Had the pleasure of meeting G-Eazy backstage in Seattle at Bumbershoot 2016. He talked briefly about how he never knew what to do with his hands in pictures or when rapping. The conversation was less than 5 mins, but we were able to connect over the human experience and the feeling of insecurity that even people at the highest levels struggle with. I was shocked by how vulnerable he was able to be having never met me before. What he didn't know was that he was one of my main musical influences at the time.

I heard an amazing song by G-Eazy and was so impressed that I researched his entire catalogue and listened to every song I could find because based on what I heard I knew he had to have serious gems. I listened to probably 150 songs to find all my favs. I walked away with 30 undeniable pieces of absolute talent: flow, lyrics, schemes, passion etc. None of which were about love, romance or relationships. Shit that gives you Lose yourself vibes, or I'll be missing you vibes. He has proved to be capable of real rap shit. Not just poppy bs. He has that unique ability to really poor his human into a song. It's too bad most people seem awashed in his superficial, materialistic image when he's got songs that if he just released them on a Greatest Hits compilation he would be waaay more respected as people will find them much quicker than all the hard work I had to put into it. Trust me when I say this man can rap. He is not a pop act to me that makes music for your gf. He is a rapper. Me, him, and all the real ones out there know what I'm talking about. It is literally riveting to me when ever I hear or think about that bar he spit where he said he's made hits that'll never see the light of day [due to sample clearance issues probabaly idk]. But I believe him. Because I've heard virtually everyting he's made publically available, and while like 70% of it is not for me and I don't relate with it - there will always be that 30 song playlist I am a HUGE fan of. I will defend G-Eazy as a legit rapper til the day I die. I check for new songs monthly. Because I know Gerald Gillum has fire in him. 💯
