This is exactly why I hunt moose (brown bear and grizzlies too) with a .375H&H. I live and hunt moose (much bigger than that one) in Alaska; in the brush during rut just like that. Shots are typically less than 50 yards and straight through the chest just like that. .375 does the job one shot every time. Maybe put the 7mm away for the moose and grizzlies. Sure, I've killed moose with a 30.06, but the .375 is by far the way to go. That's what my entire family hunts moose with in Alaska going all the way back to the 60s when my grandpa was a guide.

Glad you are okay, and speaking from experience you gain a new appreciation for the wait after the shot. Two years ago I shot a 140" whitetail with my bow, it walked 35 yards laid down and looked like it expired. 5 minutes later my gear was packed and I was approaching it. Came at it from behind like normal, it looked dead, I opened its legs to gut it and wam! Rear leg kicks me in ribs so hard it broke 3. It didn't move after it kicked me, and WAS clearly dead this time. My cousin field dressed it for me.

He got so luck and its crazy how he is so nonchalant about it. This could have went a different way. I would probably have said f*** it and let the Moose go for not killing me in this situation. Don't get me wrong I think the guy is a good guy. But to me he was a little bit too cocky in this situation and not humble enough about making it out of the situation. by just been knocked down by this massive moose that could have literally tore him apart in this situation. And I honestly felt like the moose knew what he was doing and basically saying I have the ability to take your life just like you have the ability to take my life. after the Moose knocked him down and the Moose just stood there after. and looked at the guy the moose was basically saying I will save your life if you save mine and let me go but they still killed the moose. Lol I'm not some anti Hunter and tree hugger but I would have let that moose go. most moose that get humans in that situation don't stop after they knock you down they stopped after you're dead.

People do make errors, especially in times of extreme stress &/or excitement. "everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face..." Learn from this & don't be so critical in judgment. 😂 so many people who hate hunters are going to love this one LOL. I had a close call like that one time while hunting but it was with a family of raccoons😂😂 those fuckers can be vicious sometimes

I've shot thousands of rounds in the military with the M16 and 249, but I've never hunted. What happened to his weapon?

I got into a 1/4 mile sprint with a cow that had 2 red calves, she caught up 3 times but God was watching out for me, there was something to get behind every time. You have no idea how much fear a moose can inspire in you, till it happens to you... LMAO!!!

Obviously laws vary in each state, but when I’m in Maine, I carry a 454 casull on my chest for this exact reason. I had a close call once. Not this close, but close enough I don’t want to be there again. Glad Steve is ok.

I have a bull moose who follows me around my property here in Alaska during the winter months, I worry he'll charge one day, but so far I've been lucky. He even dropped his antlers in my driveway one year...It's strange, but I'm a little attached to him. Don't think I could pull the trigger on him at this point - but seeing this video makes me consider it.

For everyone wondering it was not a misfire. In the excitement Steve ejected a good round and actually had a empty gun. He was using a .300wsm. He explained this on a podcast

I hope you bought another pair of underwear...lol Last year, I had a bull moose walk right up to me, no more than 20 feet 20 minutes before shooting light in Northern Ontario. He stood there wondering what the hell I was. Thankfully the wind was perfect and he couldn't smell me. I waited what seemed to be hours, with this bull standing in front of me before light. Anyway as soon as it was light and legal to shoot, I put a 300 win mag round in his chest and that was the end of that stand-off. But if he charged I would have had no chance.
