After watching the whole show, I see Ronaldo as a Cassandra character. No one believes his theories or predictions, but....... I always get some level of chills whenever I hear Ronaldo say, "I know what the diamond means."

'They fused again' that's something I caught too, I love how Steven brings them together like that. Being alexandrite for 5 minutes to keep up a charade was too much, but the second Steven was in danger in their eyes they immediately sync up. There's an even greater example but that's a good ways down the line

If I were in Steven's position, and (for some ungodly reason) I was willing to go along with Connie's lie, I would've taken Garnet. Pearl may seem the most conventional and mom-like, but she's less willing than either Garnet or Amethyst to put up with human stuff that's not her cup of tea, and I don't think there's any way to explain "we're at a dinner party and she won't eat anything" in a way that will satisfy Connie's mom without dropping the lie and explaining that she's an alien. Garnet is willing to eat, she gets along with Greg, she's not gross, and the anger she showed towards Pearl and Amethyst when Alexandrite fell apart due to their bickering proves that she is the one with the most self-control and the most determination to help Steven keep his fusion-friend. Plus, since her voice is the one that Connie's mom heard over the phone, bringing her would be the best way to minimize the ridiculously-high chances of Connie's lie being discovered.
