You can switch the bipod to the rear for more traverse angle as well. Lovely video. Brings me back to the time I carried it in the Bundeswehr. Thank you.

Yes Ray your "Guten Morgen " was absolutly on point. Best wishes from Germany.

It is not roller delayed, it is roller locked. It is short recoil operated. What the german engineers figured out, was that the rollers also reduced the bolt speed when unlocking. That was the inspiration for the development of the Cetme rifle, that would become the G3.

Great comment and thanks for that information!

Don't forget about the roller delayed version of the MG42 known as the MG45.

Incredible piece of equipment. Back in the very early 90's I was a platoon Machine Gunner for my unit. I was both an Expert M60 and M240 gunner. We got the opportunity to train with our German sister unit. They called it the MG3 and we trained and qualified for our German "Schützenschnur" medals. It was a freaking bullet hose compared to the M60. Crazy fast cyclic rate. We hooked the hot barrel out with an unfired round. The new barrel is cold.

Morning Ray! I sure missed the boat back in the 80's. Living in pretty much isolation in the desert will do that.

....NICE !!!! - shot my first in "MG" in 1980's.....the MG-34, about a year later the MG-42.....nothing really comes close once you fire one of them. Your 1974 model/MG-74 is a beauty!!!, if I remember correctly, the MG-3 is latest issue......

By the way Ray, Steyr did produce the MG42 in WW2 as well. By chance I got the MP40, STG44, K98 and MG42 all made by Steyr during WWII.

Thank You Sir and Mr. M for sharing. I am glad you touched on lubing the braided spring. Did you have the Otto NoizeBarrier Micros under the hearing protection. I will be keeping some foams handy as backup. The Otto's seem to decharge quickly under use (mine). Was there an electric vehicle arriving around the time you mentioned the bipod drawing blood. 👍🇺🇲

Hey Hesa, You are quite perceptive. Between Tony and I we have a lot of electrics and love them. My Ottos last all day without issue.

Makes me sad being born in 1993. Missed out on all the “cheap” machine guns. I bought a M10 with a Lage upper for 6500 dollars in 2016. My now wife thought I was insane. It’s almost tripled in value since then. Can’t shoot your 401K lol.

Ray these types of vids i like could you possibly do cleaning vids in machine guns.

For sure but have always avoided this kind of content because of KZbin rules. This is the first video that I have age restricted. Let me see how it does. If it only gets a few hundred views it won’t be worth the time to film and edit. 👍🏼
