It was a bit too obvious a joke for Stewart Lee, though. It wasn't as funny compared to other stuff he's done where it's more surreal and abstract. He was a bit too close to the mainstream comedy he was trying to make fun of for it to work.

I watched “content provider” at Buxton Opera house . Anyone who’s seen the full show will know stu does a bit about Gary lineker . The exchange between him and Imaginary Gary eats into some of Stewart lees material . Stewart lee uses that premis for a few callbacks later in the show . Saying the exchange between him and lineker over ran After the show I purchased the book Content provider ( highly recommend ) . I was along side a friend . When we spoke to him ,we spoke about FKA TWIGS . To paraphrase what Stewart lee said “ what has happen is someone will shoutout (fka Twigs is female) and I do this big bit on gender constructs . But I’m not sure I’d of had time to go into that tonight .” I reacted as a under 40s idiot would . It was halfway through my journey home it hit me he was doing a call back to the lineker bit during conversation . Genius .

"On a good night, people would call out to tell me that FKA Twigs was a woman, and then I would accuse them of gender fascism and say they were worse than Hitler. But it didn't always happen, and it didn't happen here. That is the beauty of live performance: great moments are lost for ever, as they should be."
@JohnPreston8885 ай бұрын
I have always wondered about the silence regarding "he" (FKA Twigs) especially because of Stewart's strong position on the idea that he knows all about them. I still wonder about "Muchya" [sic] being in "The Sugar Cubes". In that recording, nobody took Stewart to task. But yeah, the possibility of wrong-footing the audience does make for great variety. (And even better that he refers to being corrected as "On a good night [...[" Brilliant.
