Stevens Pass | Double Diamond + Ski down Big Chief Bowl

Double Diamond is a CTEC triple chair, part of an up and over lift system. Installed in 1987, it provided access to the summit of Big Chief Mountain, as well as serve the newly added Mill Valley. It serves mostly expert terrain, which are very short trails, where one can lap back to the bottom of Double Diamond. The trail I took was Big Chief Bowl. The easiest way in is to ski down Double Diamond, take a short traverse, and ski down a steep narrow section, where one can access the wide open bowl. Stevens Pass didn't have good snow the day of this recording, but the snow here was much better than anywhere else, and hardly anybody was skiing it.

It is quite steep. Lots of steeps around Stevens. It can get crowded, due to the proximity to Seattle, but it's an adventure, and something worth exploring!

And for the people from Colorado, you would just love DOUBLE DIAMOND RUN on a DEEP POWDER DAY and I'm not talking in inches I'm talking in FEET, how about 3' Deep ! I use to run that chair on day's, very popular chair on a Powder Day.

I'm at home on my phone and this short video pop's up and their talking about Double Diamond Run and maybe Upper and lower I -5 run but they recorded THE BEST CHAIR ON THE MOUNTAIN, DOUBLE DIAMOND CHAIR,C-9,9-DRIVE.31 TOWER'S,151 TRIPLE CHAIR'S, 833 SHIVES,11/2" HAUL ROPE, LENGTH OF HAUL ROPE,(my guess) 4,083 FEET LONG AND MOVE'S 450 PER MINUTE,MOTOR ROOM : AUX DETROIT DIESEL V8.

The only possible way I could see a high speed lift come in here is if they replaced both Kehr's and Double Diamond with a two stage lift, having the same setup as Treeline Cirque at Alpine Meadows, with a mid-unloading station. This was an idea suggested to me by Collin Parsons, and I wouldn't want it to happen, seeing as the up-and-over lift would be no more, and that's a very special lift.
