I agree... The Archon is something special. Over 3k round without a single failure to feed or fire. Most natural poining gun I have ever owned. Very fast ,flat shooting and one of the most accurate guns. For fun I shot it in my bullseye league with very good results. It surprised everyone on the line.Just A lot of fun to shoot.... Can't compare price. Archon is a tiny company that has very limited production just a few thousand a year. Both good choice. Good review, Thanks

I own a Walther PPQ M2 Navy, Steyr M9-A1, and a CZ-P10c and all are fantastic! I have never shot an Archon Type B but I have heard great things. I always go back and forth with which of my Wonder 9's I like the most. Currently it is the CZ P10c and very recently it was my Steyr M9-A1. I have only had a few malfunctions with my PPQ which were definitely magazine related and have over 3200 rounds through it. With over 1250 rounds through my P10c I have only had one single malfunction and zero malfunctions with my Steyr which has only approximately 850 rounds through it so far. All three are extremely accurate, ergonomic, and reliable. I was hoping to buy a Laugo Arms Alien but with a price tag of $3500 and up I may have to look more at getting an Archon Type B.

Ohhhhhh tough choice you’ve presented there! I love both guns, but have a Steyr already, and it is *still* a fantastic choice for its price point and dependability. However I have been following the handgun with different names, such as the Strike One (in the country of it’s origin, Russia), Arsenal’s version: the Stryk B, and now the Archon Type B. Great video as always KS!

Thanks for the excellent unbiased review as always. I think the non tilting barrel would certainly contribute to the flat shooting and accuracy on the Archon. That Beaver tail is incredible and part of what attracted me to the Steyr. But Archon seems to take the cake with innovation. Only hard pill for me is the price. Cannot see myself paying that much for it. I would certainly consider it around 5 bills. Perhaps some time in the future 😀

I ordered the Archon with Rain6's initial buy when it was announced which was $779 and I did not hesitate since I wanted a Stryke One and missed out on getting one when they were going for a lot less than they are selling for now. After waiting 2 years to get it. I love the way it shoots. If you are someone that likes to change things on a gun this has everything you need. If you don't but would like to get one that shoots really good out of the box this is for you. I'm very happy with this decision and would buy a second one in a heartbeat. I'd love to see a compact version. There will be with with a shorter frame kind of like a grip chop. Check out Standardcousa's IG page.

Of all the guns mentioned, the Steyr is the only one available in multiple sizes and calibers. I’m not interested in 9mm or the idealization of the Glock 19 concept.

The webbing that pushes on your tendon works the same way a doctor checks your reflexes and you move your leg when your knee is tapped. It causes you to squeeze the gun tighter when it recoil into your hand.

Good video! I have owned both the arsenal strike one and the original M40. Both are well made and have less muzzle flip than their glock counter parts. Both should be great combat/competition guns if it weren’t for one thing......speed reloads! The magwell opening on the steyr is worst on any polymer handgun that I have ever shot. The archon should have a excellent magwell if its anything like the strike one, but again they put huge base plates on the magazines making speed loads unnecessarily cumbersome. Other than that these are two are the best shooting polymer guns I have ever owned.

I 100% agree about the lack of magwell in the Steyr. It’s one of my biggest complaints with it. The Archon is significantly better. I haven’t had an issue with the baseplates. Thank you and cheers!

I love watching these “If I could only have one” series. Like you said I don’t think you could go wrong with either of these firearms, But I probably would have chosen the Archon the same as you did just based on aesthetics alone. I just can’t get passed the looks of the Steyr something about it I just don’t like, and I’m sure if 1776 or Bust reads my comment I will catch some flak lol. Anyway you really shot great groupings with both pistols and I hope someday I will get my hands on the Archon Type B to take for a test drive.

On the Type B, the trigger itself is the "safety dingus", that's why it tilts before being pushed back. So the sponginess is really no different than just the normal trigger tab take up.

The trapezoid sights are odd, but once you figure it out it’s hard to go back. I shoot that gun better than any other I own except my CZ P10F. However if I could have only one it would be Steyr

I've yet to shoot the Archon but it has always peaked my interest it is rather unique for sure. I have shot the Steyr and have to say that it is probably one of my favorite firearms to date only because of the sight picture and the trigger. The ergos are slightly weird at first but a couple hundred rounds and it is simply amazing. I did get an opportunity to check out the new texture at a show not too long ago and have to say that it is right there with the M&P 2.0 texture but with the customization capability of a VP9, which I welcome with open arms. I love the VP9 for its different grip panel and backstrap options it allows for endless combinations that allows the user to really dial in their grip profile. So the new Steyr being similarly designed is wonderful. On the VP9 i run the medium backstrap with the large right palm swell and the small on the left it fits my hand amazing and the New Steyr although I didn't get to play around with the panels is offering a similar package feature. The new model does have a flared magwell and some different texturing on the frame as an indexing point for thumb of support hand and trigger finger that is rather unique and I felt the trigger has been improved upon as well so me and my budget are saying Steyr that is not to say that an Archon won't eventually make its way into the stable but my financial portfolio needs to improve some first.

That ridged up under the beaver tail is probably to reinforce the polymer that makes up the beaver tail. Looks like without it, it would be too thin and archon would be having to replace frames.

Archon Type B is a Russian Strizh. It is branded off Italy so it can make it to the US market, the Russian guns are not allowed to be imported, yet. A nice shooter, more expensive than Steyer M9A1/2. The price difference makes it a decision for many which to buy.

Been shooting both the Archon type B and Steyr M9 and L9 together alot lately. They are great. I can still perform better with Steyr doing timed drills cuz of the awesome sights on it. The recoil/muzzle rise/muzzle dip feel the exact same to me. Gonna stick with Steyr. And have pre ordered the M9 A2. But the Archon is right there with it. Cant go wrong with any of them.

I own the larger Steyr L9 A1 and it is among my favorite pistols I've ever owned which have been many... I love the the overall feel and angle of the grip along with the trapezoid sights, although many people do not... I don't care for the reset which you can barely hear or feel... If the trigger reset had more of a Glock like feel it would go a long way to improving how many people feel about this pistol... Price-wise the Archon seems to be at least $300 more than the Steyer which does not sit well in my book.

But how can you see if the gun is cocked on the Stryk b? If you fire or cock the gun there is absolutely no difference on the trigger and also not external whise. On a Glock, the trigger stays back after firing and goes forward if you cock the gun. Also you can feel if a bullet is in the chamber, because the extractor goes a bit out. On the Stryk b, there are 0 visible details if the gun is cocked and if there is a bullet in the chamber. You can't see if the trigger is cocked, it goes all the time forward and does not stay back like on a Glock. From a safety point, I don't think the gun is really safe. At least the trigger should stay back like on a Glock, after firing. Have you recognized that?

Never shot the archon and so own a Steyr c9. Having put close to 6k rounds through it with only one light primer strike. Price is incredible and it super comfortable. Yes the lack of reset isn’t there but the trigger is smooth as glass. I am curious about the archons trigger being metal generating to much heat into your finger. Unfortunately looks ain’t everyone and the price tag is just a deal breaker regardless if it comes with two extra. I can only contest from what I know about the Steyr. It’s crazy reliable and just a gun you can shoot all day wanting more

I personally shoot the Steyr more accurately than the Archon. The Archon is nice but the Steyr M9A1 fits my polar bear claws very well. I am a little nervous about the Steyr A2 MF though. Looks like they changed the grip a bit.

My potential issue with the Archon B is it keeping its value. Steyer is a more established name and its known go keep its value. Not many shops carry the Archon and it had a very small but loyal following. I think I would have a hard time trading or selling it if I did not like it over time.

They steyr is by far the least known in the polymer pistol world. The steyrs are dirt cheap, especially on the used market their value is weak at best.

Steyr M9A1 for me, proven reliability with the track record to back it up. I'll pass on the overpriced one that might not be nearly as reliable.

I agree that the Archon needs more time on the market to gauge reliability. I do seem to remember Steyr going through some reliability issues as well. That said, the Gen 4 Steyr is awesome. Thank you and cheers!

The steyr had many issues through 2 generations, I had one of them, unfortunately. Watch Mac's channel. The Archon went further through the gauntlet than ANY other gun. Dont rule the Archon out. Its loaded from the factory. No xtra $$$ customizing necessary.

Go look at reliability test for the type B it's right there with glock. There are plenty of guys putting it through its paces. Military arms channel does the gauntlet. That will pretty much take away any concern you may have.

A better comparison woyud have involved the Steyr A2 (not yet out). The Archon is a heavy gun compared to a Glock 19 and the temperature of the trigger prevents long term usage---two very negatives IMO.

Glocks are definitely light. Most cant touch them in that regard. As for the trigger, it does not get hot at all. I’ve put a lot of rounds through this very quickly and never had an issue. Of all the reviews of the gun I’ve seen and read, only one review mentioned it. Could have been a one off issue or reviewer issue.
