Wait he really did interview Ang Lee? From his autobiography (How I escaped...), there is further references to this routine. What isn't immediately clear, was that Stuart Lee was a comics aficionado, and totally obsessed with Hulk... and he really did interview Ang Lee! The comic book connection extends further, with Lee being used as a cameo in a Hulk comic (google issue 106). I like Lee's humour. It captures the energy and spirit of exploring and subverting 'what is meant to be funny' through razor sharp observations.

To be fair you'd have to be British to understand the "tooth hurty" joke in the context Lee uses it here. It's such an old cliche'd joke, using it makes the joke on Stewart Lee, it has nothing to do with anyone's pronunciation. Stewart Lee saying "I don't even know where Taiwan is" is him being intentionally obtuse or ignorant, again the target of the humour is himself not Ang Lee, the Taiwanese director is just used as a comedy prop in this joke.
