Remove the recoil pad. there will be a hole in the rear of stock, look down the hole with a flashlight to see what kind of bolt head down there , most likely a slotted bolt head, use a long screwdriver to remove the bolt that holds the stock to the receiver and there you go.

Think it is a slot and 10mm common on many of these.

My best friend, back in the ‘60s had a Stevens 20 gauge double that his dad bought him at Sears. I had an H&R single shot that my mom bought me at K-Mart that I remember, cost about $39.99. We were both 15 and walked down the road to the woods every day after school to hunt and shoot cans and bottles. My friend was deadly with the side by side. He didn’t miss. Ever since then, I’ve had a high opinion of Stevens.

They are one of the best working man’s utility shotguns. I have 3 of the 311 models in 12, 16 and 20 gauges. Had the double 20 since 1967.

Remouve the recoil pad and use a long 3/8 extension with a suitable fitting socket 11/12 MM. unscrew stock bolt and pull receiver and stock apart, reverse procedures and tighten snug or 6/7 foot lbs

Thanks for the review. I’m an older adult and want to get started into waterfowl hunting and using sporting clays as a practice method and to enjoy time with my older sons (22yrs old). I saw this shotgun being advertised at Point Blank shooting range and thought I would check out a few reviews on youtube and stumbled on yours. I am a left handed shooter and I hear that this is a ambidextrous gun. I have already a 12 gauge Remington 11-87, but wanted something lighter and with the built in 2 shot limitation already built in without having to plug my Remington during hunting season! I also see that its pretty budget friendly too!

Yes it is Ambidextrous, I paid $550 plus tax for the gun. I dont hunt but I do use the gun regularly with our Highschool team, of course as a coach I am not shooting as much as the students. So far its performed flawlessly. Ive heard a few complaints about trigger issues but so far mine hasnt given me any trouble. I will update if and when it does. Thank you and good luck!

It does have a kick to it ,but it handles very nicely. Trigger pull is also very heavy , around 6 -7 lbs.

To remove the receiver, unscrew the butt pad (hidden throughout the rubber) then a long flat screwdriver to reach deep inside the rear wooden stock to unscrew from the receiver.

Interesting video, I've had my 555 for a couple of months now and put a good number of rounds through it. Mines the 20 gauge and does auto eject, so not sure if the newer models do. Also can't figure out how to disassemble the trigger/firing mechanism.

Take off the recoil pad with a Philips screwdriver pushed through the pad where the screws are. Get a ratcheting wrench with an extension and a socket that fits the nut. Loosen the nut and remove it and then pull the stock from the receiver.

@therubenchannel7792

Its ambidextrous. Im the only leftie on our team, our right handed students shoot this gun and have good results. Allow me to add this, Its a low budget gun by most standards. If you plan on shooting thousands of rounds per year Id look at spending a little more. Im curious to see where the threshold is on this gun, Im about 2000 rnds in it and still going great. Sometimes you take a chance on a budget item and it works out great. Sometimes not! Good luck in your search!

I have a 555 take the butt pad off there will be a hole inside you will find a long bolt you will need a ratchet and a long extension to get the head on the bolt I think there is a 10mm and just unscrew it lift the breach off then you are there to reassemble just reverse this process good luck

Good review! Keep going! In general, the receiver and stock are not separable. Probably a good gunsmith can do it, but I wouldn’t attempt it. Did you ask Savage?

I have not contacted savage arms about it. I will though. I was worried about the sand getting into the trigger assembly but it doesnt show any signs of it. I'll give them a call and see what they say. Thank you!

Stock does come off - under the butt plate. You will need a long socket extension and a # 10 mm socket. Be careful - the retaining pins for both the hammers and firing pins fell right out when I took the stock off. They are loose as a goose in the receiver. I was having trouble with double fires. Both barrels at the same time.I hear it is caused by weak sear springs. I called Savage , and they won't sell you parts or tell you any information , other than to send the gun back to them. I tried dry firing it with empty shells , and can't duplicate the problem.Numrich Arms has nothing in parts for it. Another issue - the retaining plate between the firing pins gets worn from the shells scraping it.. They told me it needs to be fitted in. Having second thoughts about this gun.

@@robertboreman7672 thank you for the information. Luckily I havent experienced any of that! Being a sub 600.00 gun there are going to be issues, hopefully they wont show up for awhile on mine. If I were a competition shooter or serious hunter I'd spend the money on a high quality gun. "You get what you pay for " certainly applies here, its fun though every now and then when something cheap works out! Good luck with your gun.

@@therubenchannel7792 taking the reciever of the wood is an easy job. Like others have stated, remove the recoil pad and there will be along bolt threaded into the receiver. This will separate the two. It's good to familiarize yourself with this process as shooting in the rain will necessitate this. Great review I'll subscribe to your channel. I've got both the 28ga and 410 in this shotgun and I'm very pleased. I also live in TN, I'm in Clarksville however. Best of luck. Shoot strait.

* Boy, if that gun fits a left handed shooter, I don't think it would do the same for a right handed one. You might want to try this; take your normal shooting stance, and with your eyes closed shoulder your gun, then open your eyes and see what your sight picture looks like. Most mass produced shotguns are stocked to fit an average right handed shooter, sort of. Most of these shooters will fit themselves to their guns, not the other way around. Unless your gun went for a swim, there shouldn't be any reason to take the stock off. The problem with doing that is not in the taking off, but in the putting back on. I'd check with the manufacturer to find out how much torque is needed. To much pressure can result in a split of the stock at its head.

I have a 555e and from day one I had to stop hunting due to thumb pain. You cannot Switch barrels nor switch safety raising to the shoulder. Went back to dealer and was told it would work itself in. The next to last days of Dove hunting California my oldest son decided to take gun apart. What he found was the cheapest safety system we had ever seen. He adjusted safety and had to file back material. I have a Pictures available. It only shoots from the bottom barrel and the selector does not work and neve has. It will only shoot from bottom barrel. Worst gun ever purchased. I own a Browning over/under Citori and love it. Because I love it and live in Nazi California I refuse to put steel shot through the barrel. My son bought this gun for me so I would hunt with my Grandson. Savage Stevens should be ashamed of their performance. I hate this gun.
