A great interview - you let Shane do all the talking, and only spoke where relevant for the viewers, which is so important!

I picked up the Matthew Sweet AAA rm "trilogy"; Girlfriend/Altered Beast/100% Fun and they are mind-blowingly good. I tossed my Joe Jackson Night & Day og's after hearing Intervention's 2016 AAA rm as it is the reference for that genre bending pop masterpiece. Such a great label...excellent interview!

Great show Steve. I found the transparent-colored vinyl information interesting. Nice to see a label like this pressing different titles.

APOCALYPSE NOW was the first-ever 5.1 film, a mix like no other and still amazing even after the Dolby Atmos upgrade, but not only did those 6 magnetic stripes haver Dolby A-type analog noise reduction, but the sound was all mastered with DBX noise reduction. No other film before or since has been and later, the REDUX edition was issued in real three-strip, dye-transfer Technicolor prints. The older 70mm blow-up prints, like any great 35mm shoot, brings out more from a 35mm negative than a 35mm print can and Coppola shot it big. He almost shot the film in IMAX at one point, but he used Technovision anamorphic lenses and equipment (the company later bought out by Panavision) and all that makes it additionally incredible!

IF Shane reissues the Phil Spector Xmas record, do it in STEREO since the stock mono (with no dynamics) is so commonplace. I think the last stereo pressing was on Apple worldwide, or a UK only release in the early 80s.

I totally agree about the LP being outside the sleeve when it is being posted. My fear is that if I store my LP outside of the sleeve on a shelf and they are tightly packed, that the actual sleeve seam will get squashed.

I store mine in the jacket, the way intended! To each his/her own of course, but if you're careful and don't slam the LP into the jacket, you should be ok! I take the record ⏺️ out of the protective inner to play it and back when I'm done! Then put it carefully back in it's jacket! No reason you should store them too tight!

I keep my LPs in their sleeves as well. I am getting to the stage where I have no room left for any more vinyl. Loads on the floor up against a wall, until I can rectify the situation.

Those two Judee Sill albums alone justify Shane's madness LOL. The Murray Head 'Nigel Lived' disc is pretty hot too.

Heh, yeah that was great Steve! But, just a tad of Ball-Busting if I may (HEY, it's been a while! 😁) Yes, as @91paster mentioned below, you did indeed allow Shane to talk freely was very little interruption, which was great! BUT... towards the beginning, he was telling a very interesting story about one of the artists that he dealt with and what happened, and you derailed him by some comment someone made and he NEVER got back to that story and I really wanted to hear what happened. But, that was only one time. I would just humbly suggest, try not to get distracted by someone's comment to where you jump in and stop your guest in the middle of a story, because we didn't get to hear how it turned out. But hey, you've been doing pretty damn good though there Steve! 😊

Just constructive criticism. Steve, I wish you would let your guest complete their stories before jumping in. It’s a common issue, and you cut Shane off so many times when he was right in the middle of a great story. I do appreciate your channel, but it’s very frustrating. Why have guests on if they can’t talk?

19:06 I kind of felt for Shane who was sharing this really interesting story (as told by Art Alexakis from Everclear) about part of the contract with Universal stipulated that vinyl releases were to be made and that they did so for the Sparkle & Fade and So Much for the Afterglow releases, but didn't for Songs From an American Movie due to vinyl 'falling out of favor'. The whole "but it's in the contract? and Universal replying "well, you could sue us" was an amazing insight... and I was waiting for Shane to continue on but he seemed to get interrupted. I was looking forward to the rest of the story, but Steve seemed tuned out, and intent on holding up and immediately discussing the packaging care. I get that audiophile people like to know that their purchase will be "shipped in the preferable way", but please let your guest finish before moving on to the next topic. NOTE: I couldn't watch this live tonight so I watched about an hour after it was posted.

As Art tells the story it wasn't the the band was out of favor, coming off SMFTA which was a multi-platinum smash. It was that vinyl sales by then were so in the tank. My understanding is that vinyl limped through the 90s with small numbers releases because Europe was much slower to adopt the CD, but that by 2000 that had changed a lot. But yeah, crazy story and I'm so happy that we could do yellow vinyl at the sonic level we all need these things to be!

My favorite roundtable of all the roundtables. The best roundtable guest you’ve had. Shane, thank you for taking your love of music and painstakingly making it as vibrant as the first time you heard your favorite band play.
