When I furst watched that episode, I was like "oh, cats hate water, Greg had better use his brain" but I watched it a second time, and saw Steven the way Greg must have: HIS CHILD, WHOSE ABILITIES THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND AND HE COULDN'T CONTROL, WAS BEING TURNED INTO AN AMALGAMATION OF FLUFF LIKE A CANCEROUS TUMOUR. White Diamond was honestly done well for how little screen time she had. Yes it does get undercut by the whole “they shouldn’t have been forgiven/they should have been given some kind of redemption plot line” but for what it’s worth she was done well and was pretty damn creepy. Let’s also keep in mind CN was also still pushing against Rebecca because it was a part of that exodus involving “cartoons with stories need to be destroyed/are bad”. -_-

I know there was a lot of criticism lobbed at this finale for being rushed, for the diamonds not getting enough comeuppance, or any, for not every plot thread being followed through with. but honestly? I loved it. They did what they could with the time they had, and most importantly: Steven finally has catharsis. His whole life he's been compared to his mom, he's been told he IS his mom, he's been struggling with living up to her when she literally killed herself to have him, and he's been struggling to understand if she's really gone or if he's just keeping her trapped. But now he finally has his answer. He's Steven. and he's always been Steven.

@@genjis5155 I mean, technically it wasn't CN's fault, the series lost funding by not being able to sell the rights to as many countries as it did at the beginning, you know, the wedding episode didn't sit well with many television stations. Which caused the series to no longer have financing, because you see, CN only finances a series to a certain point and then they depend on how successful they are internationally (the merchandise also helps) how much it can be extended.

For a while I used to think Gem Half Steven was just Steven minus his personality but then I ran into a very interesting take of the separation scene. Obviously, human Steven is weak and unable to move. You could even say he might be dying there. The interesting bit is Gem Steven. He behaves like an artificial fusion. Single minded, aggressive and really only trying to refuse and become whole again. It's not Gem Steven being a fully functioning gem minus the emotions, it's him literally behaving like a fragment of a gem.

The amount of theories I'd consume about them and speculating what they'd look like, even the possible fusions between Steven, Pearl, and Garnet 😭. It was def fanservice but I was eatin' it UP !!
