To this day this song has been the best encapsulation I have ever found for the subconscious feelings one has after a breakup. You feel like you are shipwrecked, and even though it's a shipwreck you have experienced before, you remembered the good times you had at sea before and choose to board the ship anyway. Then the way it describes the old habits you fall back into when you are in that wreck, the "hatred" you feel for life... I use quotations because there is awareness of all of these habits being a coping mechanism and a protective self but saying screw it and letting yourself run with it for a while until eventually you decide it's time to sail away on your broken ship to find a safe harbor to repair in. It is such a beautiful metaphor. Thank you Steven for being able to express emotions so beautifully and in turn allowing the rest of us to feel seen.
