Agreed. The fact that the camera is zoomed in on Stevie's face while the tech is swapping guitars is part of it, but they often even miss the obvious change of guitar colors. That white Strat with lipstick pickups was a gift from Charley Wirz, the deceased friend of Stevie's who inspired the song, expressing how much Charley was missed.

I watched a video of someone who worked behind the stage during a concert and told a little story about SRV. Said after a song he stepped back stage to have a callus superglued back on his finger that he ripped it off during play. He strung his guitars with a custom set of GHS Nickel Rockers Strings that he helped to design. I watched another video of a guitar player who strung his guitar with these strings and could not play it very long as he said it ripped the shit out of his fingers. SRV's guitars had a special sweet sound like no other and his playing ability is unbelievable to say the least. R.I.P. SRV!

Anthony, love your reactions! You've got to check this one out. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN - Look At Little Sister || a string breaks ||. His E sting breaks around 2:44 and he goes on as if nothing happened and then changes guitars mid song without missing a beat. We're talking Top Tier Professional here. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Healey - 'Look At Little Sister'. This one is a banger that I'm sure you'll like. He plays along with Jeff Healey and Jeff is blind, but also plays the guitar in such an unconventional way that it will knock your socks off. Enjoy my friend and have a great day!

I've always been amazed that it was just one guitar doing all that!
Back story: The white guitar he switched to after breaking the string on the red guitar early in the song, was the guitar Charley Wirz, the owner ofCharley’s Guitar Shop in Dallas, built for him. Stevie wrote "Life Without You" as a tribute to Charlie after passed in 1985. He gives Charlie a shout out at 13:26 In this performance, Stevie also lost his tooth while playing part of the solo with his teeth. GOAT

I had tickets to see him for the first time on 9/23/1990 (2 days before my birthday). Needless to say, it broke my heart when he went down on 8/27/1990. I still have the tickets framed and proudly displayed in my office. GOAT

While attending law school in Lubbock, my dad used to go see him play at the original Stubb's BBQ. Stevie used a stack of 6x9 car speakers and would sit down at the table and play with the audience members sitting right there (keep in my it only had about 10 tables).
@bella-xp7qd3 ай бұрын
Charley was a white custom-made "hardtail" (non-tremolo, fixed bridge) "Stratocaster-style" guitar built by Charley Wirz, a friend of Vaughan's and owner of Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas. Wirz built it in late 1983, and placed a neck plate on it engraved "To Stevie Ray Vaughan, more in '84". THIS SONG HE WROTE THIS FOR HIS FRIEND CHARLEY WHO PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY.

You’re exactly right: natural talent plus an unbelievable work ethic. He took his guitar to school every day when he was growing up, talked his way into the clubs and onto the stage at night, fell asleep in class. He played most of the day and most of the night, every day, for many years. He loved it, said he could only communicate through his guitar.

Stevie Ray Vaughan covered a Jimi Hendrix song called Little Wing. I prefer the Live in Loreley Festival better than El Mocambo. You should also check out: Dirty Pool Live at Montreaux 1982; Tin Pan Alley Live at Montreaux 1985 with Johnny Copeland; Riviera Paradise, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Tightrope, Crossfire, Look at Little Sister, Couldn't Stand the Weather all Live at Austin 1989; Love Struck Baby, Ain't Gonna Give Up On Love Live at Daytona Beach 1987; Life Without You Live at Nashville 1987 ( I like it better than the Capitol Theater version of this song, he never played the same song the same way twice, live. After getting clean and sober the message in Nashville is closer to his heart).

You would have to watch/listen to a lot of super talented guitarists to make a personal ranking of favorites. There are many styles and genres to explore. Blues is one of my favorites when I am in the mood. Acoustic guitar is generally the more all around go-to sound I prefer but doesn't hit as well when I feel or want to feel energized. SRV definitely had talent, skill, and passion to perform. 🎸🤟

in "texas flood ,live, at el mocambo" i dont think hes was "flexing", other reactors have said that too, i think he was just so heartbroken & fvcked up on cocaine & whiskey that all the "behind the back " stuff is just pitr self expression, like, he felt so strongly about what he was trying to express for this woman, ,that playing "normally" wouldnt get his point across enuf....& this song's subject + his speech...this song is a whole other situation entirely...for 2 decades i thought " life without you" was about a woman & lost love but its about his friend who died...i really think all the so-called "flexing" stuff here is just him trying to do his friend's memory justice.... & then with the fancy guitar playing after the speech it was like "hey....listen, this is important"....srv wasnt really a normal dude...he was very humble & very genuine...after he got sober in 1986, he helped *a LOT* of people get sober those last 4 years of his life.....he never did anything half way

I think it's really difficult to give a top 5 or a "who's the GOAT" ranking since guitar is super subjective & all the best players are incredible in their own way, BUT, add Gary Moore to your next up list. Gives that same "magic" feeling that SRV gives. Europe had Gary, North America had SRV.
