nobody uses the Lenco these days so use that behind a screw blown Hemi. Dont fix the fix the body. just put a new chassis under it with a cage and make it stupid fast and do stupid burnouts. I figure Ronnie would approve! lol

Steve = screw blower. Whatever power plant you decide to go with, put a screaming screw blower on top of that. Keep it “streetable”, and flexible, that you can go to a burnout pad, drag race it or put up some miles. Looking forward for this build!

You said it was an emotional project for you. So cutting it up for a burnout truck would be cutting up your memories it seems. I really like the sleeper upgrade drivetrain and keep it functional but crusty. The orange color, dual tanks and full trim still on it part got me excited. Personalized license plate 'RONNIE' seems like a no-brainer too.

Keep the exterior as is. Once it gets to the point of falling apart, you can always get new skins and paint it. Put it on a new chassis with some updated suspension so it rides good, stops good. Update the interior with Comfy seats, harnesses, center console w/ built in beer cooler. Screw blown BBC or Hemi. Slap an enormous radiator on it to keep it cool. And make sure you have cup holders...... It would be the baddest drag strippin, road trippin Ronnie ever created. Pretty sure it would put a smile on Pop's face when he's lookin down on you.

My stepdad was also named Ronnie, he passed away 3 years ago and I have his 98 C1500. In a way like you I have been very indecisive about what to do with it. I've narrowed it down to two options. One, basically a 90's era type build with a mild big block, with 041 ECM, 4L80E, rear disc brakes lowering blocks and spindles, stock appearing nice comfy reliable daily driver. Option two, 8.1 big block LS Whipple, 4L80E 4 link large wildwood brake kit, weight reduction and painted pretty. Because of your busy schedule you could make the frame, suspension and drivetrain pretty, put it back together then next year pull the bed and cab to finish it how you want. FYI areomotive makes a nice tank & pump kit if you go with fuel injection. Don't forget to ask your annoying sister for input. lol
@SteveJacksonRacing2 жыл бұрын
I like both of your plans! Thank you
@craigbowers40472 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I hope you build something that's everyday driveable that would make him smile. If it has dual tanks it probably has the camper package and a 12 bolt that can take a little power. Griffin has some good direct fit radiator choices, March has an accessory drive for about any combination you can think of, Dakota has a few dash choices and if you happen to use a 4L60E definitely consider the Sonnax gearset to change 1st & 2nd. Right behind the cab where the frame steps up the lower flange of the rails of that radius bend likes to flare downward. I think it's the weakest point of the 73-87 frame.

@@SteveJacksonRacing Yes Sir she's going to bad!
@arcilladiez2 жыл бұрын
If Mr. Ronnie liked carbs, I say keep it a carb setup. I think a big-inch-chevrolet-architecture pump gas motor with an overdrive trans would be really neat. Keep the accessory drive and keep ac. Wash it and don’t do anything other than that, cosmetically. Quiet exhaust. factory, widened rear wheels. Keep it looking like a washed version of what it is now. I think it would be really cool to see it scooting around Augusta as a driver, and that sort of concept would still be adequate power to be a burnout machine. Been watching you for what seems like forever at Jackson. I have memories of thinking the pink Camaro was stupid fast the first time I saw it. Best of luck, dude!

Only something Mr Ronnie would be very proud of rear end modded or full chassis modded on 315 drag radials, fuel injected small block or big blockwith possible Newnan near Hemi. With AC got to keep the AC. Keep it long wheelbase it handle better, multi diverged burnout truck, daily driver, drag truck, School pick up and drop off the kids. On the drive to the Sonic or ice cream. One big bad screw blown nightmare with a slick that paint job or not that's optional. Let's make it happen looking forward to see the end results if anybody can do it I know you can. Because you are the man that makes dreams a reality. Go Stevie goooo.

What ever you decide on for the truck, make sure to store all the original parts somewhere. You never know when you mite want to reflect back on something. For instance the seat. To most people it's junk, but you have memories of when Ronnie drove the truck with that seat just like that. Make good conversation pieces for grandchildren when that times comes
@mikewood14212 жыл бұрын
for what its worth...it seems like he genuinely LOVED the truck....I think, you should load it up with the hot rod stuff that is near and dear to your own heart as well....i.e. all of your absolute favorite go fast parts, and enjoy the shit out of it on some of those drive and drags.

I'm just about finished my grandfather's truck(first round of mods) and it was about the same shape and meaning to me. I decided to keep it close to how it was with a few things I always wanted. I shortened the bed and welded arches in with some ruddy Brown primer. I swapped in a 4l80e and an older TPI fuel injection setup I had from my S10 back in the day on the original small block using a old Haltec stand alone ecu. Now that it's running and driving I've been doing little projects with my oldest daughter as time and money allows and even if I had a unlimited budget I'd still keep it as a father daughter project all but with a better motor/drivetrain. It's a family truck with memories and I'd still want projects for us left to do together.
