Great info! I just picked one up over the weekend, originally a Wn17. I got the rifle and 52 original boxes with en-block clips of German 1939 spritzer rounds for $300. It's only missing a buttplate, so on the hunt for that and maybe a bayonet. Keep up the good work!

My Bulgarian refurbished M95's bolt was unworkable at first. I sharpened the extractor tail's rib and the bolt was a little more workable . Then I ended up replacing the bolt shroud with a unnumbered one. In the end, the stiffness went away and I could somewhat baby the bolt. Pronunciation speaking, as a friendly clarification, the proper way to pronounce Budapest is "Budapesht", with the stress on the first syllable.

You can easily tell if these rifles are converted full length guns or original carbines by the front sight band or lack thereof on the carbines. The rifle length rear sight is also a telltale sign.

Just picked one up for 400 bucks. It's a 1908 production that was modified into the carbine length and rechambered to 8x56mmR. The rifle shoots beautifully, and I even got some 1938 produced ammo with the Reichsadler emblem on the boxes, enblock clips, and the ammo itself included with the rifle

I found two of these back in the 1980s, I owned a Garbage co and was driving through an alley in Brentwood Ca, and saw these in an alley, someone had made lamps out of them but the didn’t drill any holes in them, I just took one apart cleaned everything up and refinished the stock! Looks pretty nice and I’m sure it will fire nicely now!

Interestingly, some of the first actual combat use of these original M95 rifles and carbines was not with the A-H or Bulgarian armies. They were instead used by the insurgent IMRO organization that worked in the territory of today's North Macedonia. These were supplied by Bulgaria. Of course, being an clandestine organization there's really no exact numbers of units but there's plenty of photos of the insurgents armed with these rifles, and these were used in combat against the Ottoman ruling forces, some 10 years prior to the Balkan wars as well as WW1.

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry it is interesting, most of the arms as one would suspect were older stuff (Russian Berdans, Turkish Martinis etc) yet the few modern Mannlichers left such an impression to the insurgents they were often mentioned in the folk songs of the time.

Fantastic old guns great for hunting and a really fun to experience that historic feeling of a big old battle gun. when you're holding them that thought always pops into your mind or question gets asked I wonder many people this thing has laid down, it's kind of creepy. I had an old mosin nagant I was once thinking that and thought meh maybe none at all probably just been in some depot for training somewhere it was pretty neat and tidy. It had been captured and refitted in Finland or Switzerland can't remember.. anyway one day I decided to strip it right down for a clean and explore so took the wood off it. The whole inside of it had the crap charred out of it it was an eighth of an inch of charcoal so it had obviously been at some stage, in a very desperate situation indeed.. being loaded and emptied until nearly glowing..which made me realise .. its definitely not none.. 😮

I picked up a Steyr 1895 Mannlicher rifle but it is unfortunately in 8x50r caliber. Rare for a 30" barreled rifle that was re-arsenaled at some time (stamp on bolt, crossed out numbers on left rear stock, matching number on right rear stock), no "S" on barrel chamber top but barrel and receiver match. Will not chamber a 8x56r round. Has unit marking on the top of the buttplate. Rifle length sight that is still measured in "strides".
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry2 жыл бұрын
I would assume pre 1930 re-arsenal considering the lack of ammo update? To my understanding that is when the cartridge change took place but it is odd to find a non re-chambered carbine. Makes me wonder at the rarity of such a combo
@johnski47092 жыл бұрын
@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry It's not a carbine though, it's a rifle with rifle sights and 30" barrel. Maybe kept as a hunting rifle in readily *at the time) 8x50r ammo after the war? 56 R 381 is the buttplate unit marking. Rear sight is still in 8x50r "strides" marking that goes to 26

I’d say not “readily” available but you can find it online, PPU makes it and I’ve found it on the SGA Ammo website pretty consistently. You want to make sure you get one that has been updated for 8x56 though, original 8x50 is extremely difficult to find if not nearly impossible (an S stamped on the top of the receiver indicates it was re-chambered)
