I feel so sad for all those who never had the opportunity to experience SRV/DT live. I did 16 times. 30 plus years later I watch a video such as this and I watch in disbelief. Chills! Incomparable! I have never seen Tommy Shannon so animated! Don’t know for sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is shortly after Stevie met Janna. He is spending a lot of time looking off to the His right side of the stage. I saw the band first in 1984 til the end in 1990. Witnessed every stage of their live experience during those years. Stevie is playing like a man in love! Simply amazing!

D DiBona you got that right!! stevie will never be matched in my eyes This is right after he met janna. She just published a book about her and stevie. It is the most beautiful love story ever. You can tell just by all the personal pics she shared that have never been seen. She also did a lengthy interview on a podcast talking about stevie. Stevie did always have an eye for beauty.
@daviddibona74886 жыл бұрын
M Medina he sure did! The stage of his career after he met Janna was such a beautiful transition to witness! I actually have an autographed copy of Janna's book. Haven't had the time to delve into it because I want to give it all my attention lol I have not heard the podcast. Any info on that? I actually met Stevie, Chris and Tommy the day after the world famous Carnegie Hall show. He was so friendly and genuine.I miss my hero!
@MM-yq7lj6 жыл бұрын
David DiBona oh I am so jealous you got to meet him! I saw him 5x. Seeing him changed my life forever! I think I shook for a week straight cause he moved me that much! I just met tommy and chris a few months back in austin. I was at waterloo records where they were signing the carnegie hall album. Nobody was there and tommy sat and spoke with me for about 45 minutes. He shared some beautiful and personal stories of stevie. Tommy still chokes up til this day talking about him.. love the fact that all of us stevie fans share the same feelings towards him!! If you go to four years in pictures facebook page, you will find the podcast towards the bottom. She talks about how she and stevie met and their journey up until his death. It is just so beautiful. However, i am not very fond of jimmie after listening to that. He went into their dallas home right after he passed and took everything. All she had left were boxes of photos. He even took the 10 speed bike janna bought for stevie.
@daviddibona74886 жыл бұрын
M Medina I know that same feeling! SRV changed my life for sure. Out of body experiences many times! The first time I saw Life Without You it was performed as an instrumental. It became my personal favorite of any song ever live. The transformation of that song, to me, is the perfect example of how Stevie's life changed and how Stevie changed himself.I feel awful how Janna was treated as she was the catalyst for Stevie getting healthy.
@MM-yq7lj6 жыл бұрын
David DiBona that is my favorite song too! Lol The first time i saw him do life without you was incredible. The whole audience was standing in awe. He had the lights turned down with a native american headset on and was sober. I was standing 30 feet in front of him. Yeah, Janna was not treated fairly. Janna loved martha though. Janna has never made a big deal about stevie's possessions cause she said it was never about the $. She and stevie did not look at $ like that. They loved each other and that is all that mattered. She said stevie loved taking selfies with the polaroid. Lol

What a showman Stevie truly was! He was just too good,... to stay in this world where so much evil exists!!! His goodness goes much deeper and far beyond this earthly world we've been born into..., where we were, are, and will be, blessed through the musical genius of Stevie Ray Vaughan! Now Stevie plays in Heaven for the Most High God and Creator of all things where evil does not exist! And there he lives eternally and shall never die! I'm truly grateful for so many hours of Stevie's life being perserved on audio and video by those who had the insight and foresight to record and film Stevie Ray, especially his very early years and I'm so thankful they are made available to us through the internet. They are priceless jewels for many of us alive today and I for one will be teaching my children and grandchildren about a man named Stevie Ray Vaughan who used to play and sing the blues!

Man, he was smokin hot that night! I've seen many of their live performances however this one showcases some really special licks, bends, phrases and fret gymnastics. He's playing so sweet on every single song in the set. I've not heard acrobatics such as these at any other show. He got sober in '86 so perhaps this is a testament to clean living, or maybe peaking prior to bottoming out. Vocals are exceptional too! Just fantastic!
@tonyevans99994 жыл бұрын
He wasn't clean at this point, some of these Australian performances make up some of the Live Alive album and sure enough bits of this show remind me of parts off that record
@bensblues3 жыл бұрын
As good as it is that he got clean, he was very fucked up at this point and his playing was the most astronomical and unique ever. Theres a show from vancouver 86 on youtube, if you listen to that you'll hear lots of crazy improvisation he never did again, but hes completely wasted and mucks up all the lyrics.

So amazing to see both SRV shows I attended all those years ago here on KZbin in full. Great audio quality on this one too - much superior to the Opera House video from Nov '84 but I remember at the show the Opera House acoustics weren't ideal for an amplified band. Many thanks to the original shooters of both shows and the uploaders here and letting me relive two great shows from my youth. The double bill with the T-birds was the icing on the cake for this gig - a shame there's not video of their set but at least we have Kim and Jimmie's appearances in the SRV set. Great memories. During the '86 visit to NZ and Australia he met and started an acquaintance with the young Janna Lapidus who would later become his fiancée.
@JeanVaughan-StaleyАй бұрын
When Janna met Stevie, she acknowledged she saw the cocaine and whiskey backstage, but he continued to use substances for another 7 months until he collapsed and made the decision to stop. She enjoyed their excursions together and the lifestyle he provided, but as time passed she shifted her focus off of him and onto her career. She had been modeling in Dallas, but left to share an apartment in NY with other models, until Stevie leased one for her. “Home base” was still Dallas for Stevie, where he got his main sobriety support from daily meetings at the Aquarius Chapter of AA. Dallas Sound Lab recording studio which he frequently used, was located nearby. It’s been well-documented he was uncomfortable being alone, and in a 1990 interview in the Dallas Morning News, he stated “I’m not well”. He admitted it was a daily struggle to stay clean and an author noted he carried a high risk for relapse. More than ever he needed a companion who would be available when he needed one, but Janna made herself less available and was content leaving him to his own devices. She stated he had to learn to not use substances to numb any pain he was feeling, and that it was “Ok to sit in a funk”. However, “sitting in a funk” made him vulnerable to relapse. She acknowledged they had fights and their relationship had it’s “ups and downs”. His prior marriage legally ended in June 1988 and by her own admission, Stevie asked her “many times” to marry him. She relied heavily on his financial assistance and knew it could be terminated, if she continued to delay his proposals. When she finally agreed, she then blamed her refusal to set a wedding date on their busy schedules. But by all accounts, Stevie would have eagerly accommodated. As a courtesy, Stevie asked her father for her hand in marriage, but he first had to persuade Janna. He had the apartment lease prepaid through the end of 1990. Pursuant to Texas law, Martha and Jimmie inherited Stevie’s estate in equal parts. Although his family extended the lease for another year after he passed, Janna filed unsuccessful lawsuits to collect more assets from his estate. Since Stevie’s death, she has tried to take credit for his sobriety and seek acclaim for her association with him. Without a doubt, Stevie was clearly committed to her. Problem is, she was more devoted to her career than she was to him.
