Is your AC unit not cooling the house enough and not getting to the set temperature on the thermostat? Here are 20 reasons why your home air conditioner may not be blowing as much cold air as it should be. Many of these cooling problems are actually not major problems, such as simply replacing a furnace filter. I also referred to a few videos, I included links to those below:

Just closed on our house a week ago and the AC went out last night in the middle of a heat wave! Was able to diagnose, source an equivalent part and fix the problem by 11am today! ( I got lucky, it was a bad capacitor). You have saved me over $500 and can now maintain and understand my system. Subscriber well earned. Thank you!

Thanks for your experience and time to teach us this information. You obviously know your stuff and try to make it clear to understand. Thanks for your informing your viewers about turning down the T-stat trying to make it colder faster. I've found on many occasions the unit iced up due to the system trying to overcome the heat load, never shutting off.

Our unit is about 8 years old and ran perfect. The fan outside started making noise, then stopped, gave it ‘stick jump’ and it ran. Then the compressor stopped. Watched your video, bought two capacitors. Changed out one in the backyard. Turned the unit on and work it did! Thank you!

I installed a replacement coil on my unit by myself. After being quoted $50 for 1 pound of coolant. Then the A/C man wanted to replace my entire air handler for $4200 because to coil was leaking. I saved myself about $4700 doing the job myself. The system works great now. I appreciate your videos. I have learned a lot from them.

So you got the replacement coil, refrigerant, and all the tools to properly do a change out of a coil for free? Otherwise you didn't save $4700. Makes for a nice story but isn't true. What did the guy quote you for just the coil change? A coil change out is usually around $1400 - $1900 dollars depending on who quotes it and how much refrigerant is lost. Buying a jug of refrigerant, a vacuum pump, a torch set, the replacement coil, a set of guages, a temperature clamp, the odd and end tools for removing the old coil and putting the new one in; that all costs money. Did you also change the filter dryer on the outside when you changed the coil? Bet you didn't, but you're supposed to. It's working right now, sure, my suggestion is save up all that money you "saved" though because you're going to need it. Yeah. You saved yourself maybe $500-800 bucks after you got everything you needed to do the change out yourself. You didn't get a warranty for that coil though. No chance is any manufacturer giving you a replacement if there's a problem. So sure, you saved some cash and that's great. But let's not paint some crazy BS story because you could have had a professional replace it for not a ton more than it would have cost you to do *correctly* and you'd have gotten a warranty. I can promise you if I roll up and you tell me something along the lines of "yeah I changed the coil myself" I'm either walking away immediately or I'm charging you a ton. Because how can I trust anything you did? You're going to be the exact same person who is either going to be over my shoulder the entire time I'm trying to work trying to get me to give you free advice to try and do the work after I tell you what's wrong or you're going to be calling and complaining because I can't fix what YOU broke without changing a bunch of stuff. I don't want either of those headaches. Change a cap yourself, heck change a fan motor yourself. No customer should be touching a coil change out though. Don't like the price quoted? Try a different company and ask them to quote you just a coil change out. Most quotes are free.

@@mythrol let me guess. You own a AC shop? If you can't add simple numbers it's your fault. I said he wanted to change the entire airhandler out. ($4200). The system was completely empty and at$50 per pound, you do the math. (If you can). I did not need the recovery tank because the system was empty. Yes, I bought the manifold gauge set, mat torch, 2 dryers, coil, 25 lbs of 410a. TXV, for about $800. Why do you slam people you don't even know and say you can't do that job? You think I care about a warranty if I installed it? You can pay all the money you want to your air conditioner man, your choise. But don't come on here acusing me that I could not do the job. I can do a lot of things I'm sure your not aware of. But you should not bare false witness against people. Especially when you In fact... Do not know.

Omg you are sooo good at explaining things to check when diagnosing rather than just explaining what could be wrong, you tell how to check things that people often leave out. Explaining how on really hot days (what I’m currently experiencing in TX) it could take a whole day to cool rather than maintain if you let the temp get too hot. What to look for if you suspect Freon is a problem. So helpful and Thank you!

Thank you SO much! You were my KZbin mentor yesterday and it took most of the day, between watching KZbin, Googling, trips to the hardware store for parts. I'm not the typical demographic of someone who fixes AC units, shall we say. But finally through process of elimination, mostly from your video series plus a few helpful bits from others, fixed my AC - it turned out to be a $10 canister fuse blown at the wall shut-off next to the AC unit. In between, I had to learn how to use a multi-meter to read voltage, watch your safety tips like with handling the capacitor etc. I surely would have been better off paying a professional rather than take all day myself, but there was a huge backlog and we are in a heat wave, couldn't wait. So this was life-saving. Thank you for your great informative series.

One thing I might add is to make sure the blower motor is spinning in the correct direction. A recent airflow issue I was having was caused by the blower motor turning in the opposite direction after replacing the blower module. I was able to reverse the polarity (swapped the positive and negative wires at the motor connection to the module) and got it to spin in the correct direction. Airflow was restored and AC was getting to temp again.

I find your videos very informative. I’ve got an issue that may stump you though. Just had a new condenser installed yesterday on the house I rent. Tech can’t get the split in temps between intake and vents above 13 degrees, says it should be 22 degrees. We’re experiencing an excessive heat warning at this time with daytime highs over 110 degrees. In the past, with old condenser, and r-22, the temp of air coming from vents was in the mid to upper 40s. I’ve not seen the temp from vents go below 53 degrees yet with new condenser and new refrigerant type. This system does have a refrigerant leak and the source was not found prior to the new install. It’s possible the leak may be fixed with the condenser replacement, but so far, we don’t know. The tech adjusted something today that did reduce the humidity felt in the house (felt like a swamp cooler), and seemed to increase airflow, but air doesn’t feel colder. Is this just how the new refrigerant works? Seems less efficient. I would appreciate any input. Thank you for your time. Barbara

You should become HVAC instructor. You made your explanations easy to understand for everyone without HVAC knowledge. I've been trying to learn HVAC myself but most videos out there talk too much but barely going to the point, find out issue and solutions. You have experiences inside and out, you can talk all day without the scripts. Most issues usually happened out there with relay, capacitor, cleaning the coil, replace thermostat battery. You have instructed how to replace these and save homeowners' a lot of money. Very well done and thank for the videos. One issue I found myself before that when weather transition from the Fall to Summer, the outdoor AC unit didn't run when it first start, I just shut down the A/C breaker and turn back on, somehow the power kicked in the unit and the unit start to run and everything are fine. Sometimes the tech got lucky but it took care the issue and save the money.

It's after 5:00pm I have a great AC guy but he's going to charge me $$ just to look at it. I did most of what you said, checked the filter, it was ok, fresh batteries in the thermostat and I had a spare run capacitor - not going to pay 75 dollars again for my ac guy to replace it. Air out of the vent dropped from 85 degrees to 65 degrees. Thanks... we are sleeping cool tonight. Keep of the great work.

Word of Advice TV No joke! It’s my moms AC unit I was peeking at for “fun” and allegedly she’s had nothing done to it since 93 when it was installed (other than annual spray down of the outside coil). Unbelievable. Delta T shows 18 degrees. Unit sits in the shade. Maybe that has helped. Hope your house selling and work is going well!
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a little beast! Yeah, as far as I know, if the unit is not baking in the sun all day it does help it last a bit longer. The house is already sold but the closing process can take up to 60 days and we won't be moving until then. The corona virus has really made this process a lot slower... So just waiting now.

Great Channel! Clear & realistic instructions wrapped in sound advice. Here's my story of why my AC wasn't keeping up as we start this summer: I changed my motor out this past winter (with your good counsel). I used a universal replacement motor and naturally, even though my old motor was on the medium speed, I naturally figured if medium is good and worked for 15 years, then surely "High" is better - can anyone relate? As usual, more is not always better, I over powered my coils. The air was blowing over the coils so fast the humidity stayed with the air all the way into the house; as I figure it, the air wasn't around the coils long enough to "cool off".. Bottom-line: I switched the black wire with the blue wire and it's back on medium speed. Now she's keeping up just like she always has - Go figure! Kudos to my original install team - their calculations were apparently "spot - on"! (smile)

I love you, regular homeowner here. You helped me troubleshoot and fix my AC for less thank 50 bucks, vs doing an quote emergency service call since its the weekend. my capacitor was bad. i have zero hvac experience but im mechanically inclined. Just tested it and picked a new one up at a local part shop for 28 bucks you saved me at a minimum 500 bucks possible more with labor.

I cannot thank you enough for this detailed information. My AC stopped cooling the house last night. Now I know what may be causing that. During the middle of the night I heard a very loud knocking noise outside of where the air-conditioner unit is located. At first, I thought someone was knocking on my steel siding. Then I listened to hear if the AC was still running and it seemed to be. When I checked the unit this morning, I noticed that the fan seemed to be working fine but did not hear the compressor turn on. My HEIL unit is 22 years old but is only used about 2-3 months in the summer as I live in Minnesnowta. You are such a blessing for sharing this information!

Had a partially plugged up condensate drain that caused intermittent hvac operation. Water would build up until it lifted the float of the Safe t switch, shutting the unit down for five minutes until the tstat built in delay would allow it to restart, at which time the build up of water under the safe t switch would have drained out .but temp on tstat was higher than set point. I caught it when I looked at the tstat when the safe t switch had triggered and it was blank from loss of power. Cleared the drain line and all was good.
