A brilliantly-controlled performance. For all my irritation at the complete lack of necessity for conducting it on separate pianos, I can't help thinking there is a greater clarity of line and texture than I can recall on a single instrument. Perhaps the empty hall helps. Respect to Steven Osborne for not playing along with the 'nonsense', garb-wise.

Hardly! It’s actually harder to perfect the rhythmic ensemble with two pianos. There is also the acoustical benefit of having each pianist control the damper and shift pedals, allowing for more musical refinement, better balance and clarity.
