discusses Ahmed Johnson (aka Tony Norris, Big T in WCW) and what happened during his tenure in WWF (WWE at the time). Ahmed Johnson was in line for a massive push. west Coast I've been watching wrestling since the mid-70s, particularly Mid-South. Back around that time and during WCW era, there were many issues on racism. I remember wrestlers like Hacksaw Butch Reed and Ron Simmons filed a law suit because the professional wrestling organizations never had nor promoted African-American World champions.

Laverle Dugger oh I noticed. Its a shame. There was the Rock... But hes not African. I cant remember and African American being champ. Now the got Jinder Mahal as champ. Only reason they made a brown guy champ is cuz they want in the Indian market. But notice he comes out being racist to Nakamura. Thats not Jinder, thats Vince saying all that. He was probably thrilled that he got someone thats not white to be racist. Now brown guys seem racist towards Japanese guys when really its Vince thats the racist one. Nothing gets said on tv without his approval.

Vince McMahon is a complete dick, but that being said black wrestlers never were vary popular in professional wrestling. The target audience is white, they are the ones who purchase the arena tickets, they are the ones who walk away from the TV sets when the black wrestlers come on. Black wrestlers are only in wrestling today because of political correctness and ONLY that reason.
@crazyjim9380
@crazyjim9380 7 жыл бұрын
That's some serious ignorance. There are millions of black wrestling fans and The Rock was one of the biggest stars in wrestling. It has nothing to do with political correctness. Take that BS elsewhere.
@oveidasinclair982
@oveidasinclair982 7 жыл бұрын
First off the Rock is maybe 20% tops black, second I didn't say there was now black wrestling fans, I'm saying like every other sporting event that Blacks do not by tickets and that is where wrestlers make their money, people in the seats at arenas. Now wrestling today is totally different from the 60's-90's, wrestling today is nothing but a clown show put on by one company that monopolized and wrecked the industry.

I think Stevie Ray and Booker T are probably the most level headed fellas in wrestling. I wish Stevie Ray had a little bit of a run in WWE. His singles run in WCW just seemed like management or whoever weren't trying very hard to give him a place to shine or they didn't know how to use him after they split Harlem Heat. Sure WWE also has made some terrible choices for tag teams that were split into singles guys too. But Vince likes big dudes, Stevie was the muscle in Harlem Heat, I would thing he's gonna give him something good to do in that situation. I would have liked to see Stevie vs Angle. Or maybe teamed up with Undertaker in his Badass era as another Biker, they're both from Texas and big dudes would have been cool - that's all just my opinion obviously, I just liked Stevie Ray. I like how cool and collected he in these interviews, just seems like a real chill cat to talk to.

Being embarrassed on TV was the WWE's way in the attitude era of punishing people who's ego's got out of hand. It's why Triple H spent an entire year having hog slop thrown on him after the curtain call. Concentrating on the tar and feathering means ignoring all the stuff he was (not even allegedly because he's admitted and is proud of) stuff he was doing backstage at the time. Just listen to an interview with Ahmed Johnson today. Everything is how everyone was against him and how he wanted to fight everyone because everyone was racist. Meanwhile nearly everyone he worked with that he tried to screw over are in the Hall of Fame (Harlem Heat, Ron Simmons, Godfather etc) and where is he?

Even if Stevie Ray started with, “Let me get right to the point… “ it would still take him 45 minutes to explain-minimum.

I wonder if Stevie Ray was ever approached for any reason to come to WWE whether it be a Harlem Heat Reunion or as a broadcaster.

@Rondough Howell Fuckin hated crime time. Felt like I was watching "don't be a menace to wwe's ratings while workin yo gimmick in da ring". I'd take the black panther-esqe N.O.D. over that over the top wayan's inspired gimmick shit any day. Flipping the script and making them a couple of black hillbillies probably would've worked much better.

@Rondough Howell Guess Stevie Ray was forgiven because they didn't have to invite him to induct Booker T to the Hall of Fame!

I never understood why Stevie Ray didnt get to be a big star , because i thought out of the 2 that is Booker & Stevie that Stevie would become a bigger star , he was bigger and i thought Vince would see $ and i thought they couldve brought him in with the Godfather and make him with his ladies they couldve been tag champs and their both huge guys who can work but i was wrong Booker got huge and deserved it , he was a great talent

Dude was supposed to be part of the next class of superstars in line to become champ along with hhh and mankind after shawn,sycho sid,austin, rock, but got lost somewhere in 1997, i think the race angle killed his momemtum plus his constant injuries

Stevie Ray says he has a "mind of steel". Wasn't he the one that said he was about to grab his gun and kill a wrester after a fight. Now he claims its everybody else in wrestling. He the main culprit.

Ron Simmons The Rock D'Lo Brown all say the same thing that Ahmed Johnson just started believing his own hype was hurting everybody nobody wanted to work with him. If you check out the rock on off the record with Michael Landsberg back in the day, you can take him see him take a big sigh trying to figure out how to answer what he thought about Ahmed Johnson without completely burying the guy.
