Mr. C, as usual, you nailed it again! Your experience, keen sense of observation, and analytical approach to issues always astound me. There's a quote attributed to Oscar Wilde: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." If that's what it takes for Philippine tourism to grow, so be it. It's also frustrating when a business establishment tells you, "Out of stock, sir." We haven't quite mastered the fine art of service.

Hi Sir Stevie! In my own opinion, our we're in a dillema on choosing the right language for our students. Here's my example, my inaanak always approach me for their assignments, i have observed that the context is written in english when it comes to science and math, so my inaanak always ask for the explanation of every questions on his assignments. Sadly, the other subjects becomes harder for me because the instructions is in Filipino(Tagalog) na sobrang lalim ng ibang words na ginagamit. I know that our DEPED want us to enrich our own language pero sana gawin nilang simple lang para mabilis maintindihan ng bata pati ako 😅 Sana our new DEPED sec. will copy from other country na may high quality education system. As your one of your clients said that there's nothing wrong on copying naman 😅 Sadly for some reason, I'm afraid of our country's future due to our education system. We're heavily invested yet we still fall behind.

Maganda ung point niya on Service Orientation vs Hospitality. While Filipinos are hospitable while Thais are not, mas lamang sila sa service orientation and efficiency

I think what's worth mentioning like for example Baguio, the last time where there, i got a feeling that tourist are not welcome there. In SM Baguio, guards are not helpful; who do they think they are? their primary source of income is tourism and yet they are snubbish and uncooperative

I can attest to the IDEA THAT THAILAND HAVE THE BEST AMENITIES FOR TOURIST. I also agree that we should copy from the BEST.

Ive been to many places in Asia and Philippines is probably the least interesting place. Apart from the friendly people and the amazing beaches, there's nothing else. Cities are chaotic and unwalkable with limited transportation options, no or very historical centres as many historical buildings are demolished and replaced with malls, and food is subpar yet overpriced compared to Vietnamese and Thai.

Couldn’t agree more. Thailand has perfected their Tourism sector, it is the best across all ASEAN, SK and Japan. No wonder it has the biggest share in their GDP.

THailand also has cheaper food and better quality. Need to improve food quality. If you want food quality in the PHils the price goes up too hgih compared to Thailand. If you eat at eateries it's always tipid ingredients because they cater to Filipinos who are used to it but for foreing tourists it will be disappointing if you're comparing it to neighbors. However the nature in the PHils are superior but the towns are not as nice. They could make the towns of each tourist destination nicer looking with better infrastructure.

Indeed, nothing wrong with imitation as flattery , but…. Our DoT PR should produce its own footage, not recycle the sites and locales of completely different countries!! 😅 But back to the serious topic, Stevie is correct in reminding everyone NOT to conflate friendly disposition, with High-value service. Both are desirable , and they can be complementary, but they are distinct . The first is natural-born; the second generally must be learned/trained (but most critical: that second one is also the one that delivers _QUANTIFIABLE & REPEATABLE_ returns)

As for the service, the only problem Filipinos have is efficiency I guess. We shouldn't question the personal touch. It's like having your own personal assistant and that's better.

Sir, pasensiya na po, di po available ang item na ito. Regular power failure. Skin tax - separate lines to tourist destinations for Pinoys and for foreigners with different pricing. Generally more expensive accommodation. No VAT refund. Not direct flights from Europe except probably Istanbul. Noisy streets with horns honking. Sidewalks na dugyot. Dangerous for tourists to cross streets even using PED crossing. and so on.

Copy the Best, copy Thailand, then PH need to hire million s3x workers and trans. haha lol. That’s not gonna work in PH. PH need competitive pricing in its accomodation at the least, Govt should be in control, improve transport system, data signal, infrastructures in Tourist spots, so many Waterwalls, rivers & lakes in PH but so hard to get to. Look at Vietnam, Cambodia, the mainland Asean, its so cheap, so they have millions more tourists than PH.

The human civilization is more mobile nowadays and well-traveled even have the ability to speak more than one language. It's good hearing your thoughts on what's happening in the world of tourism business -- primarily around the pacific rim. We've come a looong way since the explorer Mr. Ferdinand Magellan circumvented the earth by sea -- soon after that humans started crisscrossing the globe by air and then comes the tourism industry within reach by just a few hop.
