You brush it down and vacuum it out because soot acts as a insulator causing you heat transfer efficiency to decrease dramatically. You change the filter because it’s a filter. Oil flow has nothing to do with it. Your flow will remain the same, but your pump pressure will change. What do you wait for a nozzle to plug or a filter to be full of sludge before you change it? That’s like saying oh the nozzle is still spraying so no reason to change that. I’m amazed that you can tell by eye on a boiler that the smoke is at a trace and that you o2 and C0 and CO2 are correct. The shister is you for doing a half ass cleaning.

To me when I was landscaper I took care of plants that some thought needed to be replaced, they were rose bushes stayed small for years until I came along and pruned them to help them breathe, they quadrupled in size and never had to be replaced. These days I am a sales person, now I don’t tell people to buy everything instead I do respect their decision and budget, heck over time I learned to pick up on certain ques when one is questionable. But over all I do not sell if they don’t need or want. Selling people what they don’t need or want will often make them go “I going somewhere else”, so I do respect how Steve operates since it better to care about what a customer needs and discuss rather than waste their money they didn’t agree to 😂. Just had to say my piece.

But oh boy if you would have cleaned the boiler and it didn't need it those same people would come back whining why'd you clean it if it didn't need it. Contradicting themselves. I hate the smell when i am working on one that's a real leaka with glycol. On related to that statement, My father has it in his boiler also because he has his garage floor and sidewalk done. Coolest thing ever, nothing like working on a car with a warm floor and can't beat when it snows he opens the sidewalk valve and it melts the snow and the water evaporates.

Hello Steve, I wanted to comment on your rant about all the "professional" techs leaving the comments about what you should have done. I am 45 presently and started working for a company that only serviced oil burners when I was 17, the owner always preached to me that we fix what is necessary and check full operation at the end of the job. We NEVER sell or perform unnecessary repairs just because we are there, that is what separates someone that knows the equipment and one that just goes through the motions and is a greedy bastard. Keep up the great honest work, cheers from L.B.I.N.j.

Steve, we all greatly appreciate your videos. So many companies talk about the shortage of tradesman and how it's only getting worse. Your videos in particular have helped train me. Please keep them coming... Question for you from a different video: Do you have anything against air admittance valves on drains? Great job, Mr Lav. To all plumbers and Heating techs out there: What is your preference or standard on domestic coils that are no longer being used. Do Y'all leave them open ended, cap them, keep them filled? Twice in 21 years I've seen them cut, but not capped. I looped them and connected a prv with a backflow. My thought was to keep it pressurized in case the coil starts to leak. Just asking, I know there's no right answer.

So I guess HVAC techs don't change the filters in their car when they change their oil? How long does it takes to check? Flow rate does not determine the filter... the pump will pump harder if clogged or slightly clogged putting undue stress in pump.

Boilers don't dry out the air like furnaces, they hold a more even temp, normally quieter, versatile.. versatile. Zone rooms or floors. Heat radiators, baseboards, kick space units under cabinets in ceiling or walls, hanging unit heaters, domestic hot water heater, radiant heat in floors, towel racks, heat hot tubs, or pools. You can even put a hot water coil on your air handler to make it like a furnace. my father did his garage floor (warm floor to work on car is awesome), sidewalks (melts snow and ice evaporates water). You can do any mix or all the above, at the same time from your existing boiler.

@chrisE815
@chrisE815 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't watch the video yet but isn't it the size etched into the nozzle?
@--harry_
@--harry_ 2 жыл бұрын
The burner has a plate or the boiler has a plate with the nozzle size. Some times it will list a few sizes based on based on heating capacity. The size is broken down to 3 things, the flow rate, angle (I think it's was 80°. 80 degree angle), and cone spray pattern (solid cone, hollow cone, semi solid, and a few others). The 1.25 was the flow rate, the gallons per hour. That affects the btus of the unit. If I put a .65 in it, it might run a long time and never get the water temp up to 180°f. If you put a 1.50 in it it might heat too fast and short cycle on and off. Also furnaces may trip out on high temperatures if the blower can't move the air out of the heat exchanger fast enough. The angle is normally based on the shape of the firebox. You wouldn't want a big spray in a small box.
