I listened to and watched the Melbourne and Las Vegas performances successively in order to see which one, in my opinion, is the better. I would say the former, for to me it is more captivating, Stevie's voice sounds fuller, backed up by the MSO. The entire audience is quiet during this stellar performance; one can hear a pin drop. Everybody is in awe of yet another side of the Stevie repertoire, viz. singing in front of classical musicians, and she does so superbly. When she sings the first note in 'unchained' she holds it for 7 seconds (I clocked it), which sent shivers down my spine. Stevie has yet again worked magic.

I was there at this very performance at Caesars Palace totally in awe. I recall the audience was frozen still for most of the song. I don’t recall the video though. I must have been completely focused on her. Anyway it was a hell of an ending to the 2nd show that week. I wanted to go back again but all seats were sold out that week of her first Vegas residency shows.

That's awesome you wrote this. I just watched the Beauty & Beast performance with the Melborne Symphony recorded in February 2006. It was an awesome and spellbinding live performance. I gave it a total thumbs up and definitely one of the finest. But I wrote that I have seen her perform this live many times since it was released way back in June 1983 & that the Caesars Palace shows in May of 2005 were in my opinion her very very best live performances of B & B. I also said I'm pretty certain there are recordings of those shows on KZbin and bang here is one. You also said it was her very best live version. The studio version arranged by Paul Buckmaster was also amazing for a studio recording.

You are echoing my thoughts almost exactly. I also watched the 2006 performance right before watching this. I was in Vegas on this night and this is the first time I've been it since then. It was indeed a very powerful performance and I was more moved by it than any other I had ever seen. The combination of seeing the film unfold behind her and her spellbinding performance, coupled with the fact that I had not seen it performed live in several years left me in a puddle on the floor. Absolutely amazing.
