He deserves every dollar he has earned. His films have been culture changing and he is a visionary. I will never forget going the cinema to watch Jurassic park, the excitement was fever pitch, it was EVERYWHERE and the scene when we are first introduced to a dinosaur was breathtaking. I can only imagine the investors seeing the film for the first time and knowing that they have a colossal juggernaut on their hands. Thank you Mr Spielberg from a film fan.

Jaws, Close Encounters and then Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was awesome to be a kid back then. I was 4 when George Lucas did Star Wars and blew our doors off. Harrison Ford was bouncing back and forth between that Trilogy and Indiana Jones. It was incredible!

He started his career with micro-budget films and had to rely on creativity and practical solutions for years. Agreed, @dumbcat! Ever since I added the adjusted values to the formula, I've been amazed again and again by how crazy inflation has been during our lifetime. The older the figures, the more shocking they are. I’ve got to start looking at some really old ones, like John Wayne or even Chaplin, just to make my own jaw drop at the scale of inflation...

I met Spielberg once in LA by happenstance. All I said to him was "I saw Amistad in the theater." Without hesitation, he pulled two twenties out of his wallet and handed them to me. I guess he wanted to reimburse me for the popcorn and soda as well.
