Stevio It’s good to see you online. As a Single Pilot, I miss the old videos when it was just you and the Caravan or just you and the TBM (851TB). We single pilot guys like living vicariously through your adventures. Seeing you in the right seat feels unnatural.

I’m not a pilot but one that might interest you on a KZbin channel is missionarybushpilot. The videos I’ve seen have generally been very good. He lands on very primitive runways on the sides of hills and mountains in Papua New Guinea. The weather is something to see too, and it’s beautiful over there.

Appreciate Isaac allowing you to accompany him on these trips but wondering why he doesn't allow you to share the load. Those radio calls, checklists, and frequency changes are something he could very well let you handle so he can concentrate on flying the airplane. I know the CJ3 is single pilot certified but to make his workload a little easier should be a blessing.

In my opinion, your best video. I was born and raised in the former Panama Canal Zone. Great views of the Pacific terminus and the adjacent environs of all the places I lived near and all the schools I attended. Much has changed but some things remain the same. Thank you so much for producing and posting this video from those of us who once called that place home.

I lived in Clayton 20 years ago. I hung out at the TGI Friday's Amador... on the patio I could watch the ships in the canal, the planes landing at Albrook, and the chicas rollerblading on the causeway. The Biomuseo was nothing but a billboard. Great to see the neighborhood again, thanks for the video!

What a great video. And it brought memories, too. As a child I lived in Panama in the mid-60s, in the Canal Zone days. I vividly recall the rides along that causeway onto Amador beach. In the approach you passed almost exactly over my former school, Balboa Elementary, whose building now houses a branch of the Panama Canal administration. You landed on what was formerly Albrook Air Force Base, where I spent countless mornings in the swimming pool. I lived not far from there (about 1.5 nm NNW) in a lovely place called Cardenas right next to the current location of the US embassy. Cardenas was a child's paradise, all-residenial, with unfenced homes and lots of grassy open spaces where I'd play with Guillow's balsa wood gliders & rubber band-powered airplanes. Bicycles and skateboards were casually left on the driveways at the end of a day's play - and would still be found at the same spot, next morning. I spent some of my happiest days in Panama and have often fantasized of revisiting the country, but keep giving up on the idea as to not contaminate my childhood memories with the inevitable transformations and not so sweet realities of modern life which would certainly be found there.

I was born and raised in the Canal Zone Steve. You flew right over some of my old haunts. Nice! You landed at the old Albrook Air Force base. That runway was closed when I was there. They used to fly RC airplanes out there and I would ride my bike there and watch. Runway was not kind to those RC models when they crashed out. When I started driving, my parents gave me a Suburban. 3 speed manual with a V8. We would hit 100 mph on the runway and lock up the brakes at the end as there was a foot of water and mossy. We would be spinning like crazy all screaming and terrified. Then we’d do it again. Had a blast and survived. Great place for we Zonians to grow up there. Sure do miss home.

I lived in Cardenas from when it opened in AUG1962 to when we left in AUg1979. As you would know, it's just north and west of runway 10 where Isaac and SteveO landed. Appropriately enough, that township was the residential enclave for all FAA employees when the Canal Zone was a thing. What years did you live there? (The Los Rios pool was closer). 😊😊
@coriscotupi8 күн бұрын
@ I lived in Cardenas from 66 to 68. As far as I remember, our house was the only one in the neighborhood that was single-floor, and because of this it occupied a larger footprint than was the norm with the other, two-storey houses in Cardenas. It had a beautiful, curved driveway and at the time was the only house on the far east end, and on the south side of a of a 300-meter stretch of Wright street, meaning I had a huge "back yard" to play with hand-lauched balsa wood model airplanes. From what I see in Google, the street was later extended east past our house, and a few more houses were added. We kids would often play in the creek just off the backyard of the houses on the north side of Wright street. It was pretty shallow, but there was a spot where it formed a pool of sorts that was a little deeper. And from there, we'd hike (as far as we dared, LOL) along a trail that we called "the back road" toward Fort Clayton. It couldn't be more than some 500 meters long, but for 7 year-olds, seemed endless. Oh, and Los Rios. That was where I learned how to swim. I often fantasize of revisiting Panama and of course spending a few hours in the streets of Cardenas. Residents would likely find that very odd and probably call the cops on me, LOL

Stevio - In 1962 I spent a few weeks on Toboga Island in Panama. I was a field Engineer for Federal Electric Corp. division of IT&T and assigned to an Air Force Civilian Electronic Overhaul Unit at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. I was sent there to repair the TACAN Beacon on top of Toboga Island. It was used for approaches to Howard and Albrook US Military airports. I returned to Panama in 1964 during the riots to relocate that Tacan Beacon to the mainland in an old WW2 bunker near Gillards Cut in the canal. I was fortunate to get to a ride on a new ship from entry to exit of the canal. going through all the locks.

I'm a pilot and live in Panama. Obviously as civilians we don't use TACAN but the Taboga VOR is still used for Tocumen and Panama Pacifico (formerly Howard AFB). The Albrook airport, right behind my house btw, is 100% visual nowdays. We have kept a lot of the infrastructure from those days. The keys to my house have 'Property of the US Government' engraved in them since all these houses used to house military and government personnel.

I had to laugh Stevio when you said the controllers speak spanish real fast and slow for English. Back in around 2005 before I retired, I had a trip to Mexico City and the controller must have been an auctioneer on the side. When he called me about 20 out, I had to tell him that I heard him but that I have no idea what he said. he asked me why I did not understand and I told him that I was old and that old people do not hear fast. If you could, slow down your speech to something like warp speed 3. After that the radio chatter blew up with people laughing...including the controller, but he did slow down and did his best to insert a South Texas drawl. I ended up meeting him the next day and he said he got a big laugh out of it...and to this day, even tho I have retired, we are still good friends. I flew over the canal a few times on my way to Brazil...pretty neat. Fly safe and if you can, come out and scooter ride with us sometime. We have a big trip planned starting May 24 and you would be most welcome to go with us.
