We're honored to present another live-performance edition of Steyn's Song of the Week. starring a bona fide rock legend going all the way back to his days with The Guess Who and "American Woman" - Randy Bachman.
Since this feature was launched many years ago, we've focused mostly on standard songs from the first half of the twentieth century. So Mark was excited to hear from Randy about what makes a landmark guitar-driven classic rock global blockbuster - only to find that Randy's trying to pitch it to Michael Bublé.
"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", music and lyrics by Randy Bachman
Randy Bachman
with The Randy Bachman Band:
Tal Bachman, guitar;
Mick Dalla-Vee, bass guitar;
Brent Knudsen, guitar;
Marc LaFrance, drums.
Randy and Tal Bachman will be appearing on this year's Mark Steyn Christmas Show. See SteynOnline.com for more details.
Steyn's Song of the Week acknowledges the support of members of The Mark Steyn Club. For more on the club, please go to www.steynonlin...

What a treasure Canada has! I love that song. It's woven into my soul. I was a little concerned when he sang it to Mark but when he sang it to the crowd it was great. Some songs have to be shouted which can feel awkward when it's just two people.

Back in the mid-eighties i saw BTO play out on a terrace in Gastown...was young yet knew all the hits...got a best of CD at my mountain hideout...gonna have a listen next time, meditate on the story Randy told, then strap on my Tokai Les Paul Reborn and play along... that song is so great for me... didn't realise it was such a worldwide hit ( i believe he shoulda said 'big hazel eyes', but too many syllables...Brown eyes are to die for, eh?!....)

Great vid Mark... Saw Randy in a Gibson video (spliced several musicians into a marketing piece playing a short bit with a Gibson product) and he was playing into a Tweed Epiphone EP-SC210 amp... now I can't find it anywhere. It's from the early 90s and I have one in 'as new' condition (really) I'm selling... a pic of him using it would be perfect for the ad... great story about the song btw... (I hear they did the same thing with American Woman... messing around at a soundcheck)! Randy is such a great and humble guy... talking about the old days and doesn't mention the first big year the Guess Who had they actually sold more records than a fairly big group from the UK... yes they outsold the Beatles that year!

Well, I listen to classic rock (John Boy and Billy and 99.7) here in Charlotte, NC and they frequently have this song in the play list. If you don’t know of John Boy and Billy, you should check them out...they are hilarious and also conservative(apparently).
