Yeah I thought Paul Gilbert always played on short-scale guitars, but his Flying V seems full-size. Also I believe 24 frets do change the neck scale and makes some stretches much harder.

Yup, hard-ass riffs and solos don't mean the song is better. However, using hard-ass techniques gives you a wider choice, letting the song sound exactly as the artist wants it to. Plus, song sounds more original. Lastly, if I had to choose between a song with a guitar solo (difficult) and a song without solo (or some easy Seven Nation Army solo), i would definetly choose the difficult one. Difficult riffs often do sound better.

I’ve struggled with the gothic octave by George Lynch. My fingers are not quite long enough so I had to alter it and make it into a tapping lick. George Lynch is a freakishly good guitarist so it’s really hard to play some of his licks and solos but studying them will definitely take your skill to a whole new level.

Hey Stevie, I’m not sure if other guitarists count this as a big stretch but in Ozzy Osbourne’s Bark at the Moon right at the end of the opening riff you have to bar the tenth fret on the b and g strings with your fourth finger while you’re playing the fifth fret on the d string with your first finger.

Is it even possible to have so small fingers (or simply having such a terrible stretching) that you can only reach 3 frets? I mean, when I was in acoustic guitar lessons, my teacher taught me some finger control exercises, all of them needed me to put each finger of my left hand in each one of the first four frets, with the possibility of putting my pinky in the fifth if needed. I could complete them without pain or any uncomfortable feeling, so I know I can stretch to five frets. And I have really small hands as well (not to mention I'm not even tall, 5' 7" and matching hands, yet I still reach five frets)

@@bri613 Probably. Because, in theory, the minimal stretch anyone should have is four frets (one finger of your left hand in each fret). Reaching a fifth fret this way is not comfortable, but should not be painful. And, again, I also have little girl hands.

Lord Baktor you should check out Chris Polands stretch. Its well documented he had some kinda hand injury in his childhood that ended up making his left hand have about a 2 inch longer stretch.
