Thorough and professional job. I have an old 1979 Lennox and the guy came out some years back to add some gas. So, I asked him how I should clean it, and he asked me if I had a hose. I handed him the hose he sprayed it for about 30 seconds and looked at me. I said, "Is that it?", he said "Yea". WTF. I live in Southern Illinois and everything is done the hill-billy way. This year, I removed the top with fan motor assembly, slide it to the side, vacuumed out all of the leaves and dirt, hosed and wet vacuumed it.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and technique: this is a good tutorial video for me: I may attempt to clean our American Standard Inc Heritage 13 [mfg 2007] - I never cleaned a HVAC system, so I will need to watch this video several times to buildup my confidence.

Never seen a pulltie melt before. They're designed to withstand fairly high heat, at least 300 degrees. Nice job Steve. Looks a lot better now.

Nice rinse job. I like the garden sprayer because you don't waste cleaner and you can let it sit on the coils before rinsing in a higher concentration for better cleaning.
@stevenlavimoniere10 жыл бұрын
Nicholas CeeA the spray container takes forever .. the coil gun is fast . time is money .i like the coil gun better . so you use more cleaner its 1/8 the time

That's the way had to clean units Steven. No coil guns even though I'd like them! Learned to clean on my folk's old trusty Weathertron from 1975 and boy stuff sure had meat in the old days HEAVY well constructed. But I can't tell you how many of the old GE 's ran for 10 to 15 years and never got touched cleaning wise. A lot of them died way before their time really... The Rheems did awesome too. -Mike

Did the wires to the fan motor have to be cut in order to move it out of the way or do they just unplug?
@johnnyjohnson29428 жыл бұрын
We used the coil guns in the 90s when they first came out, about one season. Im sure Nu Calgon loves the coil guns but as you stated you end up using twice the CC. I went back to the pump up and never looked back.
@stevenlavimoniere8 жыл бұрын
+johnny Johnson i did try both i like the coil gun sprayer takes longer time is money so the extra cleaner equals out in time saved . pay me know or may me later . i bill the cleaner out anyway so i do not care . get her done quick fast,and right is my moto

I have Trane units. XL1200. I’m about to follow your video and attack. I’m nervous about the circuit board inside. Are you just careful not to spray it on do you wrap in with plastic or something? Really enjoy your videos.
@sokola311 Жыл бұрын
Both condensers are missing the bases hence the drainage issues (see them sitting flat on concrete??) and always spray them from the inside out.
@crgregful10 жыл бұрын
I prefer the coil gun as well steve, the pump sprayer just takes to long, but I know a lot of techs that use the pump sprayer still.. I also seem to have better luck with the purple nu-brite cleaner. Some strong cleaner for sure.

You should always clean from inside the outdoor unit to push dirt back out!
@stevenmoomey21153 жыл бұрын
Something I would never do is reach inside a condenser and scoop the leaves out. One of our guys got needle stuck doing that. I always used my cheap vacuum topped bucket to clean the units out. Tip; use Calgon’s De-Foamer, to help in rinsing the foam and soap out of the compressor area. It only takes a few drops to kill the foam.

Steven, I have a Rheem heat pump and a Ruud air handler in my apartment. I am renting the apartment and they have been out to fix it several times to fix it. They told me to switch it into emergency heat when it gets below 30 degrees. It uses electric as its back up heat. What do you suggest I should do??? They put in heat pumps in my apartment complex and are bottom of the line of Rheem.
@stevenlavimoniere10 жыл бұрын
Alexander wickham yes under 30 you should switch to emergancy heat .some states have safetys that shut heatpumps of at 40 .below freezing is 32 . you should not run the heat pump ..run the emergencey heat.... down south were heat pumps are installed it usually does not get that cold ..
@alexwickham541710 жыл бұрын
Steve I been watching your uploads could you do a lesion on how underground source heat pumps works? Thanks Steve
@Chris-uh7nm3 жыл бұрын
It would be a breeze if you used a wet/dry vac to vacuum all the debris inside the condenser. Then use the water hose to wash it.

If you used stainless steel ty-wraps. you wouldn't have to worry about plastic ty-wraps which do deteriorate when used outside. Slightly more expensive, but far superior to plastic types.

My 9 year 8 mo. old American Standard AC unit is a 3 stage: Stage 1: pay for a Allegiance 15 model but apparently they installed a 13 (bottom of the line) Stage 2: Live with very poor quality cooling. It never did not reach set temp and on hot days not even reach a comfortable temp. unless it's so mild outside it doesn't need to be on, until eventually the air blowing out is 70º F).. Stage 3: Replace the whole piece of shit unit.

Carelessly rinsed (a non-adjustable nozzle ?) ....Didn't rinse well from top-down. Never showed reassembling the panels (which is awkward). How long did it take and much did ya' charge because anyone could've done it. he-he I does look like those coils would be better than Yorks micro-coils (which ice up like nobodys' business). I'm just a property caretaker - not technician.
@UltraHydrophobiccoat3 жыл бұрын
The newer version which has black plastic base is very difficult to take off the housing panels. Very stupid design. 3 years old aluminum condenser coil leaks over 5lb refrigerant. Don’t buy American Standard AC
