A little crusty. A little rusty. The Steve Lav treatment made it all good again! Usually I see burnt ants or bugs under the contact surfaces of those contractors, and that shuts the unit down. But the coils do get weak with age. That'll do it too

@stalthalion6 жыл бұрын
Vic Villalta yu can test the cap.. run has a specific value start does too as well as run/start.. typically when a cap goes it swells up
@vicvillalta6446 жыл бұрын
PR4Y_F0R_PR3Y yes you can test the dual run cap. Just by the looks of it I would’ve replaced it or at a least tested it. Yea it’s an old system. He will probably be back next year to gas it up again. Idk I would’ve replaced it.
@stalthalion6 жыл бұрын
Vic Villalta the exterior shell of the cap has nothing to do with the functionality.
@vicvillalta6446 жыл бұрын
So if you had all four tires bald on your truck would you leave them just because they still hold air or would you change your tires ??
@stalthalion6 жыл бұрын
Vic Villalta you are really reaching with this one bro.. you don’t over charge a customer period! if the part is fully operational you let it be. The unit was running properly once the contacts were replaced. Should he have checked for proper resistances sure, but to simply replace a part that is working because of weather age because it is in the weather is not effective nor efficient. Now if the capacitor was swollen or if the degradation of the shell was to the point of was deteriorating this would be a different story. Also if there was signs of Arcing yes replace.. if you are in the industry I’ll tell you now you won’t get far with clientele if you are randomly replacing and charging customers for working parts. #facts

I am confused. The standard superheat should be between 8 - 12 degrees fahrenheit and it should be set to 10 degrees superheat why is it okay to leave it at 14 - 16 degrees superheat? Why not check for a leak and fix it? Just wondering?
@sknight03916 жыл бұрын
Thatman There is no "standard superheat". It's all based on ID. Wetbulb & OD. Drybulb. The higher the wet-bulb temperature inside the higher the "target" superheat number will be. When Steve took his readings at the return with his UEI psychrometer he got 68° wet-bulb. It was 85° outside which put him at a "target" superheat of 19° To be in the 8 to 10° range that you mentioned, you would have needed a 62° wet bulb inside(meaning Much less moisture in the refurn air stream.) If you would have driven the system down to 8° superheat you probably would have been overcharged by about 1 pound of refrigerant and then you would have been pumping liquid refrigerant to the compressor. Not good! Here's a picture of a quick reference superheat chart that you can screenshot and save to your phone 👍 ⬇️ Superheat chart: photos.app.goo.gl/7tYE2KjgTzeEPAbV8

There's an old formula for ya. Indoor wet bulb x 3 -80 - outdoor dry bulb at the center of the condenser ,divided by 2
@thatman53456 жыл бұрын
What's OD? My trade school professor says that all HVAC & Commercial Refrigeration units has to be 8 - 12 degrees superheat. So I would have to read the wet bulb temperature inside the building and the dry bulb outside of the building to get my target superheat for that unit? I noticed if you have 75 degrees wet bulb and 55 degrees dry bulb you would have a target superheat of 45 degrees, that's way to much. In our classroom textbook it says that superheat must be 8 - 12 degrees for all units.
@jerazima6 жыл бұрын
Thatman Are you confusing superheat for subcooling? Most txv's are setup to run between 8-12 degrees subcooling, which is the difference between the temperature of the liquid refrigerant at whatever pressure it's running (p/t chart) and the temperature of the actual liquid line(thermometer)
