Ironic how many rappers went broke and accused him of being a fake. Suge Knight is now in jail and Ice is still cashing checks. Dude played the long game and is still making bank while the rest of the clown show that hated on him are broke or in jail. Props to this guy.
@robfromvan
@robfromvan 7 ай бұрын
They just meant that he was more of a top 40 rapper or a pop rapper like MC Hammer or someone rather than someone that appealed to hip-hop’s core audience, similar to how KRS-One or Eric B. & Rakim would’ve.

@heathwasson7811
@heathwasson7811 7 ай бұрын
It's his whole background that was fake. I went to the cross town high-school from him in the suburbs up I35 north of Dallas. Lewisville/Carrolton area. My best friend's older brother was in the same class as him. He came from an upper class white-collar background, and just continued moving up. I've done well myself, owning my own 3D Design Firm, so no jealousy or hate here, just a reality check. He didn't come up on the back streets of Miami hustling to make a living as some lone gringo trying to survive in Cuban and Black dominated street gang society. Which is exactly how he was sold to the populace back in the 90s. In fact he was a white kid from a white mid to upper class neighborhood who got popular playing at trendy City Lights in Dallas, not some hip hop joint in Miami. In the end he's just a successful real-estate investor from a well-off stable family background, who's doing even better in today's real-estate market. What's ironic about that?
@darksaga80
@darksaga80 7 ай бұрын
@@heathwasson7811 I meant "fake" as in he wasn't a real hip hop artist. He was outed pretty early on as an upper middle class kid with a good upbringing. It was his background and being white and talking about street life that got him in trouble since rap in the 90s was all about writing about gang life, hustling and drug dealing. His whole hip hop career and image was a complex one to sort out. It's like now black rappers saying Eminem can't be the GOAT because he's white and his songs don't play in clubs - but said Ice was a clown because his music WAS in the clubs and therefore "not real enough" to warrant any praise. Hip hop is full of contradictions.

Ice has achieved the American dream and ge did it with hard work and humility. He took the time to learn and didn't try to be the smartest guy in the room. He took a lot of shit back in the day and didn't let it hold him back. And as far as Ice Ice Baby goes, people can talk all the shit they want, but when that song came out, it was THE hottest track out at that time and everyone was rockin that shit. One hit wonder or not, everyone knows that song. Creating something that people are still talking about 30 years later is no small feat. Much respect.

Whether people think it’s cringey or sad, going to self help seminars and reading books works wonders as long as you apply what you’ve learned. my brother in law is smart and buys real estate. He does that on the side from his regular job. Buys houses flips them or rents them out. He lives in college town too so he buys places and than makes his money back having their parents pay rent lol. He also only charged me $100 a month when I lived with him when i was 19 and he was in law school while married to my sister....Bless his soul lol...She alone is a some work. Gave me a job when I was in school...went around and would clean up and pick up the trash around his properties. Thank you Joel for believing in me.

His point on life insurance is so spot on. Your kids will get 100% of that even if you're millions in debt when you die. All they have to do is refuse to probate the will. The life insurance isn't part of the estate, so it will still go straight to your kids.

I love how people who came up decided to put this info out there instead of gatekeeping. All the info is out there but you just need someone to point in the right direction, we can moan and groan all we want about buying up properties ect but the big banks are doing it too, and at a much larger scale

Being a Gen X'er and remembering the end of the 80's and into the early 90's Ice was laughed about later into the future, but I have seen interviews before, he is definitely a down to earth guy who is very successful Ice will be remembered when other names will have faded.

Dude is a survivor! His success bothered a lot of people! They tried and almost destroyed him but he kept on pushing. And look at him now: chill, rich, seems healthy. A lesson to learn: No matter how long the night lasts, there’s ALWAYS a sunshine at the end of the road!

Much respect for Vanilla Ice. It's crazy how Vanilla Ice & McHammer were on top of the world once upon a time. However, one had a huge antourage and spend money like water while the other invested the money and became a bigger success away from the music business. Hearing this interview, it's great to see how Vanilla Ice matured into a very smart and savvy businessman.
