You could tell by how the blower motor started up after the capacitor was replaced that it wasn't gonna last long.

If you pull the blower, crawl in it and look at the heat exchanger. These carriers were known to crack. But the funny thing is, the older they are, the more durable they are. I found a 1992 version of one of these and zero cracks, nuts.

@@reese8752 - Yeah, I was a little surprised that he was contemplating a 1/2 hp motor. I haven’t checked prices on those generic 3/4 hp blower PSC motors lately. Ten years ago, you could buy them for less than $100. Some of those ECM motors got crazy expensive during the pandemic. Some parts just weren’t available.

I have the exact same fan. The old motor had to be oiled annually. The only way to do it, was remove it from the fan, just like Steve did here. It was a royal pain to get the motor shaft out, and back in. I used a hammer and a punch to get it out. I sanded the shaft, cleaned it, putna coating of 3-in-1 oil on the shaft, and reinserted it into the fan.

Curious question steve, ive been in the hvac-r trade for 20 years, half as long as you.. how come you dont carry an use a little compact drill for all disassembling an assembling. Besides my knees the wrist where the first thing to bother me. An the compact drill was a life saver, an quicker. Was just wondering if there was a reason for that?

Steve if a carrier product has power shut off and when it’s turned back on threre is a call for heat the board automatically runs the blower for 90 seconds then starts the heating cycle. The board will also flash code #12.

Steve, I’ve been watching you for a while. You’re a good man. I’m in the field just as long as you are I have a question. Why didn’t you look at the nameplate on the furnace? Maybe the guy before you put a 3/4 hp. That’s why there was a 10 in there. That’s all he had in his truck and he forgot to put a 15

I have a 35 year old mid efficiency gas furnace. In 2021, the motor died one night and the house was chilly. I pulled out the motor myself. It took 3 days to find a replacement. I did the labour, and the motor still cost me about $285 CAD. Took 4 hours to change it, inc. time to vacuum the furnace, clean the flame sensor, change the capacitor, etc... Would've cost me over $800 CAD had I had a Pro do the job.
