From Stevie and Double Trouble's second and final performance at Austin City Limits, in 1989. Stevie was clean, sober and absolutely on top of his game playing before his fellow Texans. Highly recommend Riviera Paradise from this show, a song he wrote and considered his masterpiece. Once you see him play it, you'll have witnessed the full range of his genius. Thanks for getting back to Stevie. So much to learn about this special soul.

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.

This is a cover of a Buddy Guy song from 1967. Someone mentioned below that it's reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix's cover of Earl King's "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll)." Of course, the riff goes all the way back to Louis Jordan's "Let The Good Times Roll" from 1946. So the line really goes from Jordan to King to Hendrix to Guy and ultimately to Vaughan on this riff.

Between watching reaction videos and listening on my own, I've probably heard or watched this performance hundreds of times. Back in the day I somehow copied this to cassette tape or CD so I could play it in the car. To this day, when Stevie Lay's in to the solo in this song, I get a little emotional. Man, I miss that guy. Just so good, so perfect. "Couldn't Stand the Weather" is another smokin tune from this broadcast of Austin City Limits.

Yes this was on one of his albums…this concert was one of his best! This was in 1989. Watch the version of Voodoo Child at this concert, it is off the charts. His version of Stevie Wonders Superstition is really good as well. Tightrope, Leave my Little girl alone, many of his hits. As you said he never disappoints. SRV imho is the GOAT on guitar!

This is a very short cut off his first and phenomenal album. I remember I bought it shortly after it came out and I ended up seeing him three times before he died. But this song always got to me for some reason. I'm a musician and I often expose people that say they can't play anything at all to Mary Had a Little Lamb on the piano or the guitar. We all know it from childhood. But of course Stevie takes it and runs with it and it's a real delight. Check out the studio cut sometime. As I recall it's really short like maybe 2 minutes or so.

SRV. One of the best of all times. So many to check out from him. He did a concert in 1985 and no one liked him because they did not like his style. But David Bowie was in the audience and he asked him to play on one of his songs. After he did that, and peole realized it was Stevie, he blew up and went on his own. You need to check out Texas Flood and Voodo Child.
@harrietmiller3982

The circumstance Michael is referring to in 1985 saying they didn't like his style is from the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and took place in 1982 (that played in 1985 also) and they got some boos initially because they had been booked toward the end of the all acoustic night! So the audience was on one track all night and they weren't expecting to have their faces peeled back by the loud, passionate, did I mention loud(?) force of nature that took the stage. David Bowie indeed loved what he heard and the rest is history

AWESOME job my guys! Even though the nursery rhyme was written by whoever lol, the musical interpretation was done by Buddy Guy. He was Stevie's closest friend his entire career and it's that reason why it was included on Stevie's debut album. Out of sheer respect, admiration and love for his friend, not to mention, played at every one of his gigs. I was with them both at Alpine the night he died and was standing across from Buddy and Eric Clapton as he played it. Eric couldn't stop shaking his head in disbelief, while Buddy just smiled. Someday we can get together, raise a glass of bourbon and I'll bring my pics from that night...... be safe, be cool and Happy New Year guys!

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy performed alot together and were close, on August 27,1990 when Stevie Ray was killed after performing a show at The Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy Wisconsin Buddy Guy was one of the guys who performed with Stevie Ray along with Eric Clapton, Robert Clay and Stevie Ray's older brother Jimmie Vaughan. Mary Had A Little Lamb was written by Buddy Guy in1968 and released it July 26,1968 Buddy Guy released it. Eric Clapton said he was at a club called The Marquee Club in 1965 and watched Buddy Guy play his guitar above his head, with his teeth and picked his guitar which you see Stevie Ray did alot. My husband and I went to see Buddy Guy about 4 years ago and he was amazing, he took one of the drummers sticks and started playing his guitar and he was sweating so he got a towel wiped his face and started playing his guitar with the towel and that man is old 😂

The studio version is my favorite Stevie song, from his first album Texas Flood, no organ player in the Band at that time, also, did you know, before Stevie went solo, he played with David Bowie, and made the hits LET'S DANCE & CHINA GIRL.dig, I did not know that was SRV on the Bowie stuff, nobody had heard of him yet, I heard PRIDE AND JOY on the radio and the rest is history, also, this song is in the movie Dusk Till Dawn during the bar scene, love the Band in that movie, The Tarantulas.
