@@SteveReed33 Just progrss and new technology. The pilot cup 2 was relased early 2014 so it's almost 10 years old like the AD08. Seems like it could be the new halo tyres. Similar to RS4 in wear, treadlife and grip but actutlly good in wet as well as not having that dangerous snap out oversteer or sudden chronic understeer when tyres are not up to temp, in wet, worn or heat cycled. A052 still seems best for low speed sprint events where a softer tyre that gets to temp quickly is ideal although the AD09 is not that far off seems to have better high speed stability, wear and road use. Also the new Bridgestone RE-71 RS that just replaced the RE-71R seems like a good one to try. The old RE-71R seemed very similar to the A052 being very soft fast working and fast wearing although the new RE-71RS seems to now sit between the A052 and the AD09 now having stiffer sidewalls better high speed stability and better wear and street/wet usage as well as like the AD09 now also switching to an Asymmetric pattern for an easy rotate at the track. Might be worth trying those next 👍
@SteveReed33 Жыл бұрын
Re71 RS are definitely the fastest tyre in this category but they don't make them in 20 inch sizes so not an option for me without downsizing wheels. I plan to try A052's next but they are more expensive and don't last very long so I feel like these AD09's have struck a good balance.

Hey great video and I picked the AD09 for my car as well. Like them and have done 7 track days with them. The last two track days at speeds upwards of 200km/h at Road Atlanta I started noticing vibrations. I did some searching online and on Rennlist for the tires and also came across your post there mentioning the same. As they get used and worn, they can generate a vibration that is not there with the cup 2s. I was relieved when I came across your post to know its likely the tires and not something more serious. How many track days did you do with yours before you started noticing the vibration? Thanks!
@SteveReed336 ай бұрын
Hey, sharp observation! It depends on the speeds with those vibrations. I used a brand new fresh set at Bathurst last year and the vibrations started to appear towards the end of the first day, but only at very high speeds, I'm talking 250km/hr+ That same set has done about 7 track days now and they are only just developing some minor vibrations at lower speeds but it is quite minor compared to previous sets. I think its largely related to how the tyre is wearing throughout its life, and it can go in and out of balance. I would be interested to take a set that is vibrating to a wheel shop for a rebalance and see if that helps.
@sando826 ай бұрын
@@SteveReed33 Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, i thought about getting them rebalanced. Before that last track weekend wheels did come off as I got new Girodisc and pads installed. Wondered if that threw something off and if by now they're just heat cycled out. I have one track day this weekend and will see how they behave and go from there.

I have done about 6-7 track days now plus 2 drift days and they are just starting to reach the wear indicators. Lap times have dropped slightly but are still outperforming Cup 2's. I think the only reason I will ever buy Cup 2's again will be to have on the car when I sell it.

I have always used yokohama. The new ad09 is a superb overall tyre and they perform well in wet conditions and last longer. One of the best advantages over the Michelin is the steering feel and off centre sharpness. I do not use michelins for this reason as the sidewalls are too soft which gives a numb steering response and when driving at the limit the tyre feels like it wants to roll over and feels squishy. And they are overpriced for what they deliver. I bet off the bat, you would have noticed the better steering.
