I believe that "Innervisions" can go head to head with "Songs In The Key Of Life" as Stevie Wonder's very best album!!!

Totally agree, Eric. I have both of them, and I can't choose.

I had almost given up hope that you would return to this album but I held on to it. Thinking not long ago that it would be so cool for you to go back to it and here it is. I have to admit I did have some tears, life’s been somewhat of a challenge lately, beautiful music always helps. Probably the most guitar(s) I’ve heard on a Stevie song and its so cohesive even though there’s barely keyboards on it. Love the ethereal harpish accents near the end especially. Can’t thank you enough for continuing…

In my opinion the world doesn't deserve this Genius.

That look you gave the camera, as if saying, "Are you hearing this? Did a person really do this?" is one I understand. Stevie really seems to have been born to make music. He is sharing himself in what he does, and I don't see how we could do anything but accept it gratefully.

Sublime. So beautiful and so tenderly sung, while still conveying plenty of emotion. The instrumentation is also understated but beautifully done. A stunning track from a stunning album.

Exquisitely beautiful. I frequently do cry during this song. This is a top 10 all-time favorite album for me, definitely a desert island disc.

Just stunning. Stevie is a musical genius and it’s no surprise so many progressive rock lovers are attracted to Steve’s creative and sophisticated musicality.

Absolutely sublime. This is indeed a beautiful song sung by a beautiful man. Stevie's feelings are what bring his songs to life. The music is so gentle, like a warm breeze while Stevie takes us on a profound journey of such spiritual awareness that it becomes meditative. Loved this and I love Stevie.❤

Innervisions is in my opinion Stevie Wonder's best album and "Visions" is superb in every way. I actually really like his 1972 album Music of My Mind as well, but Innervisions is much more polished and successful as a whole.

Of course the fact that he's blind adds another dimension to all the mention of visions, of "living to see", of green and brown leaves etc. I wonder, with his sound/color synesthesia, to what extent can he imagine colors. He says he can sense colors when he hears and plays music.

One of the most spine-tingling performances, IMO, is Stevie Wonder with the song Fragile (Sting). His vocals and harmonica playing are off the charts!

When you do move on to track three, Living For The City (and it must be the full length album cut, please), keep the beauty and positivity of Visions in the back of your mind. The story told in Living For The City will totally take you to the opposite side of the spectrum, in a heart wrenching, musically gut punching way. For these two tracks to follow one another on the album was a stroke of genius.

Bought this album on release, all those years ago, and was astounded by the the difference of his earlier 60s songs.......This maybe due to a contract of millions of dollars to produce an agreed amount of albums over the agreed years, giving freedom and independance to do his thing!

1972's, George Harrison's, All Things Must Pass, prepared me for my Mom and Dad's, September of that Year's Divorce. I then turned 12. 1973' Innervisions allowed me to Grieve, and to sob amidst mass Endings. Stevie's 1974's, Fulfillingness' First Finale,...this then "Heaven-Sent" Title,....brought Solace, Completion, Understanding and Acceptance.

It took you you a half a century to get to Mr. Steve Wonder who along with Smokey Robinson is Mr. Motown himself along with the founder of Motown Barry Gordon. A half of a century!!! I requested a lot of songs from him 2 years ago but you were soooo preoccupied with Genesis........and King Crimson....that you paid little attention!!! Glad you are back to the genius in music history!!!! And this album Intervision is one of his Masterpiece albums along with "Songs in The Keys of Life." Masterpieces....this track, "Vision," is one of the most beautiful songs he wrote and composed. Beautiful!!! Great reaction!

Plenty of music is merely entertainment...but songs like this are divine. As Robert Fripp once said, you need to see to your craft to find the art.

As a lover of this album, I hope that when you get to "Livin' for the City", you play the outro of this into the beginning of that song. The segues on this album are sublime.

It must, must be the full album cut of Living For The City. The radio edit made into an entirely different song in intent without the “fresh off the bus” spoken word part.

Many people, including yourself it would seem, overlook what adds extra intrigue and poignancy to these lyrics, and that's the fact that Stevie Wonder is, of course, blind. The whole InnerVisions album is a flawless masterpiece and has actually been cited by Wonder as his own personal favourite of all his own albums. It's mine, too.

This album, and the next (Fulfillingness' First Finalé) got Stevie Best Album Grammies. The next year Paul Simon got it for Still Crazy After All These Years. And he thanked Stevie for not putting out an album that year. Guess who got it the next year...

I've seen every fish-note in his Musiquarium too many times (but still not enough), but I don't know his music well enough (the Musiquarium was a bit of luck - just like Jethro Tull was - when the only band on Earth was Black Sabbath - and whatever other music I chanced on without seeking it out - for instance a Musiquarium). So I'm enjoying getting to know more of him, here. Thanks for the recommendation, whoever recommended these visions that give some sight to all us blind men. Turns out we see better with our ears than with our eyes?

I like your description of painfully beautiful. I would suggest (since you reviewed Holst) doing a review of Maurice Ravel's (my favorite classical composer) "Pavane for a Dead Princess". Music with emotion!
