Hello. I’ve heard several times you have to install the tire in the opposite direction. In other words the arrow that would normally face spinning forward, should be installed in the opposite direction is that true?
@sikbaggers Жыл бұрын
Unless the tire is made specifically for a fat tire application, which I think there is one company now making it, then yes you will run it backwards. I'll try to explain the best I can, The tire you are putting on the front is a rear tire. The tires are manufactured for front or rear, meaning they are glued together a certain way for the specific placement. If you think about it like this, when you are riding and hit your brakes, the weight of the bike is pulling on the back tire, and the weight of the bike is pushing on the front tire. So the "guts" of the tire are acting in different ways. If you put the rear tire on the front with arrows facing forward the bikes weight is now pushing on the tire incorrectly and can cause the tire to come apart internally. It does not change the handleing of the bike at all, even on wet pavement where the grooves come into play to disperse the water..it still does what it is suppoed to do but you wont have it come apart on you over time. I hope this all makes sense and helps..let me know..happy holidays! - Steve

That’s a better video than your last fork replacement vid BY FAR. I did use your last vid as reference when I did my fork job. My only criticism is that when you put that cap back on the top of your tube, I highly recommend starting it by hand if you can and not straight with a power tool. Very easy to cross thread. Then you’re up shit creek. But very well done thank you.

Thanks man..yeah that old fork video was done on a bad day and I tried to make the best of it...We had plenty of time on this one. Ive done about 30 sets of forks since then too so that helps. I hope I never have to find out the hard way I guess lol

@sikbaggers5 жыл бұрын
Hey tony...yeah man im diggin it...On the janky ass fork holder I used a 10 inch clamp from harbor freight, a piece of 1 1/4" 6061-T6 angle, 12" long and a sheet of rubber gasket from menards toilet section lol I think you get 2 sheets about 10x10 inch for 5 bucks, btw menards has the hand clamps too but they were not listed on the website, however I seen them when I got there. I stuck it with some 3m weatherstrip adhesive & ruffed it up with sandpaper. Took my jigsaw and went back about 2 inches on the clamp and started my v notch and then kind of rounded it out some. 2 carriage bolts to hold it to the angle bracket. the legs are 49mm so I made it slightly smaller than 1.9 inches...I tested it with a 2 inch piece of pipe I had laying around until I got it the size I wanted.

Thanks for video. I'm getting mine Saturday. You didn't cover the direction of tire. I read tire rotation is backwards on front. Is that how I tell left or right side for ABS bearing and wheel install? Thanks
@sikbaggers Жыл бұрын
Yes...there is only one tire on the market that run in the forward direction as far as I know and it the perelli, I believe. Look for the arrows on the side of the tire and make sure it is ran backward when you install it. The tire is ran backward because it is a rear tire. The rear tire is made differently than the front for braking reasons. when you hit the brakes the tire in the rear is has the weight of the bike in front and the front has the weight of the bike in the rear pushing on the tire. So when you move it to the front you have to run it backwards. I hope that makes sense..that's a short form explanation.

What is a better choice in your opinion… the road glide limited that comes with the trunk or go with the special and have the trunk added? I can’t make up my mind.
@sikbaggers3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jerry...Firstly make sure you note the differences between the RG and the RG limited..The limited has a Road king rear end so no fender extension which is the filler panels on the back side between the fender and the bags, every limited guy calls me and asks how to fill those gaps...simple, should have got a RG or RG special, tour pack is hard mounted and will cost another 3 to 400 to make it a quick detach. In my opinion the limited is not a good choice based on price. Because you have options on the tour packs..unless you just want everything coming from Harley and if you do then it wont matter get ready to get your wallet out. Over at advanblack we sell color matched tour packs, stretched bags, lower leg fairings..all that stuff that comes on that limited but at a fraction of the cost of HD...and we color match around 85 colors right now. So as long as we do your color we can paint those parts for you as well. The only difference between the standard and the special is the radio, One has navigation and one doesn't, abs brakes and maybe a few minor colored parts here and there on the M8 engine...thats it. One other thing to note is that almost ever limited has a 2 tone paint job...if you ever want to add something to the bike you youll have to pay double the price for paint from HD to color match it...Basically if you get the ultra your stuck with it the way it is..if you get the special it givies you room to make it your own, which we all say we wont do anything to the bike but we all do eventually...its a bike...we want it to be custom to us., Just something to think about. here is my honest opinion...I have bought 2 touring models and got them both standards. The harley navigation sucks, bad, so I wouldnt pay more for that, the abs is cool but ive never had it on any bike so no lose to me. I would never pay the extra for the special or the limited. Its not worth the money. Then I took those standards and the money I saved and made them my own. Please check out my videos on "Full build lists" I have one for the SG and the RG. Get the cheaper bike, get a plan i your head how you want it and then start looking at advanblack for the color matched parts that you want to upgrade. You can add the lower fairings and quick detach tour pack and basically have an ultra with a fender extension that loks way better than those nasty gaps back there, at a fraction of the cost. Sorry to have such a winded comment but ive been down this rode with so many customers before and I hate to see people throw away hard earned money.

The more I see those kits and hear the reviews about how nice they handle, the more I am leaning towards putting one on my 17. The issue will be the paint. The Laguna Orange with the graphic on the front fender will be hard to match. 😕 Awesome video, thanks.

they have it on their website. they will pre paint it for you
@rickyhawkins74075 жыл бұрын
Ryan Caraballo, I see they have the fender I would use, it is just having the graphic done, identical to the one on my OEM fender. Same reason I haven’t changed my rear fender to the CVO style. Most can match the color, can’t recreate the graphic. Probably a sticker I could order from H-D, not going that route yet.

Hey Ricky...Im pretty sure that we found out those decals are hydro dipped from HD and cannot be pruchased. ...Your best bet would be to find someone who can airbrush...they can lay down the stripes and mock the pattern in the middle. We have had guys do it around here. Im sure it wont be cheap however.

Do you change the back wheel to match the front rim? Thanks for the links that jump 2 parts of the video. Some of the best how to videos I've seen on KZbin.

Did a 21 fatty on my 2020 street glide with a 131 kit. Have major death wobble to the point I can’t accelerate. Harley has no clue switched out another tire and new rim and added a stabilizer. A little better but still same thing. Am switching to a 23 regular if can’t fix. Any ideas thanks

Steve. Got the flush axle all installed! Thx again. However, on the video you say to torque the axle to 70 to 75 ft lbs (as per Harley) but the installation instructions from native say to torque it to 50. Which is best?
@sikbaggers2 жыл бұрын
oh mine didnt come with torque specs so I just used the manual...put her at 50 if thats what it calls for.
@pbarre792 жыл бұрын
@@sikbaggers yeah, on the installation instructions it said torque to 50 ft lbs so that's what I did. Finished it successfully. My last step is to install 2 inch fairing drop and I'm all done! Question regarding that is, am I repacking the stock bolts with the 4 bolts that come with the kit? Or is it some sort of thing that calls fore to use both the stock and native provided bolts. Sort of confused with it. I have the ratchet straps ready and already removed the headlight and outer fairing

Why did you install a progressive 1" drop in lowering kit? What does it do for the ride?

@manchudragon16254 жыл бұрын
love the video it answered a lot of questions I had. only thing I wondered, i heard when doing the fat tire kit you have to put the new front tire on backwards. is this true and if so why? wont that affect the wet traction riding?
@sikbaggers4 жыл бұрын
The tire is designed for one direction. The rear tire has force when accelerating. The front tire does not accelerate the tire. The front tire force is when braking. So you reverse the tire. No issues in rain...weve all been in down pours and the tires handle amazing! Hopefully this helps explain. Pirelli is trhe only one that makes one called the night dragon that you mount forward but really no need to spend that much on a tire.

I do very much like this video, but at 16 minutes into the video you mentioned torque bolt spec for top bolt at 22-59 pounds and bottom bolt with crush washer is 11-18. The range on the top bolt is very high. Should that be corrected? You are very comfortable with what you are doing. Your experience turning wrenches shows. I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos as this was my first.
@sikbaggers5 жыл бұрын
I agree Manuel...that is probably one of the most spread out torque values I have seen on a harley but I doubled checked the service manual and it says "fork tube plug 22 - 59 ft lbs. I think I torqued mine out to 48 ft lbs. Thanks for checking out the channel as well. The whiskey project has come along way and we still have some more videos coming ..some easy stuff and some more maintenance stuff as well.
