Also a father figure he probably lacked in his life even though they are probably the same age. That officer gave SERVICE to his community, like they are expected. This is how most cops are though, they sure as hell aren't in it for the money. They want to see the community they serve/grew up in prosper.

I used to know one police officer and after taking a report from a person who had money stolen which they were about to buy weekly groceries with went around to the persons house after work with a heap of groceries. To best of my knowledge it is not common knowledge what they did. People would be surprised if they actually knew all the things that went on.

I want to point out something real quick. When you come from nothing, even a small gesture of someone buying you a car seat for your child, can be life changing. It shows that what others take for granted & come so easily to them, others will appreciate immensely. Not all cops are bad, just some have fallen into the trap. I have had bad experiences with police but there’s always bad apples in a bunch. Just like u have a few mean co-workers &/or a bully supervisor, there’s always going to be some that fall into a bad work ethic. Sometimes the entire team has fallen unfortunately, you just have to know when to get out. Good job to this officer who has a sense of humanity left in him & to the guy who appreciated the gesture so much, he told his story for everyone to hear.

@Felicita Rodriguez - So how is it that I'm labeled a "racist" just because I'm an old white guy? And this all comes from people who don't know me. And now, even from a few that do. And they also know much of my history! In my early years I dated everyone. It didn't matter. Red, yellow, black, white, blue with orange racing stripes! I did marry a white woman and after fifteen years God stole her from me. (That was three and a half years ago and I'm still angry about it.) I started dating again two years ago. For about six or seven months I was seeing a beautiful black woman. I was starting to think I had found another "keeper" when her life events made her have to move away. We still talk from time to time. I have recently started seeing a lovely lady from Venezuela. We'll see where this goes... I was raised by my white parents, but also by a black couple my father worked with and became friends with. I was at their home every other weekend and their kids were with us on the opposite weekends. This gave our parents time alone together. I have recently lost the last of my four loving parents (Willie and Mary, James and Virginia), and I am still in close ties with my four "siblings". Twenty-two years ago I started a new job and became friends with a black co-worker. At this point in our lives when (God forbid) something happens to us, we are in charge of settling each other's affairs. So, with all of this, please explain how I can be called a racist.....even by a few people who DO know much of my history! These people seem like they want to strike out at everyone that doesn't look like them. Almost like a desperate batter swinging at every pitch, just trying to get a hit instead of waiting for the one he knows he can slap out of the park!

What a great example of Life. Two men who can look at each other in a whole different type of way but chose to see each other the same way. With all officers should do see a need never a flaw. Great job this father talkin to this officer about his vulnerabilities and a great job of this officer seeing a need. Yes all officers have a duty to protect and serve. I love what this beautiful brother said this officer could have made my life ten times worse but he chose to help me. I think we all need help sometimes. Bravo to these beautiful men

Being a police officer for 35 years, this is not an unusual case of how police treat citizens. As the officer stated he wanted to remain anonymous as thousands of police officers show this kind of compassion and kindness everyday without and not wanting to be recognized for it . From buying food, clothing , Christmas presents we all have done it as there is always that one time when a situation gets the best of our hearts. I want to thank all of you for your kind comments and thumbs up for my reply. With every job there will always be a bad seed that tarnishes our commitment to serve and protect. I'm sure every police officer has that one special story in their career that reminds them why they have chosen this profession. Be safe everyone.
