Thanks so much for the thorough independent review. I had concerns about the value i'd get since I'm in the US and may have limited usage since many courses require carts. The couple of areas your reviews covered that really helped were: 1) Putting a non-Stewart bag on the trolley - most other videos used as stewart bag. 2) The abundance of footage of you walking the course using the follow mode. Particularly helpful were the up hill, down hill and walking path footage. It showed how the trolley would handle those situations. Thanks again mate.

What’s it like in the winter? Do golf courses stop them during the winter in favour of push trolleys? Obviously you haven’t had the Q for the winter so a general question
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
As you say… I haven’t had the Q in the winter yet, but I can’t imagine it’s much different to my previous trolleys. I bought the hedgehog wheels many years ago as they’re supposed to be better in winter. They certainly give the trolley more grip, but at the same time I feel the aggressive steering and spikey wheels cause damage to the turf. My course doesn’t have many steep hills, so I tend to stick with the normal wheels. It works fine on them. If it struggled to get up a hill, then I’d give it a bit of a helping push! I believe some courses have a requirement for hedgehog wheels on trolleys for winter use… but mine doesn’t.

Thanks for another great review. I’ve used mine for 3 rounds now and just to add to your experience for others; 1) a couple of times I’m sure I’ve pressed the glide stop button and it’s not worked, or even once sped up and run in to me before toppling over. 2) Stewart are looking in to the app not displaying a battery percentage for me (apparently a known problem for some people) 3) being new to follow mode it does take a bit of getting used to. I have to be mindful of where I’m walking so that I give posts a wide berth, and look where playing partners are before making any sudden turns etc. 4) grass also collects at the rear of the battery and falls down to the contacts, hopefully this will not cause any damage. Overall a few little niggles in an otherwise great bit of kit!

Glad you've finally got it and are enjoying it on the whole. Thanks for the comments... I'll go back to them in the same order: 1) I know what you mean, but I've always put it down to me pressing the wrong button as the remote is on my belt when I do it. Maybe you have it in your hand though and can actually see what you're pressing? It's great when the trolley tries to mount you though 😂 2) I've heard of many people having issues with the app. I have an iPhone and iPad, and it works fine with both of mine as long as I quit the app and re-load it. Are you on Android or maybe a different version of iOS from me? I'm on the latest software on both phone / iPad. 3) Yes, I completely agree, and think I mentioned that in one of my first videos. You need to give water, bunkers etc a pretty wide line, but you'll soon figure out the limits. You also need to be mindful of crossing in front of people, as the trolley will try and mow them down. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature though... much like using the remote. 4) I haven't had much experience with this - but most of my rounds have been on dry days. Apart from a little dust, the trolley is generally clean. Having no air guns at the golf club for cleaning (COVID) is a proper pain in the backside.

I have had mine 6 weeks and have the same battery / app connection issue Matt, as I suspect many others have. It's been back to the factory once to be tuned but has dropped out again, irritating, but when it was briefly working I saw it had done 36 holes of our undulating 6500 yard course on only 50% usage - impressive. However I bought it so I'd KNOW for sure I did not have to recharge the battery between 2 or 3 rounds. Hopefully a fix arrives soon. I have to kneel down and blow the crud out of the battery connectors before I plug in but it's easily done. Other than an annoying lack of extras - e.g. no drinks holder or umbrella holder for 1,700 I'm very happy with my first electric trolley. Cheers Peter for all info.
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
@@Simon-hz3vt I wonder if it’s something to do with the revision of battery? I know there were lots of people delayed as Stewart were having difficulty getting batteries. As long as the app has been quit properly before opening, mine always works. I charge mine after 2 rounds, but know I’m safe in the knowledge that if I forget, I can still get another round out of it! Hopefully the issue is fixed soon. Disappointing that they’ve had it back to fix it and not managed though.

I found playing Moffat with my brolly in the adjustable holder the trolley very nearly toppled backwards.. brolly was not open at the time as I don’t usually travel with the brolly open on the trolley unless I am under it… and Moffat has a few very steep climbs.. I have a little issue with mine when I turn left it’s a far noisier click coming from the motor than when I turn right.. I’m going to have to phone up and get some advice from Stewart customer support team.. I really like the iPhone app for letting me know how much charge I have left… would I buy another carbon version? Certainly not because my carbon came off on a little bit of the wheel guard.. when I sent an email with a photo of the scrapped bit… they sent me a link for to buy two replacements.. 🤦♂️ £50 plus postage…
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
A brolly is going to add extra extra weight to the extremity of the trolley, so is going to cause a bit of unbalance. You can see that in the 20 seconds of my video with the umbrella up that it wants to lean on the rear stabiliser when turning etc. I think using the umbrella holder either in Follow or Remote would not be recommended due to the weighting / unbalancing of the trolley… but I also think that a big gust would probably cause the umbrella to fly out of the holder (only held in by an elastic strap) rather than tip the trolley or snap the handle. I can’t remember which way it is, but you can see in the ‘glide steering’ bit of the video that one of my motors clearly turns faster than the other. This has been the same with all my trolleys - they tend to steer slightly better in 1 direction than the other. Yes, for me the carbon is an unnecessary expense. I’m glad I just paid £100 for it. It does look nicer… but I’m sure wrapping or hydro dipping the black ones would be a much more cost effective solution if you really wanted carbon (or something else).

The handlebars snapped in free wheel mode upon the first time the battery died during my round. In my opinion, they are not made well and will continue to snap due to poor design and the materials used. I'm hoping that Steward Golf helps repair so I can move on from this unit. Interesting review. Thinking of picking one up for the summer. One concern I have though is that I suffer fairly badly with arthritis and so use a trolley in the winter, how would this trolley cope on muddy ground and tracks and would it be easy to clean? Cheers.
@petermrattray Жыл бұрын
I played yesterday, and generally play all seasons when the course is open! The trolley generally grips pretty well… but you may find a particularly muddy fairway with a reasonable slope might cause it a bit of problems. You can purchase hedgehog wheels which offer more grip in winter conditions. Cleaning - I generally find giving the trolley a blow with the airlines at the course get the majority of muck off… and then a wipe with a damp cloth when at home. Occasionally, I’ll take the wheels off and do a more thorough clean. It’s quite easy to clean as you can stand it on its rear and clean underneath it.

@@petermrattray Thanks for the response Peter. Some of the muddy tracks and woodland paths between greens and tees can sometimes clog up my current winter wheels and I was concerned about the underneath of the trolly and perhaps clogging in the small rear stabilising wheels.

The wait is a killer - I bet you’re dying to get your hands on it! Controlling when steering manually using the handle is a simple as pressing forward on the remote a couple of times (to match your approx walking speed) and then guiding the trolley around with your hand. Once done, press either STOP or Glide Stop to stop the trolley. I guess the only variable in that is where you put the handset! Do you keep it in your other hand, or stick it on the handle?!

Hi Peter, would you recommend the X10 follow over the Q follow?
@petermrattray2 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid I’ve never used an X10 follow, so I’m not in a position to give an accurate answer. I did have the X9 Follow before, which is much the same though. My reason for swapping was purely for the folding. Personally, the Q Follow fits MY needs better - easier to carry, less space when folded, 36 hole battery with app… but I still think the X Series LOOKS better. Electronics wise, both are the same I believe… so my advice would be to pick whichever one YOU prefer as they’re both great trolleys!

This is how to do it on iOS (iPhone / iPad). I can’t confirm if the Android version is the same as I don’t have anything Android. With the trolley on / battery charging… open the app. Click the 3 lines in the top left corner. Click Bluetooth Connect. It should find your battery. Choose it. From there, each time you open the app, it should show you the battery status. LOTS of people are having issues with the battery connecting, and I understand that Stewart are ‘repairing’ batteries that don’t connect. If you’re having issues, then I suggest contacting their customer support - and your battery may have to go back for an update.

Hi, Peter, I bought the Q Follow based on your very thorough reviews and LOVE it, so thank you! It worked great for a few months, but lately I have been having trouble with it in follow mode where once or twice per round it just abruptly stops after having followed me perfectly fine for 30-50 yds. It will not resume follow if I get closer, but it will respond from afar with the remote buttons. Both blue lights are on. I have contacted my distributer and they are going to send a new remote, but I am concerned that it's possibly a problem with the cart itself. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?

I’m glad you found the reviews useful, and am glad you love the trolley too! I had a similar issue with my X9 Follow… in that sometimes I’d look round and it was 200 yards behind me on the fairway. I never figured out what caused it - as it would happen 2 or 3 times in 1 round… and then not again for 5 rounds. There was no rhyme nor reason. Thankfully my Q Follow doesn’t have the same issue. I assume when you’re referring to your distributor you’re not in the UK? It sounds like they’re trying to help, and a new remote may be the solution. I guess all you can do is try and see? @@petermrattray Hi Peter Had my Q Follow a little while now following a bumpy start! Trolly arrived and read instructions an assembled and took it into the garden to test it. Noticed pretty quickly that one of the wheels would not lock into place on the drive shaft. Contacted Stewart Golf. They arranged for it to be collected and returned for them to repair. They would not entertain sending a replacement and taking this faulty one back! We agreed it would be returned before the weekend, which they nearly managed as it arrived on a Saturday! Turns out a circlip was missing. Played 5 rounds and so far so good as far as the working of the trolley and remote goes. My observations are that the red STOP button is an emergency stop button. Whilst in that mode turning is quite severe and sharp. Also starting from standstill is sharp too making the trolly sit back on its rear support wheels. I use mostly in the glide stop mode which makes using easier. My one big gripe is the battery app on my iPhone no longer connects to the battery via Bluetooth. I’ve tried removing and reinstalling the app to no avail. As StewartGolf away for the weekend I was just wondering if you have encountered this problem and if so how did you resolve it? It’s not a big deal as the battery still works fine and I charge it and the handset after each round of golf, but if you have the tech and it fails after the 2nd charge/time of access it’s a bit poor. I suspect when I contact StewartGolf on Monday they will tell me to return the battery which will once again render the trolley inoperable until a new battery arrives. I have found dealing with StewartGolf customer service is quite possibly the worst I’ve ever encountered which for a British company is difficult to accept. But hey Ho!

Very thorough review, but I have the Stewart X9 Follow Signature, nice piece of kit and I think it looks better than the Q Follow. For some reason the trolley does not stand out and look as eye catching as the X series Follow. Also the flexibility of the handle covered in your review does look a bit flimsy. The fact the rear stabiliser snapped as well is not a good sign, prefer the X series hill stabiliser as well. You also had some faulty screws and part of the handle was damaged and they sent you out a rubber grommet to stop it wearing on the handle. The plus side is the fact it is more compact and you have a handle to lift it into the carrier bag, but it is still the same weight. Stewart should make a de luxe model with controls on the handle as well as remote and built-in GPS, surprised they have not done that. I will stick with my X9 Follow, it is only a year old and see what Stewart develop in the future.
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of what you’re saying. I still think the X Series is a nicer looking trolley, however the Q has grown on me a bit. I’ve had no more issues with the trolley, so I’m hoping they were all teething issues. The stabiliser snapping seems to be an isolated incident, and I haven’t heard of anyone else having this. The wheels on the stabiliser definitely give it an edge when climbing hills over the X-Series. I did have teething issues with my X9 Follow and my F1 Lithium trolley resulting in both getting parts sent out and going back to Stewart for repair. The plus side is the service I received was very good - quick, friendly and efficient. If I was buying the trolley for looks alone, I’d be getting myself an X10 Follow… however I really like the compact design and ease of carrying of the Q. For me, this is worth sacrificing the looks a bit. Hopefully one day we can have controls on the handle. I’d say the GPS is a bit of a waste of time for me as I prefer using my Garmin Watch and Bushnell range finder. The trolley is normally behind me anyway. What I would like to see is more customisable colour options. I feel that every Q is a boring black colour. It’s be nice to be able to have it in different colours, and I’m not sure that painting it would last any time given that half of it is hinged / moving parts.

@@petermrattray regarding colours, I must admit the finish on the Chamelon Red Signature trolley I have is tremendous, but I bought the trolley second hand when it was 8 months old and it had only been used about 6 times and was immaculate, it is fitted with 36 hole battery and new spare winter wheels and carry bag and insulated cool bag and golf bag cover and it cost me £1200. @@douglasfisher4538 without a shadow of doubt, the Q Follow is easier to carry and significantly more portable. Hi Jan, To be perfectly honest, the only time that umbrella holder has been on my trolley is for that video. I’ve never actually used it - as I prefer to chuck my waterproofs on and not use an umbrella. I know that doesn’t answer the question - but better to give an honest response than make something up! 👍

Hi Peter I enjoy your reviews. I have had my Q follow for a month and a half. The only problem I have had is when playing hilly courses and walking down hilly paths I have to restrain the cart from free rolling down hill. Have you experienced this or do I need to use my warranty. I left a message with Stewart golf USA and have not been called back.
@petermrattray2 жыл бұрын
When stopping to play a shot on a hill, you have to position the trolley across the hill - otherwise it will try and run away! The motors only have so much resistance to stop it rolling. When walking, it should automatically brake to try and keep a distance between you and it… but a steep hill can be too much for it. They don’t recommend using the follow function on hilly parts - it’s primarily designed for wide open flat(ish) fairways.

I have one path like you’re talking about on my course - but it’s about 5 metres long. I usually push the cart down here, as it has a turn in it, and would end up on the tee if it was out of control! I either have to restrain the trolley and hold it back… or jog along with it. Even if I’ve pressed ‘forward’ once, it will accelerate and try and get away from me. I guess that’s just gravity pulling a heavy cart down a hill?

Peter, thanks for the great review, and glad you featured the cover, too. Stewart has a 'refurb' sale going on. $600 USD off QF (vs $800 for other models...they had to amend their website). What would be your thoughts on a refurb? The only difference is a 12 mo warranty vs 24 mo with an option to purchase an additional 12 warranty? Also, I use a Vessel stand bag which is heavier than a typical stand bag such as those by Sun Mountain or Ping. The manufacturer says the weight is 6 lbs without 14 clubs and balls, etc. Thoughts on how the QF would perform in that configuration?
@petermrattray2 жыл бұрын
I received an email about the refurb units too - but in the UK it’s up to £350 off. I personally would have no hesitation taking a refurbished unit if it came with a 12 month warranty. I’ve been using mine for over a year and a half, and the only issues I’ve had have been documented in these videos (snapped stabiliser / rusty screws / scuff where the trolley folds). Since then, it’s been trouble free motoring!! I’ll have to look back through my Garmin app to give me an idea as to how many rounds it’s actually played over the last 20 months. I replaced my bag a few months ago, but it’s with the newer model of the same one - so the weight is about the same. My father in-law was having issues with his X7 trolley when he got a new bag, as everything was too light and his steering was much sharper. When he pressed left or right, he got a much bigger turn than he was used to. He just got used to it though. I’m not sure how that works in ‘follow’ - as it may mean the trolley does a lot more zig zagging as the ‘little’ movements to keep it behind you might end up more severe with the lack of weight? I’m only speculating though, as my bag / contents fall within the recommended weight.

How do you deal with going down steep/tight paths? I usually press the forward button just once and then manually steer, however find this can be too quick and I run into playing partners! Today I experimented with glide stop which worked alright downhill as it allows some freewheeling, but then will jam on the brakes randomly. I almost need a totally freewheel option, but can’t work out how.
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean, as I have a really steep path on my course. It’s pretty short, but I’ve had that feeling of walking into the trolley when it suddenly stops when you’re running down the hill after it!! To be honest, there isn’t really an answer. The bit on my course is only about 10m long… so I just press up once and ‘run’ down the hill whilst holding the handle. I’ve tried using remote, but it’s a bit risky. The only ‘totally freewheel’ option is to unlock the wheels, but that’s not realistic.

I don’t think there’s a ‘glide follow’ mode. My only tip for this would be to try and walk in as straight line as possible. The sharper you turn, the sharper the trolley needs to turn to follow you. Once it starts zig zagging, then it’s a struggle for it to get out of that motion. I always walk along paths like an F1 driver would drive them…apexing corners to minimise the need for steering. If you look in the manual, Stewart don’t recommend you use follow on anything other than open fairway. I don’t really have the problem you describe as most of the paths I walk are quite smooth and don’t have sharp turns.

Great review, quick question. I have been using a 2nd hand x9 for a couple of months which I love, but I am in a position to upgrade to a follow. Would you say that the q is a lot better than the x as size is not an issue.
@petermrattray2 жыл бұрын
I swapped from the X9 Follow to the Q Follow purely for the size / added portability. To me, the X series looks better… but the folding adds a new dimension. I’d imagine a Q Follow v’s an X10 Follow would be a close call, as they’re effectively the same trolley with different chassis. If you don’t care about the size, the go with whichever one you think looks better… or run the X9 for a while longer and wait for something new to come out!

what happens if the battery dies? Is it hard to push? can the wheels be put in neutral to make it easy to push?

I’ve only experienced this once so far - and that was me trying to do 3 rounds on the battery as an experiment. Normally I do 2 rounds and charge - and have about 35% left over. Anyway… answer to the question! You can disengage the wheels from the motor by pressing a button on them and pulling them forward about 1/2 a cm. The trolley can then freewheel. Bear in mind you’re looking at over 30kgs for the trolley and your bag - so it’s not much fun to push! It can get you out of a scrape though. I decided to try the Plasti-dip then… and it lasted about 2 years and still looked good when I sold it… hence why I went with that on the Q. I had to do the front wheels a couple of times - and then strip back and start again as I hadn’t made a great job of it. My X9F ones were black, which was a lot more forgiving that the silver… and I didn’t put the clear gloss top coat on the black ones either - making the whole process easier. Nice one - where is doing the hydro dip? What colour are you doing the wheels? I actually considered plasti-dipping my whole trolley bright orange (except the carbon)… but I figured the amount of hinged parts and bits that would rub would make a mess of it within no time! Thank you so much for the time and effort that you have put into this series of videos. I currently have a powerkaddy robo caddy and I would dearly love to change it to something smaller that will fit into the boot of my next car. The one feature I love most about this particular brand is the follow function which I think is It's biggest selling point. Your videos have raised some serious concerns about the brand which is they appear to be using customers as a way of developing their products: the rubber bung that you received should have been fitted in the 1st place and I'm also concerned about the quality of materials used when it is flexing as much as much as it does. I have a staff bag that I want to mount it sideways which will give me access to all the pockets. I notice when you mount your bag the main front flat flaps are facing down which means you can't access them easily. I wonder if the bag is side mounted it will increase the flex on the trolley and also interfere with the balance so that it will not track very straight and will always be compensating for the imbalance on the trolley? Battery performance looks impressive even if your course is predominantly downhill. Stewart golf appear to respond promptly to your customer issues🙂
@petermrattray2 жыл бұрын
My course starts and ends in the same place - so must have equal uphill and downhill sections. I think I’ve maybe just filmed more downhill as it’s relevant to the follow function? My bag has pockets all round - front, back and sides. The least relevant pockets are at the back - 2x very small ones, which I keep my driver adjustment tool, some plasters (for blisters if my shoes rub), spare hand warmers, sun tan lotion (for the rare day it’s sunny in Scotland!), a couple of nitrile gloves (for applying sun lotion on course without getting slippy hands!) and a couple of spare golf gloves. All of these things are very rarely required, so the ‘back’ pockets are used one in five rounds - and aren’t too difficult to get in to. Sideways might affect the balance / weight distribution of the trolley, but I guess that depends on what you put in those pockets? I’m now over 1 year into ownership and haven’t had any further issues. The rubbed bung solved the scuffing problem - and is now a standard issue with any new trolleys, and the flexibility is still there but doesn’t actually cause any issues other than me being aware of it. Battery life - I had a 36 hole outing today, and had absolutely no concern about changing my battery at lunch time! I’m home now tucked up in bed… and I’d bet my battery still is sitting at +35%! The handset did 2 rounds without question too.

I do have an option to purchase a X10 Follow right now and, based on your experience, wondered whether you have any advice. regards Greg
@petermrattray3 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg… thanks for the positive comments. The decision needs to made on your personal circumstances, as underneath the chassis, they’re essentially the same trolley. I can’t comment on an X10 Follow, but I had the X9 Follow which is much the same but with previous gen electronics. I upgraded to the QF for one reason only - the size. The QF folds up to a much smaller footprint and is much easier to carry. The X9F was a large trolley to carry from garage to car, and an awkward shape to lift in and out. Although it’s equally as heavy, my back certainly appreciated the change to the QF due to it being a much more manageable package! The QF comes with a 36 hole battery as standard… but I’m sure that’s an option when you order an X10? I had 2 x 18 hole batteries for my X9F which I rotated each round… and came in handy if I ever had an outing where it was 2 rounds. The X10 has a nicer look about it, and will have the updated electronics that are in the QF. The QF has the battery app to check its percentage - however it appears lots of people are having issues with this and can’t get it to work! So really, it boils down to personal preference. Do you need a trolley that folds up smaller to fit in the car? Do you have back issues and would struggle to carry something the size and weight of a large suitcase out in front of you? Both are great trolleys and do exactly the same thing. It’s a tough call, and I probably haven’t made your decision any easier!

They need figure out a pricing strategy and a support strategy. The only reason I need to pay a lot more is because of the support I guess. I'm afraid I can't help you with the pricing structure in other countries, as I don't work for Stewart or know anything about their margins. I read some good reviews on the Foresight Forecaddy prior to ordering the Q Follow, but this was a USA only product (although I think it's now in the UK?) so I didn't really look further. I had a comment that the Q Follow was way more expensive than the Forecaddy from a guy in the US, however the opposite applied to me as the QF is made in the country I live in. There are many people from the USA / Canada have ordered a Q Follow, so I'm not sure if Stewart have an American distributor, or are sending the trolleys over direct to consumer? Either way, they're obviously paying a premium compared to me ordering in the UK. You need to get a friend in the UK to ship you one over. That way the only additional expense would be the shipping cost?

There is the Foresight Forecaddy - which also has a follow function. Not sure how good it is… but their launch monitors are awesome!!

My follow won’t stay on for more than 30 feet. I have to restart it at least 5 times per hole. What a waist of money. Should have just have bought the remote and saved $1200

Sounds faulty… get it swapped out / repaired under warranty. Assume you’re in the states since your staying dollars… but you must still get a warranty? Been using mine for over a year now with the only fault being the snapped rear stabiliser that happened within a couple of weeks.

If I heard you correctly, this is you fourth Stewart cart in 12 years. Are you that much of a gear (kit) junky or do these carts not last? You reported problems as did a number of your followers. This latest cart in particular sounds finicky and fragile.

Within the first minute or two of this video I explain I’ve had 3 previous Stewart carts and have changed them despite there being nothing wrong with them - and that I like buying new toys. I just bought ordered a new Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods Pro on Friday despite owning all the previous latest models of each. That’s the sort of person I am - I like having the newest model!! I’m considering doing a new video as I’ve been running this cart for a year and a half now and about 100 rounds. Apart from the rear stabiliser breaking off within a few rounds, I haven’t had any further serious issues over this time.
