In today's video I am doing a gun review on the Steven's 555 E Over/Under Shotgun. I have owned this gun for 2 seasons and I own it in 20 gauge, I highly recommend this firearm and love it so much.

Just bought this 20ga for grouse season. Bought a 12ga a month later I loved it so much.

I was thinking bout getting it in 12ga initially, but so far I have no complaints really with the 20ga, it's my first ever 20ga, so happy with how it shoots.

With 20 gauge 3 inch TSS loads that over and under can drop large geese and Sandhill Cranes at extended ranges. Francis E. Sell used double barrel 20 gauge 3 inch magnum lead shot shells for long range waterfowl hunting in the long ago past and proved you do not need a 12 gauge.

I run this gun once in a while for waterfowl but very rarely, I use bismuth instead of steel and it's like you're shooting lead again, Bismuth is gonna be more affordable then Tungsten so I prefer to use that.

I’ve had one for the last 6 years, not the E version. Nice gun and handles a 1oz slug fairly well for being such a light gun. My trigger does not have the issue yours does.

Thank you for that info, I was wondering if it was a me issue or what, I am gonna see if theres a way I can fix it.

@@LakesnWoodsOutdoors I went looking for grouse this afternoon and took the 555. I have a SxS which I usually use. The 555 has a little bit of play but only a 1/16 of an inch or less. Not really noticeable. Not luck with the birds, just a pot shot at a rabbit in thick stuff. 🤷‍♂️ can’t get em all

@@frostyriffs Yeah that's for sure, gonna get out here this week for some rabbits and grouse, also the trigger isn't always an issue, I just find it to be sometimes when my hands are cold or when I am jittery lol

Great review! In the past I was looking for an over under because they are light weight. I think I read from Randy Wakeman that it is hard to find a quality sub $1,000 over under or side by side because the most important thing it should have is a steel receiver. Do you know if that is correct? Maybe he was just talking if you were going to use the gun for skeet shooting and put thousands of rounds through it? What do you think? please do more shotgun reviews. thanks

I go out and put 100s of rounds through my gun every season and I haven't had any issues, they really hold up strong, maybe it's not the most important thing, but having a steel receiver will increase the cost I believe, but having a steel receiver also would throw off the balance of the gun, so the entirety of the gun would have to be rebalanced so it's stable, which means adding more weight to the front and stock and adding other components, I so far think this gun is outstanding, been only 2 years but I have already put 500-600 rounds through it and I can't complain

One of the main cons of that gun is the issue of both barrels firing at the same time. It’s been one of the biggest complaints from guys in forums in the States. The trigger issue can be fixed by a local gun smith. They can reduce the trigger pull. Nice gun for the price.

I've never experienced both barrels firing at once personally, I feel like that is always a concern in the back of everyone's mind when firing O/U's.

My partner has one of these (kofs SXE) in 12 bore, she is 5’ 3” and even when using 28gms load she has nowhere that much muzzle flip/recoil. I would look at your weight distribution, more on the front foot. Please be careful when the gun is closed, try not to throw it over your shoulder.
@LakesnWoodsOutdoors

The point of the recoil test wasn't to show how much recoil I can take, it was to show how much recoil the gun is possessing, depending on the load, if I step into it like I normally do when hunting, you can see in my videos there's practically no recoil when I shoot, I intentionally allowed my body to take the recoil in this video to give people an accurate representation, though overall, the recoil was extremely light and I think majority of people can take it.

Everything about it is great, it's a great price, very light and easy to lead birds, great ejections and very light recoil, only issue I have with mine is the trigger pull, but it seems like it's more of a me issue, overall I love this gun and highly recommend it!

Recoil is not based on shot size. Its based on velocity and oz load
@LakesnWoodsOutdoors
@LakesnWoodsOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I gave the examples based on shot size because obviously depending on brand, type of shell, metal type etc they will have different velocity and density. So knowing the shot size gives a rough idea of the recoil since majority of shells will almost always have a very similar velocity and density. Everyone shoots something different so I can't speak for everyone, but I hoped this would give new buyers a rough expectation

on the fence about buying a non E 555 at Bass Pro, they have them on sale for $599, in 16 ga. What's the trigger weight like?
@LakesnWoodsOutdoors
@LakesnWoodsOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Even though I have this issue with my gun, it seems that others don't and I have read up that for some people, the trigger weight can vary depending on your clean up jobs, 5-6lbs is a good rough estimate but I honestly have no clue the exactly trigger weight, honestly though if it's on sale, you're getting a great gun for your money and odds are you're not going to have the issues that I have
