No one... I said NO ONE has quite the same feel as Stewart. It's like Jimi Hendrix. No one can sound like him.

Exactly, the magic was in the mix, in the push and pull, the "tug of war" which created the incredible and unmatched music they made.

Stewart can hit a snare drum harder with a traditional grip than most drummers can with a match grip. It is astounding.

@@godparticle4883 Calm down, I was just making an observation, that's all.
@HeardItOnTheX11 ай бұрын
What does he do differently? He doesn't necessarily hold the stick closer to the base than any other match player, is it the angle or tuning of the snare? Or is his shoulder/forearm just that powerful? What do you reckon? I've always been fascinated by it.
@commonman31711 ай бұрын
Really don't know. Technique maybe? He also tunes his snare way up, which gives it a more loud crack I guess@@HeardItOnTheX
@IanLeoTV9 ай бұрын
@@HeardItOnTheXIt’s probably a combination of a few things, but one of them for sure is the way he holds his stick, he doesn’t use the “correct” traditional grip, instead he rests the stick between his thumb and middle finger instead of the ring finger. He has a philosophy that the thumb has more power than the fingers used in match grip, hence why he prefers the traditional grip

Wow!!!😮 I'm blown! How does he still play this well at his age?! Love his rearrangement of this song!! Thanks for posting this!

The engineer Mr. Copeland is talking about is the great Hugh Padgham who has also told this amazing story. The album version of Murder By Numbers was recorded live. It is the one and only take they ever did, and the song didn’t exist 20 minutes before it was recorded. Incredible.

Murder By Numbers is one of my favourite songs by them and when I found out how it came to be it raised it up a level or two for me.

Definitivamente Stewart Copeland é o meu baterista favorito! Diria que essa música é a melhor do álbum Synchronicity e uma pena que tenha ficado de fora na edição original da versão em vinil… e neste novo arranjo, muitos aplausos para a vocalista, hein?! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

just watching this video i feel like i finally got the rub between him and sting. he says "sting is genius" then plays this super intricate drum part that your never going to get out of anybody else and in terms of finance and publishing, it's simply not consider genius, and yet in cases with certain drummers it is, you watch just the intro and that is a lot of complex songwriting that stewart copeland is doing, in my opinion it's what makes this song interesting, and he get's no credit or compensation. i bet the drummer in black sabbath knows his pain.

And it was Stewart's band, but Sting essentially took it over. You can always tell when Stewart is playing on a Sting song (even with the amazing drummers Sting has had, like Manu or Vinnie or even Josh). I loved hearing them live in 2007-08, but I'm glad they're done. Watching them fight like hockey players with the gloves off was never fun.

Yeah Bill ward is fantastic too. Ozzy in an interview went on about how it's the rhythm section that makes the band.

If I listen passively, the song just goes. But if I pay attention to the drums, I'm confused and amazed AF! It's not in 4/4 time... maybe it's in Pi/15/16 time???? How the hell can he even keep track of it all?

I love Stewart but this song sounds stiff like it isn't very rehearsed. No doubt every musician here is top notch but I don't hear the groove. Maybe just proof of the chemistry the Police had.

I appreciate the effort, but growing up with The Police as a teenager, even buying my own Tama drumkit because Stu played Tama, there simply is not anything that can top the original versions. Also I don't like the overly-dramatic singing of the ladies.
