The strength of it shows that even when you make mistakes and hurt people, simply acknowledging those flaws in yourself and promising to learn and understand is enough to start a change, to start fixing the problems there. Without acknowledging the problems you can’t fix them, especially when those problems are internal. Showing this in a kids show is amazing and they do it so casually too

I think its less that Peridot doesn't understand "feelings", cause she's been very emotional in her own right - she just has no perspectice of her own bigotry yet, cause she's now, for the first time in her life, in a community where it *is* perceived as bigotry

I genuinely believe that peridot was attempting to compliment Amethyst with no condescending intentions-- to peridot, the only thing that can be definitively said to be not optimal about Amethyst is her height, and it's kind of wholesome that she's so quickly trying to show that she likes her.

Can we also just talk about Peridot using the recorder to talk with people? That hits right at home for me. Sometimes its really hard to express yourself face-to-face. So using a recorder is such a brilliant move!

Peridot is often considered to be autistic coded, this was the first episode where i think it really kind of shows, even though she is having to unlearn biggotry in these episodes which is off putting to a lot of people, I think throughout the series she's my favorite character just because she is really good autism representation. we see in this episode where she doesn't understand why her odd behavior is comedic to others, can't tell when she is saying something percievable as rude or hurtful, tends to think more in a more literal/logical way, and communicates her emotions better by using tools.

"Too Far" is one of those episodes that demonstrate why Peridot's character arc is my favourite by far over the course of the show. It feels way more organic for her to join the crystal gems, more so than the many other Homeworld gems that seem to flip to Steven's side on a dime.

I can't even express the things these episodes made me feel when i watched them for the first time. I was always a huge peridot fan so these episodes were always the best

Dad always told me “Son, it takes a strong man to admit he’s weak. And an honest one to understand when he’s wrong.” I live by those pieces of advice as they really apply to anyone. And seeing Peridot here? That really took some strength on her end. To admit she was wrong and still learning. The delivery is earnest I can’t help but smile.

I'm fully aware of how original this complaint is but I think Amethyst should have apologized to Peridot in that last episode. I love Peri's apology scene, great moment, big step forward in her redemption arc but the only reason she said any of that is because Amethyst taught her that making fun of people is funny. She also encouraged her to do it to Steven and Amethyst herself did it to Peridot. Because let's face it, early seasons Amethyst, kind of a bitch. She's been actively bullying basically everyone she comes across since episode 1, this could have been a nice moment of retrospection for her. A chance for her to realise "you know, it's not so nice being torn to shreds, maybe I shouldn't do it". Also Amethyst's whole arc is getting over her inferiority complex, this would have been a great addition to that with her realising that she's been taking out her insecurities on people for centuries. But she just gets that line at the end to show that she's learned nothing

I will say, Amethyst going quiet and avoiding Peri is some growth. Unlike Steven (and the viewers), Amethyst still barely knows Peridot. Since Peridot reformed, Amethyst's interactions with Peridot have basically consisted of talking to her through a bathroom door while Peri calls them clods and watching Peri insult and belittle Pearl over being a Pearl. She has no reason to view Peridot in a friendly light yet. Considering that she once physically attacked Pearl at that same Kindergarten for making her feel bad about her origins, Amethyst's response to Peri is quite an improvement. Biting your tongue and just walking away takes a kind of maturity too. And I think we should keep in mind that this is a particularly sensitive topic for Amethyst. She's always felt like there was something wrong with her, and now Peridot straight-up tells her that she's even wrong gemetically speaking. I don't think Amethyst would get this mad about regular teasing, but Peridot went Too Far (though she obviously didn't intend to and was egged on by Amethyst). Amethyst's response is not perfect by any means, but considering Amethyst's particular hangups regarding her origins, it's an improvement. While I would have also liked to see Amethyst more explicitly apologize to Peri for giving her the cold treatment, her response in the show does feel more like Amethyst imo. I also wouldn't say that Peri was really making fun of anyone. She was being way too honest about her thoughts, like asking Garnet to unfuse because Garnet made her feel uncomfortable (she hasn't really learned to be sensitive about how others may react to what she's saying). Her descriptions of the other Crystal Gems aren't meant to make fun of them, they're just Peridot's unfiltered, honest opinions. Part of the whole moral of the episode is that even if you didn't intend to hurt someone's feelings, you should still recognize when you have and try to make amends for it. I could see why some might disagree with this message, but it does feel very Steven Universe to me.
