Steven Tyler Harmonica review with Ben Hewlett

Hey, sorry if this is a noob question but is this only available in the key of A? I'd like to buy one as a gift to a friend but she needs the key of C. Should i go with Bob Dylan signature one? Thanks in advance.

Looks like it comes/came with the same kind of case as the Big River. Interesting choice. There do seem to be vendors on amazon that have this harmonica and Guitar Center and Musician's Friend both have it discounted at the moment.

The signature series tends to be over $80. There is a much cheaper ST version, which tends to run about $30.00.

Most 'signature' models in life are more about associating with the star rather than the actual thing you are buying. That said it's a solid instrument bearing the name Hohner and should play as well as any of their mid range ms harps. If you like the look and sound go for it.

Mick try a Google search for the Steven Tyler harmonica. I made this KZbin video review quite a few years ago and Hohner has altered the instrument since then. See if it's on SonnyboysMusicStore.co.uk.

I cant agree with the guy who said that Tyler sucks on harmonica. I admit that he isnt Jason Ricci or Dennis Gruenling, but he far from sucks. But what does suck is this Tyler Series Harmonica by Hohner. It is cheap and flimsy. It is not made in Germany as all other Hohners are but rather in China. Let's just say that the Asian craftsmanship leaves much to be desired. Do not buy this harmonica. A Big River Harmonica by Hohner gives you a bright tone and costs about the same.

Do a search for some of his playing highlights... and yeah... educate yourself buddy. He far from "sucks"... he's no Sonny Boy, but he can really rock the thing in a different way.

@revkev I love a gal who, for some reason I will probably never fully understand, loves Steven Tyler. Aerosmith never totally hooked me. Still, S.T. can make some decent sounds come through a harp. He's no ace player, but his harmonica efforts, when awkwardly compared to the farce of watching Lil' Wayne try to figure out what the strings on a guitar are for, make him seem like John Popper, & J.P. can kill my interest with chronic overplaying. I like Dylan, but he's over-hyped WAY beyond Tyler.

it doesnt matter if tyler can play or not. his celebrity will sell the product like wildfire! once someone sees him put a harp to his mouth, either on stage at a concert or from a y-tube video, if they're an aerosmith fan...they're gonna buy one. and 'hohner' who made the 'signature harmonica' doesnt give a shit who's name is on it as long as it sells and makes money. i personally dont think he is an accomplished harp player...but once again like i said, celebrity sells!

@tytyty901 He's average. He'd never make is living being a harp player like a Butterfield, or Little Walter. That's all I'm saying. As far as I know Butterfield and Little Walter never had a sig harp! Good grief, don't you see the ridiculousness of this? A sig microphone? Yeah! Harp? No. He's NOT that good. He blows out and sucks in. Virtually zero bending. He knows where the notes are. In the interest of peace I'll raise my "he sucks" to "not too bad". Lol! BTW, I've been playing 45 years.

First off let me say that I am a big fan of Aerosmith and think that Tyler is one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) front men in rock history. However, that said, how in the world does he get a signature harp? He sucks (no pun intended) as a harp player! Who in the world would ever use him as a model or example of how to play the harp? He has zero technique. Even Robert Plant plays harp better and he sucks too!
