trump will certainly not forget that. Perhaps it would have been better to invest some of the money raised for drones etc. in the election campaigns of candidates from both parties who support military aid to Ukraine? Ukraine should follow the example of the Israel lobby if it wants to be heard in Washington.
@rcmonks
@rcmonks Сағат бұрын
Zelenskyi has been heard very well in Washington. It's the Administration that has been foot-dragging and slow-walking aid. 31 tanks to date and zero F-16s. 10% of approved aid delivered out of $61million.

Left wing ideology wishes to approach everything by consensus in fear of mistakes and believe they are not understood because people are not sufficiently sophisticated enough. Right wing ideology wishes to make instinctive direct decisions with little if any consensus with minimal fear of mistakes and believe they're not understood because people have lack of vision. The problem is that both are right and wrong at the same time because no dogma can cater for all circumstances. Each circumstance should be analyzed and the appropriate dogma applied and as important the correct people need to oversee the actions taken. EG: Quick decisive decisions need to be prosecuted by people who innately believe in this approach. A person who innately believes in consensus can not prosecute quick decisive decisions effectively. And vice versa. Ultimately dogma is the problem. There are a myriad of procedures but never a procedure for what happens if no procedure in the current list applies!

Regading JEF, & similar formats within NATO; yes, I think that is what will (need) to happened.. Also, look at the Nordic, & NB8 formats.. Now that both Finland & Sweden has become part of NATO, those groups are consolidating rapidly.. They may not be more than a bit over 30 million in population, but together they represent over 2 trillion US $ in GDP. They represent what is considered to be one of the most innovative regions of the world, & they still have some local manufacturing capabilities, including a not insignificant weapons industry, including development..🧐 This is potentially a "old-new" powercentre evolving. The old North looks to be coming together again, & from history we know that when the North joins together, they are not a force to be taken lightly..

All this 'argument' all hinges on your stupid Presidential system which puts so much emphasis onto a one individual in the White House rather than a Parliamentary focus where the 'Leader' is just one part of a team all with equal, authority, more or less, as a part of the Parliament subject to debate in the House or Senate ! And subject to election with the whole; not a separate stand alone election for a figurehead !

The first thing everyone needs to do is be realistic as to what an Ukraine victory looks like. When victory represents Ukraine sovereignty and neutrality, victory is obtainable. As long as victory represents a return to prior boundary lines and nato membership, victory is unobtainable, now or ever.
